ORIGINAL FIRST POST OF THE THREAD

Hi Guys,

I decided to try my hand at making some custom power cards.  I was going to do this 10 years ago and throw them into OpOnline but i lost contact with JCTango before I was even able to start the project.  Looking back at it, it would have taken a really long time since I didn't know as much as I know now about photo shop.  I developed a template that makes creating power cards a snap.  Took a while to make because I had to capture my own icons, ended up taking like 30 pictures of cards until I got a good picture with my phone.  Then there was the font, oy.  Couldn't find one that was free so I ended up taking a screen cap of the sample screen and using those number and letter images on the cards...lol.  Anyways, here are some samples, my aim is to create a whole Hot Comic Girl set by the end of the weekend.

Hey Guys, here are the finished power cards I promised, it took a lot out of my weekend but whatever lol...what do you guys think?  if anyone has any suggestions for a change please suggest it with an image.  Finding all these images too a really long time.  As some of you might notice, my favourite artists are Michael Turner, Ed Benes, Stanley "artgerm" lau, Kenneth Rocafort and Mark Brooks.
Edit: the quality was lowered by Photoshop because they are huge pictures but the image quality for all the cards is the same as the preview images.  I never skimp on picture quality :)

Hi Garose74, they are actually in JPEG format inside the RAR file.  You have to get a compression program like Winrar to uncompress all the pictures.

Wow, absolutely fantastic.  I might have to find somewhere to have these printed on professional card stock.

What programs did you use?  Did you do this on a PC or a Mac?

I love homemades on professional card stock.  I would go for a couple sets of power cards.  If you can find someone to print them up, I'll buy a few sets!

hi guys, i made a couple changes and i need some input.  First change the 7 intellect from Emma Frost to Sage since Sage is alot smarter that Emma Frost.  Use the Emma Frost image and replaced the scarlet witch one, didn't really like that one.  Improved the quality on the 7 strength power card.  i also lightened the 5 energy power card, thought it looked too dark.  I need some input on the power girl card since she is one of my favourite characters and i can't decided which on these images to use.

hi guys, i decided to try printing out my cards at Staples and found that my template dimensions were too small :(  It's only about 3mm on either side but it ircks me, i'm going to print again after i fix the measurements, this is what i get for using a meter stick/level...lol.  Also, the cards came out a little dark from the printer at staples so i'll have to adjust for that next time.

Who is the artist on that 6I Invisible Woman?  Is that the same artist on the 4E Power Girl?

Pretty amazing artist.  I've never heard of him though... he must have come on the scene within the last few years.

Tomorrow I'm going to fix the size on the cards. It'll take like 30 minutes to do since there are about 40 cards. Then ill post a new card pack which will include the alternate art cards..lol. decided that there's more one than image I like for some characters so I added one or two more images ...character is fixed to power type and value though...so psylocke is 6F and ballistic is 7f etc. I use mostly fighting teams so different fighting power cards work for me.

hey, chuu, these Power cards are really in great quality! I can't say I'm particularly interested in this set, but I have a singular request (your skills are just so much better than mine!)

the new PowerBalance set that's been produced has been great. One of the cool... err... revisions  8) is that a Multipower card can only be played if the character has a high enough grid in ALL of the stats.

WELL. In that set, the creator made a Marvel version of the 5M Power card, featuring Apocalypse (because of his 5+ in every stat). So then, I immediately relished the fact that Gambit has a 4+ in every stat, and then thought he should have been on a 4M Power card!!

So, what do you think? Could you make me a sa-WEET version of a 4M Power card featuring our favorite Ragin' Cajun?  8)

yeah, I don't like the monochromatic feel from 3.

Also, I like the last one, except the sun rays... those definitely seem out of place...

so i set these up for print again.  Last time i went to print they only had card stock for 11x17 sheets of paper and i had created mine for 8.5x14 so i had alot of unused space.  This time i maximized the space and created an 11x17 printing template.  If anyone wants the 6 page pdf here it is. Don't print the 7th page, it's the ad for the free program that i used to combine all the individual pdfs.  there's a good mix of everything although there are more fighting cards than the other since i play mostly fighting teams.  if anyone does print, i suggest 100 Lb card stock or higher.

For that card stock, do you still need to slip a real card behind it in the sleeves?

If you just want to have a regular card in the back I suggest thinner paper since 100 lb caedstock +  card will be too thick

I would prefer to have no card in the back and just have the print on a thick card stock, like regular OP cards.

Hi TGW, I searched a lot for a suitable Big Barda Image but could not find one that met my criteria, lol, please send me suggestions if you have any.

Also created a teamwork card template, this thing was not easy to make and it's pretty complicated to use because of all the possible icon and number combinations.  Still working out some of the kinks.  Also, not a lot of images lend themselves to team work cards since the top 30% of the image gets covered.

It's been years since I read Fathom, but I really enjoyed it, not just for Aspen's awesome figure, but the visuals were really cool.  Michael Turner was a talented guy.  I liked the guy that did some of the miniseries as well... JT Krul, or something like that... I don't think the book officially concluded though.  Maybe I'll dig it out of storage and refresh my memory.

Michael Turner is my favourite artist and today I added an awesome piece to my art collection :D. I was at the comic book store today and I found a signed comic by michael Turner, mark silvestri and Mike Choi for 50 bucks. I debated buying it for a bit but then ended up buying it. Ill never find such a good deal at a comic convention.  Ill post pictures when I get home.

I haven't really had the time to create specials and i think it would be really hard considering the image criteria i use.  Maybe this weekend i'll sit down and write up some specials (easy part) then i'll try to find some deserving images for the specials.

I've at times found the images first, then made specials that went along with the image.  Maybe that will help.

So I created some specials for Zatanna, and it took a while even though Zatanna has lots of images on the internet.  Getting images that fit for characters like Ballistic and Red Monika is going to suck...lol.

Agreed...a full AO negate would be too strong...I was meaning a DO negate in my post! 

