Welcome to 2015 & Welcome to the most anticipated year of Overpower this Millennium.
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the game we all love. Not only that, but we are coming off of a breakout year that finally brought together many of the small but dedicated playing groups from all over the central and eastern parts of the United States and Canada. Overpower tournaments again have that feel that many of us used to know and love. 2014 gave us 4 major tournaments. It gave us a rating system. It gave us incredible prizes. It gave us a year ending Championship that even had a glass trophy. Most importantly though, it gave us the chance to catch up with old friends and make many new ones. In my wildest dreams I could not have anticipated how successful 2014 was going to turn out to be. A big thanks goes out to everyone involved. This was not done by one person alone, but by many dedicated players and hosts. Thank you all for sharing your enthusiasm and time with the rest of us!
That brings us up to today. Below I have included all of the current information for this years event. Location and room information are at the bottom.

Would these proxies be legal?
Yes chuu those all look good.
Our biggest concern is people using proxies that do not look like the actual card.
Our other concern is that the cards feel roughly the same inside the sleeves so as not to allow the proxy cards to be "marked" for shuffling purposes. Thickness etc.
Can someone that's gotten proxies from please remark if they feel different than other cards when they are in sleeves?
Chuu: I don't think you have anything to worry about. Your proxies are slightly more stiff than regular cards. This extra stiffness is sometimes noticeable when riffle shuffling, but only when the proxies are brand new and have not been shuffled previously. If you shuffle like this guy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjLp5wh5y90), then the extra stiffness is unnoticeable.
I think the only thing to pay attention to with the proxies is the deck is sleeved in sleeves with an opaque back. As with some cards from the later legacy sets, the sizes of the proxies are not the same as some of the earlier legacy cards. This would be noticeable with clear-backed sleeves.
What about proxies for activators?

Teesaw, I don't think there should be any issue using the 3-stat bishop hero card as an activator, that's legal....:P
if anyone needs 3 stat activators, i have massive duplicates and would love to help anyone out :)

This would be considered a level 2 energy power card. You will need a proxy that looks like a Bishop hero. It may be easier to get the actual card than a usable proxy in some cases. Ask around. Since we are a few months away from the event, perhaps chuu would be willing to take proxy orders?? If this turns out to be true, just make sure to toss him a little coin for his time.

I have no problem making proxies for people but I will need about a month to make sure it's printed and mailed out to them in time for the tournament.
Hey guys,
So far I think a friend and I will be going to the tournament. Is there any pre-registration needed/do you have a max number of participants? Or do we just show up on Friday? As we are coming from Canada, we just want to make sure :)
Looking forward to meeting you all!
Checking in to see if there's any free space in any cars going from Toronto? If so, I'd like to catch a ride, if possible.

I don't think there's a maximum. No pre-registration needed either.

We normally figure that out at the meetup just before the tournament. We're working out a date for the February meetup, which might be the 28th.

Thanks for the info Jack. Keep me updated about the gathering and I'll do my best to be there.
There is no pre registration required. We can accommodate 100's if need be. There are additional rooms ;)
Great to hear you guys will be attending.
Also, Jack's group has booked their room.
Game on!
February 28th meetup in Toronto at Dueling Grounds to brush up our decks and work out rides
Thanks Jack! I'll be there.
I just realized we're inside 60 days until the K2 Challenge.
Any idea what the turn out is going to be like?
BOW OP MINIONS.......
Your OP GOD is here.....
If anyone thought that the omnipotent one would be quiet to the lead up of the 20th anniversary KICKOFF K2 CLIMB.....
Well you are sadly mistaken....
The OP GOD will have a new deck!
So not to ruin the tournament, but you are all probably better off saving your time and effort.
I shall smite any OP foe, that dares sit across from me.
Will you be there?
OP GOD
M
It is a bit early to predict the number of players.
If I had to guess, I would say it will be similar in number to the Championship, which was 20.
Last year I believe the K2 had roughly 17 players. We have double digits committed already. It is possible that we could hit mid 20s.
Seems a bit intimidating to a newbie. Perhaps someone could do a how-to play seminar? I have tons of cards but never learned or had a place to play.
where are you located? Maybe one of us live nearby and could meet.

