Title: Four Freedoms Plaza
Post by: thetrooper27 on January 03, 2013, 11:06:29 PM
This location seems really awesome.  Is there a tournament level deckbuild?

I remember this one time I showed a friend of mine, who's a pro level Magic player, how to play OverPower.  We played a sample game or two, and he picked it right up.  Then he used FFPlaza and built a team using Thing, Namor:SubMariner, Mr. Fantastic, and I can't remember the other character.  He brutalized me with his deck.  I couldn't beat it with anything I had.  He shifted every attack and blocked for each character that had no defense, he had 8's and big swings, and it was just obnoxious.  He was always winning the venture when he ko'd my last character.  I never wrote the decklist down, but I'm sure if he built it in a flash like that, there has to be a good deck out there.  I know my decks weren't necessarily tournament level decks, but they were decent decks, using good characters and cards.  I never had any trouble beating anyone I played against.  I didn't win every time, but I was a challenge.  And I got romped by my buddy who had no prior knowledge of the game.  So if anyone has a good deck using this homebase, please share.

Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Thing, Namor: Sub-Mariner is the most common build for FFP. You want to maximize the number of 8's in the deck. Invisible Woman is there to provide defense and +2 venture.

Shifting is a huge part of the deck, so that gives you the opportunity to place Power cards without consequence. Also try to take advantage of the other Inherent ability, the one that gives +1 defense to Level 1 to 4 Power cards with lesser grids. It's not critical to use it but it helps.

Experiment with Battlesites, I've had luck with Stark Enterprises with my current build. War Machine's BR (http://overpower.ca/cards/specials/1484.png) special helps a bit with the placing of Power cards.

You won't receive +1 defense for Multipower Power card blocks.

FF Plaza was on of the Broken elements in the Monumental release, and possibly proof that no one playtested anything when they designed it.

I remember a time when a deck either had to be FF Plaza or have Marauders and X-babies on it or not be competitive. Tournies got somewhat boring during that time.

Two errata later on the FFP, and a nerfing of Marauders and X-babies and some semblance of balance was achieved.

Dead is Dead rule. Prior to that they couldn't be killed by Power cards, no matter how many you piled up on them.

So I was in the middle of replying to this thread when I heard a loud CRASH! and the power went off.  I went outside, and a car had crashed into the light pole, but there was NO ONE in the car... just a puppy in the backseat.  I waited... no one came out fom any of the neighbors houses.  It was like no one was driving the car at all!  I immediately responded to the noise, there's no way someone could have gotten far.  Then from up the street, a girl came running towards me.  Turns out, NO ONE was driving car!  She had left her car parked on the street to run into her house and get her curling iron, and apparently she didn't put the emergency break on.  The car rolled backwards down the hill.  By grace it didn't hit anyone's house!

Light pole - Avoid one attack from a black Jetta. :P

So my question:  What were the two errata on FFPlaza?

With the Four Freedoms Plaza, attacks which are shifted
This means that it is legal to defend with Power cards, Basic Universe cards, Training cards, DoubleShot cards, etc. but it is not legal to defend with Specials, Activators, etc. which do not have a "To Use" requirement.

A tournament level deck build for FFA in my mind would run the standard lineup of Thing/Mr. F/Namor SM/Invisible Wench.

Any Heroes or battlesite is a tough call.  On one hand you can sack people with DoW, but you're going to get worked by any kind of of leech/discard/draw deck. On the other hand you can play a smallish battlesite (probably a defensive one, maybe citadel with double lock out), and attempt to balance out your attack/defense actions.

For an event set; I would go with Fatal Attractions hands down.  It's really not even close in my opinion.  The no specials event will be your only chance to sack the decks mentioned above (besides DoW if they are playing a site).

It's hard to say what tier I would rate this deck.  Maybe 1.5?  The glaring weakness to draw 3s, discard 3s, leeches, Raza, and other powerful cards will always hold it back from being a tier 1 deck.

When you say Leech, do you mean Morlocks Leech or Power Leech?

Is Morlock's Leech good?

I'm sure he meant the Power Leech.

also, The Morlocks' Leech is a pretty good card. if the timing is good, it's excellent. at worst, you can get them to displace a decent card they were saving.

no, but similar...

Dazzler must discard all cards from hand with an energy icon. Opponent must discard all cards with an energy icon from hand AND placed.

Morlocks may discard up to 4 cards from hand. opponent must discard equal cards, plus one placed card of opponent's choice.