I think you could swap the AL or the KL for the DO...or just add the DO on...either combo!

Gotta say man..everytime i see you post, I always rush to check to see what you've done!  Love what you're doing!!!

She's quite strong... the DO negate might balance her out a little.  Not to mention she's only 18 points.  With Scarlet Witch and so many others that would compliment her, you don't wanna overdo it.  I really like her, though.

I think the character card image could be something better... but that's the only cosmetic suggestion I have.

As far as the specials, I know not everyone agrees, and that's ok, but I don't think Cyclops FT should be duplicated, even for fun purposes.  I think teams being able to chuck out multiple 9's every turn could get out of hand.  Maybe you could design a new FT, or give her a big Energy attack OPD with a drawback, such as Banshee's 11 or Human Torch. 

I think Distracting Costume could be a better card, such as a BJ, or something.  I've never seen much action for that card with Mystique or Rogue, but if I'm wrong and it's a good card, tell me what I'm missing so I can slip it into decks.  I would suggest the BJ, but with the CD you have, you could think of something better for her in my opinion.

Other than those two, she seems solid.  I might up her fighting to a 4.  That would make her 20 points, still very workable into decks, and balancing out her point value for all those good cards.  I'm not an expert on design, but this is my take on it.  Also, I would double check your codes on the special cards.:)

Aggressive Fighter-Acts as a level 8F.  May be used to attack or defend.  OPD  CC
Invulnerable-Avoid 1 attack.  May not be attacked for battle.  OPD  CW
Huntress-Acts as a 6I.  If successful, opponent must discard 2 cards.  Cards may be placed or in hand.  HY
X-ray Vision-4E.  May be made against reserve.  If successful, may continue to attack reserve for game.  LZ
JSA-Avoids all attacks from a teamwork, or target must discard one placed TW.  DB
Speedy Strikes-Acts as a level 1S attack.  May make 2 attacks at +1, or 1 attack at +2.  Bonus not added to damage or venture.  DG

Chuu's Power Girl cards aren't bad, but Snare has some solid suggestions...  Personally, I wouldn't go with Huntress as a special, due to the fact that the game is about combining your favorite characters to create your team, and having specials that represent other playable characters just seems like cheating to fit a recurring teammate into things...  If you want Batman and Robin on your team, build around them...  If you want Power Girl and Huntress on your team, build around them...  It's not like Power Girl has the ability to call upon/control Huntress whenever she wants, even if Huntress is willing to help her out all the time.  A special should represent what is unique about THIS specific character, and OTHER characters really shouldn't be used to make THIS character unique...  Just my rant and two cents.  I love the mechanic of the card...  I would just give it a different name. 

I like your suggestions snare but the hard part would be finding high quality images that fit the card description. I'm a visual guy more than a text guy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you HAVE to change it.  Just saying that I've never been a fan of that concept.  There are instances, like Skeet, which make sense, as you aren't going to make a Hero Card out of Skeet, but to give Booster Gold a Blue Beetle Special that acts as an intellect attack or something just seems odd considering that if you want BG and BB together, their points allow both to easily be on the same team, even if their stats aren't ideal.  The FF don't have similar stats across the board, but they still make a solid 4 man team, especially with their FF Plaza.

My friend will be opening a print business very soon and i'm thinking about printing some power card sets.  I know Trooper was interested in a set and I have to find out if he still is.  Is there anyone out there that would like a set of my power cards?  i'm thinking each set would be about 100 cards with enough spares for decks.

Each set will be 108 cards and the cards will be distributed in the following fashion.  Any green square means that character already has more than one image per power card, red means I will definatly add another image for them, orange means I might get around to adding another image and yellow means I problably won't be adding another image for them.

Very nice, chuu. Is the card stock used for these prints similar to the actual OP cards or would you have to sleeve them with another card to use in a deck?

The price of each set if I print 20 sets will be 15 dollars each! Shipping might be 10 dollars since the stack is about 2.5 inches thick (each set is 108 cards).  Of course if you live in Toronto we could meet up somewhere.
This set is way cheaper than the set I printed out earlier this year at Staples. And those cards weren't on 12pt card stock and UV coated for better durability and look :)

Yes, this set includes all the normal power cards and Anypower 5,6,7 and 8 and the multipower 5.

I tried to get shipping costs for everyone that sent me their address yesterday but couldn't get the cost from the post office because they were closed due to the weather.  I'll try to go today.

I picked up my set at the meet up yesterday

for anyone on the fence about grabbing one, I recommend it.  the cards look great sleeved an in decks (as 2 people had them) or slipped into binders for looking

even if you don't play regularly, the cards work as just collectibles

I've printed out some sets, I have 6 left.  This time around I got a discount and can sell them for $5 less than last time.  Price per set is $10 + $9 shipping to the US and $4 to Canada.  If you buy 2 sets the price is $18 + $12 shipping to the US and $8 to Canada.  The reason I got a discount is the repeat business and because some cards in each set were a little messed up.  They were cut a little too much to the left as can be seen in the picture below.  The overall print quality is better than the first time though :D Each set will receive one mis-cut card and one normal cut.

They will be reprints as only reprint proxies are allowed at the tournament.  They can be bought separately for $2 a set.

For those wondering why it's 18 cards it's because that's how many fit on a 12 X 18 inch page.

i would say remove these because they are easy to get from Mission Control and are cheap to get for any heroes.

I like and agree with Tussin's suggestion.

tussin's is good idea and any missions & beyonder perhaps.  I want that silver sable art any mission but have never seen one.

I agree with switching out the common Any heroes for some artifacts i think it should only be:

* 6F 6A THE WITCHBLADE <IM> {VR}

I understand that some people use shadow helmet and linkstone but the percentage is very small that it doesn't merit printing them.  Also agree on reprinting the Any Missions.

Just wondering about the anypower 5-7, do people need those reprinted?  I would think they would be as common as the Any Heroes that were cut.

what about Avengers ID or Zaviers Protocol

i would consider Avenger's ID card but not Xavier protocols as there are common cards that already have this function.

i don't believe Avengers ID card has an alternate but it used enough to merit a "mass" reprint.