Is the meet up still happening next Saturday?
" - PROXIES WILL BE LEGAL AT THIS EVENT. Strict rules will be announced in the coming months regarding what a proxy will be required to look like."
:). 3 weeks away... So are Chuu's babe power cards ok? Laser printer COLOR print outs backed with a card going to be ok? Do tell
We're still doing a meetup on the 28th.
The proxy rule will be that any card that looks and feels like the real card in a sleeve is playable.
So basically it will need to be a color printout on top of a regular card or cards such as chuu had at the championship. This does NOT include babe cards as they do not look like regular cards.
Any other questions, please ask.
I can't wait to see everyone.
Happy deck building!

you gonna take you gals to the meet anyway?
i'll have sets at the Toronto meet up this weekend.
But I won't be at the K2 Challenge...
I won't be coming either, I'm afraid. Mike offered me a ride to the tournament, but I'd like to let him know that I won't be coming. Does anyone know his username so I can PM him?
I can let him know on Facebook.
Thanks Jack.
That's too bad you can't go Kyoujin, you seemed really stoked about going :(
So is everyone ready for the tourney? Have all your decks set up? I'll prbably bring my new Chuu cards to set up a deck to try it out if anyone has them as well.
We are coming down to crunch time leading up to this years K2 Challenge. If anyone wants to purchase singles or sets of Overpower at the event please contact me as soon as possible. Do to proxy cards being legal this year, we will not be bringing the full truck load of cards we brought last year. We are still selling singles, but we can't guarantee we will have what you need if you do not contact us in advance.
We will again be accepting cards towards the purchase of packs. We will have packs from all overpower sets. At the bottom you can find our want list of regular cards. Credit for these will be dependent on the card. Next, we are looking for miscut cards, this happens with IQ uncommons from what I have been able to find. Also, we are looking for the IQ and classic special cards that have pink splotches on them. The splotches on the IQ cards are found in the name. With the possible exception of Magneto's Magnetic Devastation, as I have not yet seen it. I would also guess this will be found in the name, but time will tell. Finally there are a few Powersurge cards that can be found with far more silver than they should have. For these, we are only interested if the area is very very silver. We will give $5 pack credit until we have a few of each of the cards listed.
IQ Cards to check for pink splotch:
Beast's Brilliant Deduction (in the 'S')
Henry Pym's Giant-Man (in the 'P')
Kingpin's Crime Magnate (in the 2nd 'I')
Magneto's Magnetic Devastation (likely in the name)
Spider-Man's Science Whiz (in the 'D')
Spider-Woman's Rescue Operation (in the 'S')
Classic Cards to check for pink or yellow splotch (I only need those listed):
Doubleshot (6E 6S/F)
Black Panther's Jungle Savvy
Bullseye's Precision Shot
Ka-Zar's Jungle Savvy
Marrow's Bone Snap
Psycho-Man's Fear
Shang-Chi's Kung Fu Secrets
Thunderbolts' Techno
Powersurge Extremely Silver:
Mr. Sinister's Power Scheme
Namor's Atlantis Attacks
Super Skrull's Immitation

I'm pretty sure a Canadian will win it.
What happened? Who was in the finals? With what decks?
Well, this post might get taken down, but here goes:
Finals were Marcel (OPGOD) Vs. Garion (HOTROD)
Marcel's deck was - Invisible Woman, Scarlet Witch, Inhumans and Dr. Strange in Reserve
I wasn't actually there but I think Garion used Lex Luthor, Dark Beast, Star Jammers, Silver Sable in Reserve - this was the deck he was testing..
A Dr. Strange deck in the finals of a Canadian overpower tournament..... SHOCKING!
Props to Hot Rod on the Lex Luthor deck though, I hope he won, based on originality alone.
Oh ya, Garion did win, missed that part...lol.
Marcel was 7-0 going into the finals, and Garion was 6-1 I believe.
thanks,
Pat

