Title: sticky fingers
Post by: breadmaster on April 21, 2011, 11:57:09 PM
you guys find this card any good?  i guess it got a bit better when allys came along.

what do you think about allowing it to use teamworks as well, but make it opd?

of course, then nobody would place tw cards when they see an opponent with characters with this card...

In case anyone was wondering...

I'm not entirely sure if you can 'steal' an Ally card with it. There are only 2 CB cards (the other one is Black Cat's Cat Burglar) and both were released in Powersurge (before Ally cards).

The meta rules also say that the hero playing the CB special must also be able to use the Universe card.

It would be a decent card if you can use it to pick up Teamworks, you don't lose any cards in the process and your opponent loses a placed teamwork.

I think the card is too "situational".  I never saw it used in tournament play.

why on earth would they come up with the meta that the universe must be usable...

to handicap an already useless card?

Agreed.  If you look at this card from the context of the art and how it would work in the comics though, it actually makes sense.  If someone throws something too heavy for Scarlet Spider to lift at him, being able to stick to it doesn't mean he'll be able to throw it back at them.  Likewise if it was a weapon that he was not smart enough to figure out how to use, or if it was an energy based weapon that required the users energy to power.  I think it would have been better off as an AI and be done with it.

It seems like, if you play this "as written", you could combine this with an Ally card, making it as high as a 10!
I realize that Ally cards cannot normally be combined with anything, but this card is telling you to combine it with any Universe card that's not a Teamwork...

Right, but I don't think that Scarlet Spider would be able to grab someone's ally and then make them attack for him.  Unless it was a robot and then he reprogrammed it.

Or if he grabbed him and forcibly hurled him into the opponent! ;)

Which would require combing it with a strength power card.  It would be best if it was J. Jonah Jameson.

Or intellect, if he convinced him to turn against his buddy... etc.

It becomes a potentially deadly combo attack that uses your opponent's own cards against him, without losing card advantage.

If the opponent takes the hit, it could be a double icon hit, though it cost you 2 cards to use, it also cost your opponent 1. If he defends it, he's still down 2 because he had to defend his own ally.

And there's a risk to that card, in that if your opponent doesn't play anything playable with the card, you've got a discard on your hand.

Reasonably balanced, and quite annoying to your opponent. ;)