Proxy sets are easy to print so if people want them I can get them printed but they won't be UV coated as that is the most time consuming thing as the printer has to send it out to somewhere to get processed.  The UV coating adds extra gloss to the cards but in a sleeve it's unnoticeable.

Are there more than those 18 cards in the proxy set? I remember ordering a deck of the awesome babe cards and that had a decent amount of cards, over 40+ I believe.

the proxy set and the babe card set are different.  proxy card set is 18 cards and the babe card set is 106 cards.

Are the proxies reprints or do they have custom art?

They are just reprints, once I fix my computer that runs photoshop i'll consider making more babes cards :)

yes, i'll be printing out about 30 sets as I believe people really like the proxies and find them usefull.  I will probably be changing some cards though, please post suggestions for what I should swap in.

Babe set will be the regular 106 card set - $10 plus shipping which would be approx $10 for 1 set or $13 for 2 sets to the US.  In Canada it's $5 dollars per set.

For the Image and Marvel sets, they will be $3 per set or $5.50 if you order one of each set.  Shipping will be approx $2 to $3 for one or two sets as they will shipped in a bubble envelope.

Consider it demanded.  Adjust price accordingly.  You HAVE upped your game... Which was amazing to begin with!

I guess I can make 6 more and include them when people buy a set of the proxies.  Only issue is that these won't be UV coated (extra glossy) like all my other power cards and proxies are.

Quick question about the UV coating:  am I the only person who preferred the (matte) linen finish?  I've never had the pleasure of owning a chuu set of homemades (primarily because the other person in my playgroup is 5), but with Legion's sets It's always been my only complaint..Whenever I price the printing of homemades, I'm always looking at the 310gsm linen finish cards because I think they play better with the other sets....am I crazy?  I'm sure there is a group consensus that I missed the boat on, but id love some insight.

As for the linen cards, I was given the option but decided against it as it would have pretty much made the cost of each Babes power card set (106 cards) $25.

As far as the cards go, i think you have a "0" instead of a "3" for one of them...

Also, should the QI be OPD? 

Lastly, for the BA, is teammate defending big in the current meta?  Maybe go with 'cannot be defended with a special card' and then you cover most of the teammate defenses...Overall, for a max 7, I think she could use a big pop - I think she could afford an AQ/R/S - anything that will do a decent chunk of damage on its own...

Art selection and design work (which is probably more my area than the current meta..) 10/10.

make it AR code, 4E/F/S/I and +1 for each hit on permanent record? it synergizes with your character

hi guys, thanks for the suggestions.  Tussin, you're right, the QI card is basically Iceman's FU, i'm going to change the code on it to FU.  I had forgotten all about that card.  As for the BA, it was originally supposed to be a 3 attack but then decided against it (which i forgot to update)since that would make it an OPD.  Rapture has a level 0 BA that's not OPD which is what I wanted to replicate.  You'd be suprised how many characters can't defend themselves nowadays.  Although I am thinking of flipping it to "Can only be defended by a teammate" that way your opponent will have to burn their special defense cards on these attacks.  i'll see about adding another big attack for her.

Since Sonja has a +2 to all actions, a draw 3, a level 6, and multiple hard to block low level attacks, the character is already pretty strong, so I don't think a big attack (like an 8 or 9) is necessary. 

I have a question about the inherent ability.  Is the intent of the inherent ability that Sonja dies at the end of the battle if Berserker Strength is in play, or that she is able to survive and participate in the next battle?  If the former is correct, then I think you should change the wording to something closer to what Phoenix has.  Something like the following would work: "When KO'd, Red Sonja may continue to fight and is not discarded until the end of battle If Berserker Strength is in play."

If the latter is correct, then I think some change is needed since if Sonja was "KO'd" in the first battle, she would automatically be KO'd at the start of the next battle (which would then prevent the reserve from coming up??). 

thanks for the feedback MHC, i do think that Sonja had enough attacks.  And you're right, i'll change her inherent to be like Phoenix's as that is the effect that I was trying to copy.

I agree with MHC on the inherent - I missed it on my first pass, but I believe he's correct.

Also, I can see your point(s) on not giving the character a big attack.  She's also got an extra bit of strength that I initially overlooked in the fact that none of her specials are in her strongest attribute, meaning she brings 3 off-color attacks to a fighting deck, which is very nice.

Also, she might have one of the strongest CD's around - are Doubleshot cards very popular in the current meta?  I've never been able to get them to work for me, personally. 

ah, somebody noticed the CD :) it definately is very strong since there are very few decks that use double shots (avengers mansion and maybe X-mansion) BUT don't forget that artifact cards are also Tactic cards :)

Chuu - I too think the attack values are sufficient as as.  But I kind of like the IA the way it is, too.  It is the Phoenix IA, but it only takes affect in the one battle that Beserker Strength is in play.  If in play and hits on her qualify for KO, she plays the rest of the hand.  After venture is totaled, ROB cards go away, and dead is dead.  The Reserve moves up for the next battle.  When I saw your previous character card for her posted (with the 5 Strength), I was hoping Beserker Strength was non-OPD.  In keeping with the +2, how about "Strength increases to 7 ROB - DTR, dump dupes"  The effect could happen several times, it emphasizes the Strength aspect, and allowing a draw potentially negates the card disadvantage for using it.  It also could suck out opponent's negates, to allow other cards to hit.
She Devil seems to work as a 3 just fine.  If it was "must be defended by a Special", it would need to be an OPD.  But it can be defended by target's own Special, or a Power card.  No version of teammate avoid, no double shot (but who would), etc.
With all of the battling she does, how CAN she remain so scar-free?  It's not like she hides much.  Great cards!

