Title: Rarity of Sets
Post by: rucker73 on February 15, 2014, 12:55:32 PM
Just wondering if anyone out there knows how come the later sets in Overpower seem so scarce (X-Men and Image) or even why IQ is so rare compared to Monumental and JLA that came out after it.

I remember when I was collecting at the time that store would often run out of IQ.

If anyone who has insider knowledge to the games history could clear this up it would be much appretiated.

Well I know that there were just fewer boxes of the later sets, which explains Image, X-men and probably Classic as well.

What I've always been confused about is the excess of Original and Mission Control while PowerSurge is relatively rare (although not nearly as rare as other sets). I get that no one actually needs or wants MC, but it still always seemed weird to me.

Also why would IQ be more rare than Monumental?

I think the answer is the hero cards - I think it is simply a case of demand driving down supply.

Monumental had starter decks with a guarantee of 4 heroes (if anyone was even looking for those heroes), IQ I think had 1 hero in every 1.5 packs or something, and iq included "replacements" for 3 sets of the game, plus a bunch of new heroes....there was a lot to collect there.

Monumentals booster draw?  Location and event cards, and a handful of meh specials
