Maverick NZ

I found one other question in regards to Maverick's NZ about the any hero. I am not sure if Death from Above could follow that...
My question in regards to NZ is if you can play an activator to follow that? Or are activators treated that same way as Any Heroes? The wording on NZ makes this a difficult scenario. Please advise.
Here is what happened:
I used Maverick's NZ to block.
I then played a Longshot activator to pull his OB.
That attack was successful which allowed me to get A-Next.
I then followed up A-Next with another attack.

but NZ doesn't block (can't be played defensively) but is played like an AL (heal special) with an optional follow up attack. 
I dont think you can follow a special with activator but...IF team x plays NG and follows with wolvie's OB tracking senses then A-next and then a follow up from someone (hopefully a nasty opd) is legit play.  I forgot you can negate NG when your opponent plays it and stop the hurt before it begins.