Hi Justa, I think I will still change the inherent just so that there are no misunderstandings and it get has to get metaruled (LOL) I decided to decrease her strength as she only weight about 130 pounds and is only as strong as a peak level athlete her weight would be.  I understand how Wolverine and Deadpool (Mutants) would have 5 strength but not Red Sonja, that's why I had to knock it down a bit, sure doesn't explain how Captain America only has 4 strength but whatever :P  I think making Berserker Strength include a draw aspect would make it too strong. Most competitive players build their decks in such a way to minimize duplicates, and people would even play it last like the typical draw 3 cards which would also greatly disminish the probability that there will be duplicates.  I still think I should tweek she-devil with a sword, i'll at least make the icon and wording match :) As for her being scar free, divine intervention :) in the comics she made a pact with a goddess which granted her unsurpassed fighting abilities and protection from battle injuries...

Should unsurpassed be an 8?

It would explain the (lack of) scars...

ya, i was thinking about it, but she doesn't have that "edge" that puts all the others at 8 fighting.  I think the only one that doesn't have the edge i'm talking about is Bullseye...i don't think he's deserving of an 8 fighting...

Beautiful cards - Great synergy between the specials.  No inherent, and no real defense -- maybe an inherent like Domino's?  'Intellect power cards are +2 when used for defense'?

For outlaw, I feel like you're presenting an opportunity for someone to build a deck around this card, which is cool!  Since doubleshot cards are so rare, and an OPD FROB card that's going to come up once during the game...I'm not sure if I would necessarily build around that.  Maybe if I had 3 frontline heroes who each had one of those specials, then maybe it would be more economical.  I wonder if this effect would work better as part of an inherent ability or an artifact than as a OPD special, although I think then it would be too powerful?

One idea might be to make it FROG, but with the caveat that your block must equal the attack (similar to what it is for the power cards) ... that way, what you're trading is FROB-to-FROG for Power-to-Tactics, which could be considered a fair trade...Overall, I love this idea of this card - I'm actually playing around now with trying to build out some specials for some of my custom heroes that allow for an offensive and defensive move in one.  It's a strong mechanic that I think should be explored and refined, but I question the playability as it currently stands.

For teen titan - i agree with your sentiment, that you're giving up card advantage for no venture.  If you made it FROB, universe bonuses count toward venture/damage, that could be more helpful.  Look at Captain Britain's NP - that one's for basic universe cards (which, as an aside, are much easier to track on the board, instead of trying to remember 'oh yea, that intellect card is worth +2'), but it might give you a way to get what you're aiming for.

Any comments I may have on the design will have to wait - the last thing i need to try and explain at work is why this busty cartoon lady is on my screen at work - hahaha.

Outlaw OPD:  I think this card is really neat because it requires you to build a your deck around it (downside), but if you are successful in building around the card, the effect is very powerful (upside).   I have a few thoughts about it:
1/  Because DoubleShots require two different characters, does this card work for both the cases where Starfire is character number 1 and where Starfire is character number 2 (the teammate)? 
2/  I think the duration of the card should only be one battle.  In effect, this card allows you to block any hit of 8 or less and then hit your opponent with two unblockable cards with different icons.  That effect is powerful enough that it can force a concession.  I think allowing the effect to continue for multiple battles would be way too good.   Tessaw's suggestion (FROG with the caveat that your block must equal the attack) is interesting, but I don't think that is too much of a restriction to satisfy if you are already building around the special.  Also, if the answer to point 1 is `yes, the special works in both cases', then having the effect last for remainder of game would be quite good (and probably to powerful).

Teen Tital OPD:  I also think this card is fine as is.  It requires you to plan ahead and build around it, but it is quite strong if you have two or more teamworks.  (Note getting two or more teamworks in one battle is easy if you place them.)  Turning a +2/+2 into a +4/+4 and a +2/+3 into a +4/+6 can easily result in 3 attacks that are 10 or higher (power cards at 4,5,6,7,8 allow this), which is a pretty good way to ensure that your opponent is going to lose a character or concede.  Since the potential for high level attacks makes the card good for KOing your opponent's characters, I don't think there is a need to include an effect that affects Venture total as well.  In terms of card disadvantage, it is true that there is some, but the upside is pretty big. The effect of the card is pretty close to what Maverick and Professor X have.  While those cards are a form of card disadvantage, their upsides makes it worthwhile to play them. 


Edit: Also, I think this character looks great (both the art and the specials/grid).  Not overpowered, but definitely strong enough that I'd want to build a deck around it.

i couldn't give her an inherent because of the rules regarding inherents and grids since she has a 7 and a 6 in her grid.  To compliment Outlaw, i'm actually thinking of creating Red Hood Specials and Arsenal Special.  Teesaw, you're right, there should be more reasons to build a deck around doubleshots.  It'll take a month or so but I'll come up with some good synergy between the characters.  I'm thinking Red Hood - 2-7-4-5 Inherent: While "The All Knowing" is in play, universe bonuses count to venture total ;) And Arsenal - 3-6-3-4 Inherent: Arsenal is +1 to Defense if on the same team as Starfire and +1 to Attack if on the same team as Red Hood :)

Regarding the 7-6 no inherents rule, I don't really think that needs to be followed anymore.  Batman:Avenger and Parallax had it right...

I don't think I'd use Outlaw.  I never had any luck with doubleshots.
Teen Titan is IDEAL for people who like to throw a lot of teamworks in their deck.  MHC has it right:  With some careful placing it could be a powerhouse effect.  And still helps if just 1 TW.

i couldn't leave her fighting at 4 because of this I read in her wikipedia bio:

"This energy also gives her incredible superhuman strength and durability. This strength, combined with her fighting skills, allowed her to defeat the much stronger Donna Troy about two out of three times during purely hand to hand matches.[22] She later proved strong enough to fight against Wonder Woman for a short period of time and, during a fit of rage, was so strong that Donna Troy was unable to restrain her without the help of Mon-El."

I was even considering making her 7-6-6-3 but in all the comics i've read with her in them, all she's done is blast people.

Is the Image Inducer a really rare card?

