Title: Introducing Myself
Post by: ldorn on April 24, 2014, 02:24:32 PM
Hello, I used to play OverPower back in the day but got out after they stopped making it evenually getting rid of my cards as I could find no one to play against. Recently I got five booster packs (2 Marvel OverPower, 2 Powersugre and 1 Monumental) in a grab bag that got me thinking about the game again. I have the following questions:

1. Could we get OverPower released under a simular arangement as Marvel released the TSR Marvel Super Hero RPG? Marvel made all the rules and suplements available for free to everybody. Could the same be done for OverPower (If not all the sets at least the Marvel sets)? That would allow the creation of PDF card catalouges for each set (including Marvels and maybe Absolute Evil).

2. If not could we get PDF starters/demo decks? This would be a good way to introduce new players without having to deplete your own cards giving them to someone who possibly may not continue playing (not interested, favorite character not available, specific version of character not available, Character created after game canceled)? We could have an Avengers deck, a X-men deck, a villians deck and maybe a Justice Leauge deck.

3. This Wikipeada article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OverPower_card_sets#Unreleased_series) states that DC3 would have been titled "Universal Forces" is that wishful thinking on their part or is it true? I have for a long time wondered how could you commistion art for the specials without knowing what powers that your going to done and how you can choose powers without knowing at least the letter code for each special.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you stick around and enjoy talking overpower with this community.

1. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this. Don't we already have PDF's with all the cards and rules available on the internet? If you mean re-creating all of the expansions homemade style, I assume Marvel would not come after you unless you were trying to sell them for a profit.

2. Yes, alot of people make really high quality homemade cards. For example, there are many different sets of The Marvels expansion that people have created floating around. I assume you could also create "starter decks" to help get new players into the game at a MUCH cheaper cost than actually buying the real cards. We also use online programs such as OP Online to create decks and play eachother over the internet. That is also a good way to introduce new players to the game with no financial investment required.

3. I am not 100% sure on this. Jack would probably know where the name "Universal Forces" came from. A guess would be that maybe it was named on some of the DC3 art that leaked?

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. Basicly try to get Marvel to release OverPower as public domain like they did with the Marvel Super Hero RPG by TSR.

Maybe I missed something because I've only seen single card images as .jpg. Where would I find .pdf files of all the sets from Original Marvel OverPower to X-Men? I'd like to use them as place holders in a binder and in non-tournament settings as proxies.

There is also the future of OverPower. At some point cards may not be available and the game would have to become print and play.

You make a valid point about homemade cards but how accessible are they going to be to a new player? having a .pdf start/demo such as I have seen for other ccgs that either I could give to someone would help to get people intrested in the game. As for OP online I had it working then it stopped and I can't get it working again.

500x700 is probably what you want. They aren't PDF because nobody should release images as PDF. They are in 200 DPI png files, sRGB.
