Quote from: justa on May 22, 2024, 09:00:19 PMWelcome aboard, Ralph.
The forum could use some new blood - posting has been pretty slow for a while.  Maybe you could share some of your customs here on the board?  I like seeing other people's takes on characters.  That would be cool.  (In your "origin" scenario, I was the father who played with my kids.)

Yeah I feel the same way about the game itself. I'm "younger" (35), and I've gotten some folks into the game who are in their late-20s/early-30s, but can't get none of them to post/be active. I moderate an OP discord and there's a lot of activity there, but it's mostly just like 6 of us who don't like FB anymore.

I'll def post up some customs. I just wrapped up a set based off of the video game Hades, and my partner and I have Buffy (seasons 1 and 2) and Chrono Trigger sets in the works as well, so I'll post some goods up soon.

General Comic Discussion / What’s everyone reading?
Last post by Anyonecanbethebug - May 22, 2024, 08:29:15 AM
Title says it all. What are ya reading in May '24?

Currently working my way through:

Chainsaw Man - I read the first two volumes about a year ago and thought they were great, but just got caught up in life. Re-read the first volume again and it's just as awesome as I remember. Imagine if Peter Parker was possessed by a Chainsaw devil, and just really wanted to eat a nice meal and kiss a cute girl. On that note...

Pitiful Human Lizard - I've got the second trade of this superb Canadian comic, a comedic but heartfelt tale of a guy who just wants to do the right thing in his Toronto neighborhood. PHL rules and also channels those Peter Parker vibes.

(I'd love a crossover between Denji from Chainsaw Man, Spider-Man, the Pitiful Human Lizard, and Deku from MHA. Just real sweet people trying to be better than the world around them).

Space Riders - Another deep cut, with three arcs and 11 issues (I'm still waiting on that 12 issue Black Mask, you bastards!) FFO: robots, spaceships, space Latinos, space Red Sonja, great art, Jack Kirby, potty mouths.

Ultimates by Ewing, Rocafort, and Foreman - This was easily the best "Avengers" book to release post-Secret Wars. It's a shame it never got enough room to breathe and explore the outer limits of the 616 like it intended. There's a world where the Ultimates grew, maybe Ewing got his hands on Miracle Man in the post Marvel buyout, had crossovers with his own Immortal Hulk run, but the 22 issues featuring America Chavez, Black Panther, Blue Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau will nonetheless be burned in my brain for lifetimes.

JSA by Geoff Johns - Loved this book when it came out. It has been one of the biggest drags to get through as an adult. Bad dialogue, a too big cast with very little time to give to any of them, a meandering story with too many threads. Bummed on this one!

Besides those, I'm trying to stay current on Ram V's Detective Comics run and Stephen Graham Jones' Earthdivers, and always loving Ice Cream Man.

I'd love to hear from youse guys! Best!

Introductions / Hello from Chicago
Last post by Anyonecanbethebug - May 22, 2024, 07:58:19 AM
Hello all,

Name's Ralph and I'm from Chicago. I played OP as a kid with my dad and rediscovered it at the onset of pandemic with my girlfriend. I've always loved comic books and the crossover issues were always my favorite. I remember the first time I saw Marvel vs DC on the racks and even the first time I saw X-Men vs Street Fighter at the local 7-11. The fact that it was possible to do this with cards (I got swept up in MtG real young too) blew my young mind.

I've been recollecting since late '20/early '21 and I discovered this forum just by googling for tips on deck building and anything else OP related, after being received rather rudely by one of the larger Facebook groups. Eventually, I found a great FB community that welcomed my partner and I, and we eventually found out folks were making awesome customs that they'd share with their friends! We started making our own customs a short time later.

Nowadays, that's all I wanna do! I cook up and test new mechanics, come up with cards based on stuff a little off the beaten path of the Big 2, and run an online OP club where we play games. Three days a week a crew of us from all over the states meet up and jam games and shoot the shit, and I've started building a local group as well.

Anyways, that's me! Glad I could finally get an account in here, even if it took me a while to finally post.

Best,

R

Where to Buy/Trade / Re: Wanted: Beyonder character...

I wish you luck!  Ornge King Collectables has that card listed at $299 (US).  He doesn't have any available, but it shows how much people are paying.

Where to Buy/Trade / Wanted: Beyonder character car...
Last post by Tomlawson88 - March 29, 2024, 12:00:11 PM
Hi All,

I'm a UK based overpower collector and player, looking to complete my collection.  The only card I need is the Beyonder character card.  If you've got one and are willing to seek, message me to see if we can work something out.

Thanks

Special Codes / Re: BK and activators
Last post by gameplan.exe - March 28, 2024, 10:05:57 AM
Quote from: Demacus on February 23, 2019, 10:36:01 AMI have a quick question on Activators, which kind of ties to this topic.

Back when Monumental released and the "Use old hero cards as Activators" rule came into play for the first time, my friends and I were very confused by how to use Activators.

The rules of the time seemed to indicate that if you were making an attack from a battlesite, that you would actually target an opponent's character with the Activator Card itself, and not the attack you intended to use, until the Activator itself was either defended against or not, at which point you would swap the activator for the attack that you planned to use under the battlesite.

Is this accurate, or do you simply reveal the Activator Card from your hand, and swap the attack/defense from under the battlesite immediately, then play that card itself?

Under the implied rules at the time, cards like "No cards with a fighting icon can be used against (x) for remainder of battle" would effectively halt the Activator Card cause it would contain a fighting icon, thus stopping the incoming battlesite attack, even if the attack card in question didn't have a fighting icon on it.

You're technically playing both the Activator and the Special at the same time. So, the icons on the Activator are considered part of the attack, even if the attack had no icons at all (like an AX special). Also, this would mean that a failed attack would still remove the Battlesite Special from the Battlesite, so you couldn't attempt that same attack Special again, later, when you drew another Activator for it.

Having said that, some circles are now using proxy activators that use Character cards. instead, they might have an Activator Icon, or some circles use a proxy that has no icons at all