I know there's a lost promo version of it, but the on you re-printed is the "regular" one.  Is it highly sought after?  I think I have more than one if anyone is in need for an upcoming tournament...Maybe I'm mistaken - I'll have to check.

To me it is, to finish the x-men set I need a-next and image inducer...lol

I think i'll be interested in a tw set, but I have a question.  the ones you posted seem to be miscut (icons too high and left on the card).  are the other ones more centered, or am I just seeing things?

Which ones are miscut? The only ones I see that are possibly miscut are the artifacts, it's hard to cut already printed cards since there isn't much leeway

Did you print and cut these yourself? Not to disrespect your hard work but it appears the corners are cut too wide. The corner cuts should be 1/8.

I'll concede that the corners are too wide, the printer cuts the cards into rectangles and I use my corner cutter to cut the corners, that's the smallest bit I have.

Personally I am glad there is a slightly easy way to see which cards are proxies. In fact, I think that your proxies should have a Chuu symbol somewhere , like  ©huu  ;)

I have thought of doing that in the past, but i didn't feel right about doing it since the work isn't really mine, the proxies are Jack's images and the Power Cards are various artists and so forth.

Of particular interest to me would be Aphrodite IX, Cyblade, Madame Mirage, Valkarie, Kiana, Requiem, and Fathom (not in any particular order).  Even Mary Jane, though that one might be tough.  Other than a very little for Cyblade, I've never seen anyone's take on these characters.  Not enough Image reader on the forum, I guess, for many of them.

That OPD is bad ass! I love the thought you put into it & it makes perfect since for the history character like you pointed out. Are you going to print these too someday?

As an attack it can be avoided or negated.  Could it shift to an EB?  If it lands but she doesn't have a kill shot in hand, the plain reading is she could do it on a turn in future hand?  They could play an AL in future to remove it?  Interesting card.  You need a "corporate sponsor" at a tourney for Friday night fun tourney like peace bridge DC 3 night.  Everyone got the free cards and it was a blast.  These are super sweet!   OP lives!

The only thing I don't like about the special Father: David Cain is that it allows Bat Girl to hit the opponent with her 12F OPD without having to pay the penalty of not being defended (attacks via battlesites might also create similar situations).  One option to correct this would be to word the special as: "Play as an attack.  If successful, this goes on to target characters permanent record.  The next attack from Bat Girl against target character cannot be defended and goes to that character's permanent record."

ya, you could shift the attack before it hits to someone else that you wouldn't mind getting assassinated. 

Also, this is a very situational card in my opinion, i think it'll be like Deadpool's Knock em' Silly, on paper it sounds good but in practice it's not that great a card.

Ya, any penalties would still take a affect, remember it has to be playable by Cassandra Cain, so if she's locked down she wouldn't be able to launch the attack.

Maybe that EG is too powerful, I did mean it to make you discard all the cards in your hand with an icon if you couldn't block the 2 energy attack.  Maybe i'll switch to 5E attack, discard all power cards.  Does that sound more balanced?

The Fathom set is great!

Not only a good representation of the character, but it's especially nice to see Michael Turner's art in use.  He was taken far too early in his career.  It's unfortunate to think of what he could have had in store that we'll never see.

Michael Turner is one of my all time favourites and some people will notice that I use his art a lot where ever I can. Ed benes is also a favourite of mine, I'm happy that he has an art school in Brazil where he passes on his skills so they won't be lost like turner's was :(
Also happy that I get to buy his and his students original art on eBay...although since more people are buying now prices are moving out of my price range...

very excited to see where you keep going, and if you get to Gamora, Hope, X-23 and Ms. marvel...I know a few of those have been done, but if you're gonna print a set, easier to be in one place!

The Angelus' inherent would be counteraacted by Vision's OPD, but if someone were to negate it, her Hits to KO would drop to the level where they should be after whatever number of battles that have happened.  Although, if you played Deadpool's OPD on her which would raise her hit to KO to 30 then it would be reset.

I'm sorry to disappoint, but after The Angelus, I will only be making for a few specials for the babes that are lacking in the specials department.  This rapid pace of card making has been stressful in the last couple weeks but i've been doing it since I want to have the set finished before I lose access to my printer who says they will getting out of business within the next  month.

I,m  a Micheal Turner fan too. i was hoping someone would make a nice Fathom set. Great job, Pat !!

What a great idea!  All OPDs seems the perfect way to represent such a high-level character, letting them do their thing while preventing them from taking over the deck.  And no gimmicks like power cards only (Galactus) or using others' grids & specials (Beyonder - how stupid!).
I'm not sold on either character card art yet.  The first version seems too peaceful for the character, but not unreasonable.  The second, while more character appropriate, looked to me at first glance to be a weird amalgam of Witchblade with Storm's hair & Rhino's horn.  The variable helmet/horns gets me every time.

The thing about the Angelus is that she jumps from Host to Host so they have some differences in their appearance. 

Steve, she loses 2 points to the hits to KO everybattle, so by the end of the fifth battle she'd be down to 10 hits to KO.  I did this to represent that she gets weaker the longer she is away from the Light.  It's the same for the Darkness, actually, his powers won't even activate if there is light.

I think roll the dice is a reasonable card.  The correct way to evaluate it is as an any-power attack.  If you roll an 11 or less, then the card is a weaker form of Starjammers' Binary.  It is only stronger if you roll a 12, but that upside is clearly offset by the potential to roll a small value (like a 2).

Ya, she would come back to life in reserve and her Hit Points to KO would be reset to 20.

A question for chuu:
Would "Photoshop For Dummies" be a good investment?  I would love to be able to do (similar to) what you have done.  I have the program.  After years of having programs thrown at me at work and having to figure them out with no training, I thought I could handle it in my retirement.  But I have gotten nowhere in learning how to use Photoshop properly, even with the tutorials.  I'd hate to waste more money if its not worth it.  Maybe I'm justa too dumb, but I'm hoping not.