I'm really like Marcel's deck. I think Invisible Woman is a quite powerful character and I try to create decks that abuse her inherent ability and defensive capabilities. I had thought of Marcel's deck.
Full wrap up to be posted soon, Marcel allowed everyone to take pictures of his 9-1 deck and this is the deck list for anyone who's interested:

Thank you to everyone that attended this years K2 Overpower tournament. Our numbers increased from last year and as far as I can tell, everyone had a great time.
Congratulations to Garion and Marcel for both finishing the day with 9 wins and 1 loss. Garion won the game that mattered the most and took home the victory. Great job guys.
One final thanks goes out to Keith, my cousin John and my wife Jessica for helping make this weekend possible. Thanks guys!
Photos of the event will be posted as soon as they can be processed.
Until next time, venture well.
Overpower is so fascinating, it is now 20 years old (and ~15 years removed from adding new stuff to the cardpool) yet there is still room for innovation. When decks reach such a finely tuned level of optimization, it makes sense that Luthor has a place in the metagame. Even just a few years ago it would have been unthinkable to justify combining Thor + 8 Stat into frontline Luthor, but he has become viable in a format that is less about a venture winning arms race and more about finding ways to eke out incremental advantages. Kudos to HotRod, and I hope everyone else had a great time!
how dare marcel not use gorgon
LOL
Marcel, I have to ask..... Why the conceal? I like the deck but ide take it out and run it at 56 cards. What was your thinking behind that mr god?
The final match was truly epic. You are all in for the best Overpower game ever recorded on camera in my opinion.
Thanks to everyone for the congratulations, I look forward to more God slaying for your entertainment.
Gotta watch out for those old bald guys!

Larry plays Conceal with his FF plaza team and I found it frustrating not being able to "blow up" placed cards: confusion can't work, speed through is neutralized, no lethal tester allowed! I look forward to his reply.
Conceal.
The current meta game is revolved around discards : for example say an average deck runs one discarder.(iceman, ironman, scarlet witch and many more .) Also , star jammers with raza as well as ghost rider who has both a raza and discard. Thirdly, power leech, events (hideout discovered). I have just named a handful of tournament cards often found in many if not all decks in a tournament. ( I may have started that meta with my ghost rider and scarlet witch combo. -Ohio 2014)
So according to marvels meta- I can play conceal defensively against ANY of those earlier suggested cards. Protecting me completely. However, for me this was not good enough and a little to circumstantial still. However, after playing a few test games with Sean (BBH). He pointed out that should invisible woman die, conceal is still in play until negated... This advantage is too much.
So yes I understand the down side, however in the current meta it is a major protection saving my negates.
Kudos hotrod. We will meet again.
The finals will go down as one of the best. Insane back and forth.
I put this deck out for all, to advance the learning curve for new players.
Any more questions?
M
OP GOD
i know its just a level 4 special (that force many discards upon hit) so why not put it in the already damn nice deck?
Gorgon.
I am not a big fan. First negative, is that it is only a 4. Easily blocked and I didn't need additional strength icons in the deck. Second and biggest negative, inhumans was a known first target. With this knowledge I thinned them out basically allowing for an early trade of characters. In the tapes you will see I often trade them in a battle with one of their characters changing many a game. Already having released usually 3/5 specials. So, unless I was running them and crystal (which I wouldn't). Gorgon gets the day off.

if what I've heard about the deck breakdown is accurate, the card to get rid of to get to 56 is DoW
only 3 decks out of 19 used sites, and 8/8 in the elimination round were anys
I believe it was 15 Any Heroes and 4 Battlesites but I'll have to double check when I get around to making the wiki post.

You are an extremely welcoming and generous group. See you in May!
