BBH vs nostalgic
nate grey vs kyle
zippahead vs oppl95
Post Merge: July 11, 2011, 08:59:25 AM
we are using official rules, and using the marvels cards
so far, 2 matches have occured
yours truly
crystal
x-man
spawn
R-inhumans
beat day trippa
x-babies
team x
maverick
R-sabretooth
this was a crazy match. the events couldn't have worked out better for me. the ko event came on the second hand, with 2 hits on crystal and no cards placed. trippa ko's maverick. in the second hand, i drew hideout discovered, which wiped out one of his placed tw's...i had none.
despite this good luck, i played a horrible round in hand 3 or 4. i lost x-man, and due to a horrendous miscalcualtion, also lost the venture.
through great draws and a little bluffing, inhumans and spawn managed to eke out a win (i think we just made it into pp). i'd state that i was thoroughly outplayed overall, but luck was on my side. if i want to advance further, have to tighten up, and concede earlier.
in the second match, zippa defeated oppl
:o There's that many people playing now??? When me and BBH played for awhile there, there was never anyone else around! I'm going to have to make some decks that don't suck......
I Finally had my match with Nostalgic.
Epic battle, tons of fun.
He was running an intellect team of - Donald Pierce, Beast, Professor X with Lex Luthor in Reserve.
I brought in my 'Trick or Treaters' - X-babies, Ghost Rider, Morbius and Spider Woman in Reserve.
Nostalgic was running Any Heroes, and I was using Krakoa as my battlesite.
First round did not go in my favour. Not one bit. Only 1 discard off the top, but not a lot of heavy hits. Nostalgic placed some brutal cards, not the least of which was his Prof X Mindwipe and Power Leech to Team OverPower. He ventured 4, and I opted to draw the 2, getting my Miracle Worker alive event, and a 2nd Rescue operation for Woman. Both discards.
I conceded before battle.
2nd round didn't seem that much better, as Nostalgic was in a place to easily bet for the win, which he did. I discarded L'il Rogue, drew my card for his venture and settled in for a fight to stave off the humiliation of a 2 round loss. We proceeded to hammer each other, but fortunately I hammered just that much more, enough to drive him back with a final blow of Siberian Strength from the site, forcing him to drop three cards and shake the strength of his hand. Still, he didn't concede, Mindwipe could have made the difference. He tossed it at Morbius, but I played Thunderbird to call Keen senses and avoid the attack as well as draw a card, a 6 strength power card, which I promptly attacked with. After that hit struck, he conceded, costing him 3 missions and giving me a little breathing space to play catch up.
Death staved off for the time being we proceeded to round 3.
We both placed everything we could, and after venture, Nostalgic conceded before the battle.
Round 4. Getting our hands, we both bet two and started to brawl. After a few hits, Nostalgic played the New Universe and we moved on to Round 5 with a few cards placed apiece.
Round 5 - LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER. This is where things turned significantly in my favour. Using an Image Inducer on the X-babies, I was able to absorb enough hits to keep my guys alive while I hammered Prof X and Beast in the the ground. Beast's last move before dying was to nobly play his Analyze to remove a hit from Donald Pierce's permanent record, thus saving him from my final attack which would have killed him. Being unable to concede because of the event, Nostalgic was caught in a bad situation.
Round 6. Entropy Field. Because of Tom's Event I lost my only activator, which happened to be Beyonder. We both placed what we could, but cards were light for both of us. We both had severely wounded characters. Morbius had two multi power hits (one power card and one special) in his record, Ghost Rider had a Gamma Terror in his, and the babies were suffering with an Ally, a doubleshot and a bunch of power cards. Spectrum had been achieved, so despite the power cards a cumulative kill would have done it for them. I ventured one, as did Nostalgic, and he conceded before the battle.
Round 7. Final round. Due to my liberal use of the Image inducer 2 rounds prior, I was in my power pack early. With a Max 6 team, and all characters seriously injured, I knew I had to go for the win now or never. Fortunately, I was only 3 away. So I bet them all. Nostalgic went two, and we were off.
He'd been targeting Morbius a lot, and I drew Morbius cards this hand. I had to get rid of them as my defense was limited this time. Both of us had two negates - him running a Donald Pierce and his Bastion, me with L'il longshot and Undead Stamina. He tried to flush my placed lil longshot with an Art of the Deal from Luthor, even though I knew it wouldn't really help him this round, I opted to negate it with Morbius' negate. He then attempted to play Web Headed Wizard, which I also negated. He stopped one of my Morbius specials with his Donald Pierce, and beat my Draw 3 (Ghost Rider's 'Marvel's card) with Bastion.
In the end, he took out Morbius with a level 5 power card, but I'd landed two level 5 hits on him. his final attack was a level 8 power card, which I stopped with my final card, Rescue Operation from Spider Woman. Thus taking the Venture and the game.
Great fun, Nostalgic! Thanks for the game!