Here is Carol Danvers, I started working on a Ms. Marvel and found that she has a very rich history with at least four different identities that I didn't think it fair if I didn't try to emulate at least 2.  I went through the 50 Issues of Volume 2 and gathered other data to create these cards.  I would have liked to have one with her energy absorption power but I couldn't find a good enough image that met my standards..ya, those card names aren't coincidence..lol

I guess I'll justa have to be different.  While I like the first picture, it seems more appropriate for a Special card.  The second picture focuses on her alone, so I prefer that ine as a character card.  Either way you go, its still excellent!

You are right, my initial impression was to use it as a special but because it's such a wide angle shot I couldn't without cutting out a lot of the image. I prefer it as well for the hero card.

Hi Everyone,

Here is "almost" the entire set that I've done. I'll be adding 2 Aspects and two more specials when i get home tonight.  The set has 137 cards and a print set will be 232 cards so that people have enough cards for deck building.  I've got orders already but if you haven't PM'd and you want one please let me know ASAP.  There will only be one printing of this set.

I've tried to keep the balance of the set as much as I can, I used all the Overpower card making rules that I've learned over the years so i'm hoping that my set meshes well with legacy Overpower.  The big difference between my set and the legacy sets is that I gave my characters all good cards and didn't give them any cards that would never get used...well, maybe a couple..lol.

Some comments, questions and suggestions.  I have not been paying that much attention to what was being designed, so these are coming quite late.

Red Hood: The outlaws
Zoom out on picture to get faces of other characters.  (I am assuming that those characters are part of the outlaws).

Red Sonja
Why not change the inherent to make it a bit more clear:
If KO'd when Berserker Strength is in play, then Red Sonja is not discarded until the end of the battle.

Zatanna
Why does Zatanna get both a team-wide avoid and a team-wide remove 1 hit?  It might be better if the team-wide avoid is reduced to 6 or less or if the team-wide remove is limited to one kind of card (e.g., power cards or specials).

Batgirl:
She might be stronger than Spawn: she is 17 points, has better defense (Spawn does not have a self-avoid), and she has good offensive specials.  A deck of Spawn, Batgirl, Dr. Strange, and a negate character would be really hard to beat.  Possible edits: (1) Make Grapple line a teammate only avoid (though I'm not sure this enough); (2) make grapple line a discard effect (target discards one placed card); (3) make grapple line a "move 1 attack from teammate to Batgirl, draw one card and discard duplicates".

Red Monika:
Is her inherent supposed to give her a +1 to venture total if she is the only female on the team? (No issues with this, just wondering if that was the desired effect.)

Aphrodite IX:
Does "Intellect card hit" include multipower cards?  If so, it might be better to say "Must have an intellect hit to be KO'd".  If not, is she meant to be essentially unkillable  for decks that don't run intellect attacks?

Ballistic:
Rule question: how does her inherent work with teammwork cards?  Can she follow up a teamwork card (played by opponent) by attacking the reserve?

I don't think removing the "permanent record" clause from the special is sufficient.  In my experience, the remove from current battle is the strongest part about AL cards.  Yes, removing a hit from a previous battle can be useful, but in my experience that does not come up often.

I don't have a problem with Zatanna getting an AD. However, I don't think she should have both an AD and an AL that can remove any kind of hit. This seems really strong.  I think she would be more balanced if the AL was restricted to a particular card type (or if the AD was restricted in some way).

Thanks for the suggestions MHC but I won't be making any major changes.  I've been posting updates to this set for about a month now and i'll be printing tomorrow, cards will be staying as is and if people don't like the card affects then they can errata them to meet their playing needs.

As for the specific questions about existing cards:

Red Hood - used the same image for all three characters since i wanted them to have a unified feeling.

Red Sonja - Should be self explanatory, dead is dead rule is in affect after the end of the round.

Zatanna - Max 6 character so i don't think she's too powerful. 

Batgirl - might be a little powerful, but i have some love for the character so I made her a little more power than I should have, I will consider raising her Grid somewhat.

Red Monika - yes, even if she's by herself she gets +1 to venture.

Aphrodite IX - Yes, she's a hard to kill android.

Ballistic - yes, works with teamworks.

EDIT - The AL is the same one that the Morlocks have so I don't think it's that powerful.

I noticed that I didn't print out Supersonic as was requested earlier so i'm going to add it in the proxy set.  Also, I noticed my set is has made New York City very playable (Ballistic with a negate, Velocity with her AD and Witchblade with a personal defense card).  I am considering an aspect card for it as well ;)

I'll be periodically be adding more characters to the thread only thing is that I don't know when or if ever, they will be printed.  As i've stated a couple weeks ago, my printer is leaving the business and I don't know if the new owner will print my cards since they are for the most part, copy righted and most printers shy away from that.

With my babes deck I only had room for 15 power cards , 3 Any Hero and 2 teamworks. The rest of the specials were just too good not to use :)

Glad to see you back at it, chuu!  Congrats on winning Peace Bridge 2015, BTW.

Nice take on Artemis.  Different from the one I found years ago - 1765 with IA to play Wonder Woman non-OPD specials.  While that IA is the same as your "Wonder Woman" special (ignoring all other homemade cards), but it makes it easier to use Artemis without Wonder Woman on the team.  (I would not use the "WW" special otherwise.)   Nice pics, mostly good card effects - a great job.

Let us know if you're looking for suggestions/ideas for more babes.

It was nice to put out a new characters, it's been quite a while since i've been able to sit down and work on one.  I gave Artemis 8 Fighting since she's beaten Wonder Woman in hand to hand fighting several times.  She's more aggressive, doesn't hold back like Wonder Woman does.  I kind of gave Artemis some mediocre cards because of comments I've gotten saying that all the cards that I give characters are good so it's hard to choose...lol.

Next on the list is Raven since I already have most of the images I need for her...after that i'm not sure since i've pretty much done every Comic Babe that was missing.  Maybe Gamora..

