BEAST CD & REAVERS BJ: Play in response to an attack?

Yes, the affect how the defender can be attacked so it's allowed to be played defensively.

If it changes how the attacker attacks, then no.

Beast is attacked by anything other than a Universe card and I respond with CD: legal?

when I found out that BJ can be played defensively, I was just about as excited as when I found out about Gambit's HN

yes, it's discarded as if it was defended by an AG-avoid

This sounds like acrobatics or neptunes armor can avoid Power Leech or an AV or FN.  True?