In no way do I remember the play by play for Nate and I's game. After a back and forth battle, which saw Nate push me to the brink and venture for the win, I was able to mount a come back and just barely sneak out a win. A tip of the hat to Nate for being a valiant opponent.
Alas (well, sort of...) I will be away from civilization for the next 7 days. Going camping, and leaving tomorrow. Sorry about the delay, but I guess my inevitable defeat will have to wait for at least a week. ;)

If you load up OP online, and 'resume' the game you played, it will load everything including the game history from your match. You can scroll through it to see the various actions that were taken. It's a good refresher if you ever want to recount more specific details. You don't need your opponent to load as well, you can do it solo.

Fun game with Kyle. Awesome comeback! I really thought I had it since I was venturing just my last two for the win early in the game, but the cool thing about Overpower is that victory is never guaranteed and your fortunes can change from one hand to the next. I was using my Strength deck that the other OPO players are quite familiar with. ;D

That was a great summary. One thing I would add is my DoW came up in that LAST hand! :P Obviously had that come up earlier and shut down the battlesite for a little while it would have made a pretty big difference. At any rate it was quite fun. We'll defintely be playing again soon enough. ;D
so BBH and i played our second round match
as good as my luck was in the first game, it was equally bad this one.
unfortunately, my level of sucktitude remained consistent...harv cruised to an easy win. he'll have details later
Breadmaster and I had our match late last night. Though it was past midnight and I was drained, the cards were in my favour the whole way this time.
My team of Trick or Treaters - (X-Babies, Ghost Rider, Morbius and Spider Woman (r) Krakoa Battlesite -faced down his powerhouse squad of energy blasters - Crystal, X-Man, Spawn and the Inhumans (r) Outback Battlesite - in a short and bloody 4 round match.
Round 1 - Lambs to the Slaughter. My key event came up right off the bat, and I had a solid hand. No discards and lots to attack with. Breadman dropped a dupe jubilee off the top. Since there was no conceding, we didn't bother placing and were off to the races. Absorbing 3 hits into Ghost Rider (kept alive with his wonderful inherent) I was able to keep card advantage as I pounded on Spawn drawing out his defense. With his last card, Breadman dropped X-man's 11, hoping that he'd flushed out all my defense. I was still holding a Thunderbird activator, and traded it for Keen Senses, avoiding the hit and drawing a Teamwork, fueled by a multi 4 I was saving for a kill shot. I killed Spawn and wounded X-man. We moved on to round two.
Round 2 - Heroes Avenge Murder. How oddly appropriate. The KO event is unfortunately one of my weaknesses when it comes to this deck. Hasta La Vista Morbius. Breadman obviously killed Crystal. Inhumans and X-man VS X-Babies, a critically injured Ghost Rider and Spider Woman. With no defense this hand and an injured teammate I couldn't protect, I placed what I could and ran away. Breadman also loaded up - as he likes to say "The arms race began."
Round 3 - Two discards for me - Morbius' negate and a rescue operation. So much for Spider woman. Wait! Image Inducer to the rescue again. By inducing hits to the babies, I was once again able to absorb the necessary about of damage to facilitate a heavy retaliation. Flushing his negate with Siberian strength, we battled it out, but timely use of Wolverine's tracking senses against X-man enabled me to summon A-next for a killing blow, leaving X-man Dead and Inhumans hurt with Ghost Rider's Hell on Wheels as the final follow up from that string. With still more visible attacks placed to my guys, Breadman was forced to flee.
Round 4 - Final round. Miracle Worker Alive. Healing my guys at just the right time, only a small concern that he too was healed. Not placing, I bet everything I could, which was not for the win unfortunately. His venture of 5 raised my suspicion and I realized he must be holding a Reavers Activator with Pretty Boy. A risky gambit, given that I was running X-babies and could easily have a negate. (I didn't, but he didn't know that yet.) I drew my 3, all discards. Not good. As I thought, he blocked himself off with Pretty Boy, leaving me with only one chance. Having flushed his negate in the previous round, I played Ghost Rider's Draw 3, giving me one discard a Lil Rogue and Lil longshot (Phew!). I played lil Rogue to stall, hoping to lock another potential attack down from his site. Once that was done, I let Ghost Rider Die, and cleared away Pretty boy. Unable to defend the rest of my cards, I killed the Inhumans, losing Venture, but taking the game by KO as I hadn't bet for the loss and he hadn't bet for the win.
Always a good time, Breadman! I'll catch you online for some more casual games.
The other Semi-finalists are Zippa-Head VS Kyle. Kyle's away for a week, so we'll have to wait a little while before we see the results of their match.