Well, you have Raven & Gamora on tap.  I don't know if Big Barda (never seen done) & Oracle (some have done this one) as single characters would be up your alley.  How far you want to go with this??  I thumbed through my collection of homemades & came up with quite a list of potential candidates for a babe set (almost 80).  I'm sure you've already considered & rejected many for not being "babe" enough or not having sufficient good art work or whatever.  And that's not counting what you've already done or any legacy characters that have specials like Voodoo, who needed a little anyways (although Crystal may be worth it). 

If you're looking for ideas, I could work up a list & message it to you in a couple of days.  Or should I just fill up a bunch of board space and post it here?

I have tried to find enough images for big barda, i usually need 10-12 images per character to come up with the hero card and 7 specials.  I wasn't able to find enough for Big Barda because it's not enough just looking hot, they gotta be in some action shots as well.  I can maybe only use one image where they are just posing...I was going to work on Vampirella, Lady Death and Tarot, but in all the good images they are just posing :(

Just post up any requests that you might have and i'll let you know if i will or won't do a set for them based on images that I find :)

Ya, it's not as easy finding images as you initially think it's going to be.  I'm in agreement with all those ladies if you can find images...from a quick look i can tell Wonder Girl, Donna Troy will ok but iffy on Jessica Drew and Betty Ross...

Based on comic vine alone, I couldn't find enough action pics of any of the characters on my list to recommend.  Obviously comic vine isn't that good of a source, because I didn't find any of the Essense pics you used, either.  I must bow to your opinion, chuu, that you've done most of the doable ones.

So I whittled my list down to 6 characters that I will suggest because I like them, and because I've rarely (if ever) seen them done before.

Now you understand my plight...lol.  Ya, it's pretty hard finding images, and my standard for images is at a whole other level :)  I spend alot of time looking for images, if don't find much that I need from google i look through comics, all the Essence images came from Red Hood and the outlaws.  I would say that for the following characters 80%-90% of the images that I used came from comics:

I always find it hard as to what specials to give a character, and I'm not very good at the "vanilla gorillas) mentioned on other threads, but here goes....
I'd love to see her get a negate, but I think that would make her too strong, so how about:

Empathic Absorption - some form of AL, remove (special or power card) hit from self (and/or) teammate.  Or possibly a CA similar to Mystique's Mistaken Identity would fit the ability as well.

Emotional Outburst - AI, similar to Scarlet Witch's Spontaneous Combustion

Pacifist Heart - NN, similar to Hulk's Savage, but only allowing NON-attack specials (attack specials may not be played)

While the pictures don't necessarily match up with any of these specials, they seem generic enough to use justa 'bout any trait you'd care to assign.
Justa shootin' from the hip, here.  If at least 1 of these ideas help, I'll feel like I accomplished something.

I definately think that giving her a negate would make her too powerful, which isn't a bad thing since all the characters in my set are overpowered, but what it does is make chossing specials to put in the deck so much harder.

Definately thinking of a heal, also thinking of a KL OR AI card.  I was also thinking of a reverse NN!! LOL...thinking KL, AI and reverse NN :)

I liked the idea of a KL, but couldn't find a way to match it with her powers.  Your way works great.
My own hang up now is that her empathic powers don't show on the card names, and her "Soul Self" is the Inter-dimensional Traveller.  Maybe mix it up to have Soul Self be the KL, and have Empathic Response be the AS, or even a DY OPD that "acts as any hit in teammates' PR".  That would give the hurt back as much as has been taken, and wouldn't be subject to icon discard specials & events.
But you are the maker, so the final choices are yours.

I've updated the Raven post.  In my research I found that her soul self is how she inflicts the most Energy type damage on opponents so left that.  Made her NN an OPD as I think it's more of a lock down than Savage is. 

Not sure I agree with OPD on the reverse NN, but I haven't play-tested it, so I bow to your decision.

The reason I thought to make the Reverse NN an OPD is because in any given game 2/3 of the specials in your hand will be attacks and 1/3 will be defense.  Reverse NN shut down attack decks while regular NN annoys defense decks...that's just my opinion.  I would love for people to play test it, but i don't see it happening....

Excellently done, chuu!  Well worthy of your "Babe" cards.  The triple conditional draws (2 World Explorers + Behind Cover) could make her a venture nightmare depending on the team.
I could never decide if F should be 7 or 6, and if I should be 5 or 6.

Beast Killer is beast!  takes out activators, MPPCs & more.  On a team w/o AO user or Bastion has already come & gone Venture 7!  NIce cards! btw thanks for a fighter at 17 that has a sweet suite of specials!

i gave her 7 fighting but would place her on the lower end of the spectrum where characters like deadpool would be on the upper part of the spectrum.  From what i've seen, she's very good at using her environment to aid in combat and has formal training from martial arts masters.  For intellect I would place her on the higher part of the intellegence spectrum for level 5 characters but still wanted her to have an inherent.  Beast Killer is an EY, New Warriors have one for Strength and Kazaar has one for energy.  But ya, it's a lethal card if it doesn't get negated..

Next up is The Magdalena (5-7-3-3) right now I'm not sure how many specials I'll be able to create based on the images that I have found.  She's only been in around 50 issues and 25% of those are cartoony or black and white...meh..might just have to go with all posed shots which I don't like doing that..

like i said previously, i could never decide myself.  but i don't see why a 2636 couldn't get an IA.  plenty of other characters with 2 6s got IAs in the legacy cards.  though 2735 is probably better for teaming with your other characters.

i'm kinda bummed on the picture availability for Magdalena, but i wouldn't want you to lower your standards justa because of a request on this end.  good luck whichever way you go.

I like the work you're doing Chuu. The art editing looks great. Most of it looks like it could have been part of the original official game. The two character cards that stick out as not fitting in, for me, would be Angelus and Voodoo. They stray from the "no black outlines" and "only XXX character is in the card image" setup.

I don't have as much play experience as most Overpower players still around, and I am not one for mechanics crunching. So I can't speak for how balanced the specials and grids are. But for the most part they fit the feel of the characters you have been designing. The aesthetics mesh with the mechanical aspect and the art well.

