Title: Hi everybody
Post by: Kal-el on January 26, 2011, 01:45:47 PM
I just found this message board and wanted to introduce myself.

I played Overpower from when the first set through IQ. I think the last OP item I bought new was one Starter of Monumental. Only myself and one other friend played it, and we never did any tournaments or anything, so my experience with the game was pretty isolated. OP mainly fell by the wayside as we went off to college, although we still generally played a few games every year.

Lately I've been buying cards on eBay, both trying to complete the sets I had and working on Monumental, Classic and X-men. Between that and finding places like this, I'm realizing two things. First, we were playing a lot of thing incorrectly. Second, there were a lot of great mechanics introduced later on in the game that I really want to try out.

So I just wanted to say hi to everyone here and that it's great that there is still some community for OP online. I'm hoping to learn a lot more from you guys, and hopefully try out playing online (although the fact that I run Linux is proving problematic there) with some of you.

Hi,

Fellow Linux user here, I haven't really tried OpOnline with Wine, though bamf might have had some experience. I'll be developing a web app for OpOnline so that it isn't OS dependant, but the time-line for completion is close to late August.

Welcome to the forum!

There's plenty of good information to be had here to make you a better player (thanks Onslaught!).

Also, if you're close enough to Toronto to make the journey for the upcoming events that would be great (you'd learn a lot I'm sure!).

I've never had much success with Wine, but I'll give it another try.

I'm in Wisconsin, so while Toronto isn't horribly far, it's not that close either.

Greetings fellow newbie. I'm even further from Toronto as I live in Southern California.

Yeah, I can't see you West Coasters making it out... but we are hoping to eventually have a tournament situation that might attract a solid base of players.

Our next meetup is another casual get together, so we'll see how many show up for it and judge the tournament potential.

So it looks to me like most of this community is based on 2 factions: The Toronto Guys, and the California Guys.

I propose if most of the Toronto guys make a trip down here (either to San Francisco or San Diego), we would make the trip up to Toronto the next time :-)

How does that sound?

Sounds a worthy proposal... Especially if Hot Rod is right and we can get reasonable flights out of Buffalo, and a possible group rate if we all travel together... something to look into.

I live in Redding, CA. If we can somehow get a group together here in California, either in San Francisco (which is only a 3 hour drive) or San Diego (which is substantially longer, but still very do-able) I would love to show up. I can also almost guarantee that ncannelora will show up, as well as our other brother and possibly even our friend to make four.

I'm just sayin', if we do one in Cali I have like four people accounted for right here!

PS i'm sick of the Toronto guys getting to have all the fun!  ;)

If we fly out of Buffalo (Buffalo 350ish, Pearson 600+) it'll probably be about 600-700ish total a head with 4-5 people.  Though, it depends on accommodations and if we wanted to stay for the full comics con (4 day pass is 105$, 1 day is 37$).