Well, Breadman's Op Online tournament experiment has come to a close. It was fun. In the end my Trick or Treaters walked away with the bag of goodies. (Which consists of the pride of victory and a a celebratory chunk of banana bread from my fridge.)
I don't know the specifics of Kyle VS Zippa Head, other than Kyle took the match. I'll let one of them give the details.
Since we were both online, we decided to jump right into our game.
The lineups were:
Me: X-babies, Ghost Rider, Morbius with Spider Woman in reserve. Krakoa Battlesite.
Him: Donald Pierce, Beta Ray Bill, Dark Beast and Callisto in reserve. Hell's Kitchen Battlesite.
Round 1: Miracle Worker Alive. I hate when that event comes up in the first hand. Sigh.
The arms race began. We both loaded up with placed cards. But gauging the level of attacks available to him, I knew I could easily slam him with minimal damage in return, so I bet 3. Kyle must have realized the same, so declined the draw and conceded before the battle.
Round 2:
Both of us in good shape for a fight. We set in for a tussle. I took a pot shot at Dark beast with Sunfire's controlled burn. He blocked. Kyle played Caliban from reserve through Callisto to call an activator. I was holding a lil longshot, but I decided to see what he'd bring up. With pretty boy placed, my guess was that he was going to attempt a viking pyre to craft his hand next round. Acrobatics, pretty boy, Snake marston from the site. Good tactic if you can manage it. I continued to poke at him with tiny hits, see what he planned to do. A level 1 intellect on to Beta ray, which he took. Sure enough, Ghost Rider, skeletal summoning through Beta Ray was next. Still, I let it happen. Next I tossed a level 2 fighting at Beta Ray, which he blocked. Too close to a spectrum. Finally, the Viking pyre, as anticipated. Negated. So no crafting for you, Kyle, sorry.
That being done, I fired off the Any Power teamwork at Dark Beast, followed by a level 6 strength Power card. Both connected. Kyle returned fire with a teamwork of his own. He attacked Morbius, I let the first attack connect, but defended the follow up, then promptly conceded. His Pyre thwarted and some damage done, I thought it best to retreat and regroup.
Round 3: We drew, we placed and off we went.
Kyle started with an ally and another Caliban. Hello Morbius' negate. No good for numerical attacks, but just right for all those irritating effects your opponent can generate such as calling an activator of their choice. I returned fire with an ally of my own, followed by Lil Rogue to lock his own site down. Alas, also negated. Bat out of Hell from his site cost me a placed Savage combat next. A-next followed by a multi-4 on to Beast continued the brawl - he absorbed the a-next, but stopped the kill shot. A-next of his own against my X-babies, which I promptly stopped followed by a level 1 energy against Morbius, stopped by my own level 1 intellect. Still in the fight, I fired off a Neuro-Toxin from the battlesite. Denied by Donald Pierce. Kyle's next effort was an attack against Morbius with Elektra's shuriken, which I could have stopped with a 6 strength in my hand, but opted to trade blows, gambling he was out of defense and I could take out Dark Beast. The gamble paid off, and Dark Beast went down. Beta Ray slammed Ghost Rider with a level 7 strength power card, and I was forced to flee. Damage done though, the first of his guys was gone.
Round 4: To err is human, to really foul things up takes a bad draw.
Thankfully, I didn't have a bad draw. I loaded up my guys to the brink and conceded before battle. My Lambs to the Slaughter event was looming, so I needed to be ready.
Round 5: Draw and place again. Off to the races. No lambs, but I can't afford to keep conceding. I had enough to hurt him, so I opted to stick with it. A Colossus in hand would be a good thing if his negates were gone.
He started heavy with an ally on the babies (blocked) and Power of Asgard from Beta Ray against Morbius. Also blocked, with the first of my Rescue Operations this game. (About time they started showing up.)