I mentioned this elsewhere, and I'll likely continue to suggest it to other card designers: If you are having trouble play testing these, or just want to make them more easily accessible to people, you may want to consider contacting Picks-At-Flies. He made a plugin for Overpower with LackeyCCG. You might be able to work with him to get your cards into the plugin so people can play with them online.

I'd also like to help you with art hunting for cards. Since you're currently working on the Magdalena here are some of my more noteworthy findings:

This may work if you wanted to have a special relating to the Magdalena's early relationship to the Inquisition. Patiance has begun to move away from the Church, discovering truths they are unwilling to accept.

That last one has Patience duking it out with some guys from the Inquisition. Might not want to use that if you're using the other Inquisition picture as a means of showing them on her side acting as subordinates. Two different points in the character's development.

The Magdalena may reveal a person's sins and her blood may perform miracles, including reforging the Spear of Destiny should it ever be damaged. I haven't found any pictures where either of these explicitly take place. But here are some images that note a religious connection that may be useful in expressing these kind of abstracts.

The Spear of Destiny is the same as mentioned in stories of the Spear of Longinus and the Spear of Lugn. Here is an image that touches on this, if you wanted to note that in a special somehow.

Wow! thanks for all the help Urborg! I'm glad to see that someone wants to see more babe specials :)  One thing though, I have found all my images for Magdalena, and should have already posted her cards already but i've been lazy/busy.  I'll try to get them posted tonight or tomorrow night.  Looks like alot of the images that we found are the same, so you won't be dissapointed Urborg.  Once I downloaded all the comics she's been in I was able to find alot of images...

There is some good art out there for sure. Getting all the comics is certainly the ideal way to cherry pick images for her specials though. The Magdalena is a cool character, and a concept I really like. I look forward to seeing your design for her Chuu. If you want to tell me the next character you need images for, I can get started on hunting some down for you.

Should you need suggestions, I have a few for high intellect women: the Engineer, Sage, and Doctor Light.

I just re-read Carol Danver's "Marvelous Maiden" special. If she has a MultiPower card on her that is Energy, Fighting, Strength, and Intellect icons. Do all of those count towards the special, or only the damage type selected for the MultiPower card?

The Magdalena is one of those versatile people who can deal with most situations. She can also be an amazingly powerful combatant when she brings the might of the Spear of Destiny to bear. You've done a good job expressing those aspects, as well as other facets of the character. Both in art selection and mechanics.

Her innate, dealing with Artifacts is a lovely touch of flavor, and couples nicely with the Vatican Connection special. With a sideboard you could potentially pick out situational Artifacts to aid in dealing with specific opponents and their strategies, and get them into play more easily.

I'd like to hear your thought process on the link between the flavor of Inherited Memories, the mechanical aspect, and the art. Mainly I'm wondering how these memories translate into staying in the fight longer. Is she drawing inspiration and encouragement from them to push herself beyond normal limits?

While employing The Spear from reserve makes a lot of sense character-wise, I'm not convinced I'd ever put her in reserve to use it.  With a negate AND a teammate avoid, she'd much more valuable on the front line.

So here's another character that just came up...question is, could she be on the same team as Witchblade...i don't see why not as Team X can be on the same team as Wolverine, Sabretooth or Maverick.

Ah, but Team X can only play NON opd... but that's their problem.  I'd say its fine more like original x_men & Prof X opd's.

Red Hood's "Custom .44 Calibers" mentions that it can only be blocked by power cards equaling 3. Then goes on to state that it may be blocked as a whole or in parts. Those two aspects seem to be in conflict.

The initial line makes me think it would take a rank 3 power card to block it. No other card would be valid. The second seems to suggest that you can use, for example, a 1 to block 1 damage from "Custom .44 Calibers". Would you mind clarifying your intention with this mechanic?

Pardon me if this has already been covered. There are a lot of posts in this thread and I've only been able to skim them.

Basically it can be blocked with a level 3 power card or a level 1 + level 2 power OR if you somehow have three level 1 power cards you can use them to block the attack.

Voodoo's Kherubim Hybrid (http://i.imgur.com/EFAqi3L.jpg) is missing some spaces: "powercard" in the second line and "Drawpile" in the third.

Kherubim Hybrid seems like it could be really potent when mixed with cards that allow you to manipulate the deck like the "look at top eight cards and arrange in any order" Taskmaster special, or draw three specials.

I'll make the corrections to the cards this weekend :)  Target Hero used to be the old text which was replaced eventually by Target Character, makes sense that I put the old text as I probably copy/pasted from Ghost Rider's CH.  I'll also make the fix for the Power Card and Draw Pile errors...that was just me typing out those effects :)

hi Guys, In colaboration with Urborg, I created these cards for the The Authority's The Engineer.  I didn't know much about them until Urborg suggested doing The Engineer and I gotta admit that it's a badassed book.  I highly recommend reading the comics.  Urborg also help me find some images and found out first hand how picky I am with my images :)  Can I get some thoughts on my "Technopath" Special, strong? useless?
I'm also hoping to create cards for the rest of The Authority team by the end of the month, at least the first roaster..

Technopath seems like a usable situational card.  If you can hold onto it until late in the game, you can stick your opponent with Specials for a KO'd character or unusable Power cards (hope they can't bring anybody back) or used Activators (probably not if you're using Any Character cards).  Certainly not overpowered, but not useless either.

The Authority is great, one of my favorite comics of the late '90s/early '00s.  In fact, everything Warren Ellis did for Wildstorm is fantastic.  But I hate what DC's done with those characters since then.  I've been thinking of doing up a version of Planetary for OP3, maybe a whole mini Wildstorm set based on just them and the Authority.  It's nice to see someone tackle them.  My version would probably be a lot different.  As for your Technopath Special, it's not bad.  Definitely an upgrade from the useless HW and HZ (why were there two different codes for cards that did the exact same thing?!).  I've got a different take on the same idea coming up in my DC set, but I'd probably play yours as-written.