I retaliated with Siberian strength. Score! No negate on his side. He dropped 3 cards from hand and conceded.
Round 6: Final round. Brawl!!!
With massive card advantage and the perfect mix of offense and defense I knew it was now or never. I bet four for the win, giving Kyle two more. He too went for the win.
I started with an ally onto Beta Ray (blocked by hypersenses) and followed with a Blood Hunger on to Callisto. What a coup that would have been to hit, but I knew damn well it wasn't going to. My goal was simply to flush out as much of his defense as possible for my heavy hits (Hell on Wheels and Lil Colossus) to have a better chance of success. Ninja stopped the blood hunger and I prepared for retaliation. Gift of the Gods from Thor. No negate, obviously he was going for his 12, not good for me, but I did have something to stop it, assuming he didn't flush it out with something else. Fortunately for me, Kyle discovered that there were no more Thor specials in his draw pile, thus ending his turn.
Living Vampire against Callisto, hoping to flush out more defense, or in the very least heal Morbius a bit. Snake marston stopped it, and put me in a potentially bad situation as he still had his Pretty Boy placed, now Callisto was partially blocked and a pure avoid sitting on Beta Ray. I'd have to be careful at this point.
He played Caliban again, to summon another activator.
Time to flush that avoid on Beta Ray. Demon chain from the Rider, (blocked) followed by a level 5 energy on the already injured Beta ray. Taking no chances, he used the avoid, clearing the path for me for my heavier stuff.
He played a Kingpin activator and drew 3. Damn you lack of negate! Even with 3 additional, I still had more cards, so it wasn't lost. He pitched an unusable Acrobatics and I continued my assault.
Time for a teamwork now that (hopefully) the majority of his defense was gone. Teamwork at Callisto with a single follow up. Both hit. I was now at 9 venture to his 0.
Callisto played run from Slaughter to remove that teamwork. 3-0 venture for me, not as comfortable a lead as I'd have like. But still good. I still had my heavy hits and he was running out of cards.
Lil Phoenix on Beta Ray. Hit. Back up to 10 venture. Beta Ray retaliated with the Unfettered might. So he had it already and didn't need the Gift of the Gods. Thankfully, I'd been hanging on to my handy Thunderbird activator. Keen senses allowed me to avoid it and draw a card. The draw was an unusable teamwork unfortunately, but the avoid did it's job and saved me from taking a 12.
Time to get on the Motorbike. Hell on Wheels straight at Beta Ray. Hit. Still not dead, but 16 damage and two icons. Just enough space for my lil colossus to guarantee my venture.
Kyle amped up his assault and fired a teamwork at Morbius for the kill. Polaris' teamwork killer stopped that cold. I retaliated with Lil colossus and finished off Beta Ray bill, adding another 10 to my venture which was sitting at 29 - 0 for me.
Another teamwork on the babies, hit, with a follow up on Morbius for the kill. A level 2 energy, no problem. I had two cards left - a rescue operation and a wolverine activator. Rescue op for any big venture (like that 7 intellect power card he had placed to Donald Pierce) and Wolvie for one final attack.
Fired off Tracking senses which was promptly blocked by Pretty boy. He threw Skull buster at the babies for the kill. 2 more venture, no problem. I passed with rescue Op in hand. He dropped Bone Breaker from Donald Pierce, which I stopped with Rescue op, leaving his final attack with the level 7 intellect power card. It connected, but leaving him well short on venture.
And so my Trick or Treaters limped away with the victory.
Great game Kyle! Catch you soon!

Nice! Thor's specials for the cost of 22 points is a bargain with the ability to be offset with a single 16 point character.
However, If your playing against that max 6 deck, you really need to kill Ghost Rider first.

Here's a belated congratulations to BBH for winning our little online tournament. :) It was great to finally be involved in something like this. Hope we get to do it again.
