Well Match #1 for me was against Dr.Death, we connected on the first try via Hamatchi.
Due to the rules about sharing of decks and teams... this will be a pretty vague recap.
Hand 1
Dr.D had 2 discards to my 1. He placed 4 cards, 1 TW, 2 power cards and 1 defensive special. I placed 5 cards 3 power cards, 1 TW and one offensive special. I ventured 2, he ventured 1 and conceded pre-battle.
Hand 2
Dr.D has 1 discard to my 0. Dr.D placed 4 cards, 1 ally, 2 specials (1 offensive and one defensive) and one power card. I placed 4 as well, 2 TW's and 2 specials (one of each). I ventured 3 and Dr.D drew a card and bet 2.
I had the initiative and played Absorb Sound. It hit and Dr.Death had to discard one team work and 3 power cards.
Dr.D attacks with an ally. Blocked by gaurdian, the followup attack hits for 3 points and I block the second followup.
I attacked with a TW next. Initial attack is defended, followup level 2 power card hits. No second followup.
Dr.D attacked me next with a special, it was successful and I was forced to discard 2 placed teamwork cards.
I play a level 6 special card. It hits. Character now has 2 hits against 1 away from spectrum.
Dr.D attacks with level 2 power card. Blocked with Kinetic Absorbtion, I draw 1 card. Drawn card is level 7 attack special.
I play level 7 special for KO. It hits. Dr.D has his first casualty.
Dr.Death concedes battle.
Missions: Me - 5 - 2 - 0 Dr.D - 0 - 4 - 3
Round 3
Event from me. Shockwave Rocks the World (Cards with energy icons may not be used to attack)
I have 2 discards, I don't recall what Dr.Death had.
I place 2 offensive specials, 1 energy power card, 1 aspect. Dr.Death places two TW's with energy icons. I venture 2 for the win, he ventures 1.
I lead off with an ally that is blocked followed up with a level 5 special attack that hits.
Dr.Death attacks with a level 8 power card that hits.
I play Web Headed Wizard
Dr.Death concedes battle and game to me.
I was using my "inferior" Team X deck that I posted under the OP Online Tourney page.
Dr.D's deck is confidential until everyone has played at least one game or until he shares it with all of us.
Grats on the win!
I have a small suggestion, if your opponent didn't want his deck revealed since the tournament is going on, would you mind doing a grand report of all the rounds after the tournament was over? Even tho you omitted his special names I was able to identify 2 characters he was using, so I don't know how serious the players of the tournament are about that kind of knowledge.
Looking forward to your other match reports.
I will give full detail after everyone has played a round. Unless Dr.Death wants to give out details of his deck prematurely. UPDATE. Played Bread tonight. In a much tighter match I won on Venture in the last hand before the power pack. Details tomorrow.
oscorp did his best to not reveal characters. it has to be balanced with the interest in posting recaps.
also, ask drd, and see if the 2 characters are correct
anyways, oscorp and i played our match
me
Captain MarVell, Dark Beast, Puppet Master, Dr Strange(r)
him
Dazzler, TeamX, Maverick, Sabretooth (r)
this was a massacre. not a massacre in the 3 round sense, but in the 'i never posed a threat' sense.
he may post a more detailed recap later. congrats to oscorp on 2-0!

really?! seems like drdeath25 could be using any number of people and the game could've gone as described above... anyway, congrats to Oscorp on his quick start!
Douche lost in the first round?? ;D BUT HE'S SO GOOD!!! ::)
WTG Oscorp! Off to a nice lead already.
If anyone wants to improve their record, come and find me. ;D
Dr.D had some very poor drawing luck, and was under the gun from the get go. He has a very formidable deck and could just as easily have beaten me.
I wouldn't get him all riled up or we will have to listen to him crowing about his future victories. :P
Well, I lost to Sean, so I'm 0-1 now. I think Sean may do the play by play, but really, it was never even close. lol

No worries bro, he luck-sacked me with that deck as well.
Too bad it looks like you'll scrub out of this one, I was hoping for another match vs BBH in the finals. :P
Trick ot Treat? Is that thr name of the deck, a new special from the unreleased set? I've seen it mentioned a few times here.
Dawn! I lost that one... Hope you guys can start another tournament soon,
we should turn it into a world event!

Well, I don't see any reason you can't join. We're doing a round robin, so everyone plays everyone else anyway. Talk to Breadmaster about it, it's his baby.

It's the nickname I gave my Max 6 team - X-babies, Morbius, Ghost Rider and Spider Woman.
RESULTS!
Me against Kyle
Because I don't want to reveal the specifics of Kyle's deck, I'll keep this one brief. Besides, I think some of you are eagerly awaiting the results of my game with Dr. Death! ;)
Kyle and I went 6 rounds, but I was able to keep a slight card advantage each time with careful absorption of hits and retaliation, which often left Kyle in a precarious position of either conceding or losing a character.
Round 5 and 6 left me with placed card advantage and the ability to venture 3 and then 3 again for the win, at which point he just couldn't match my firepower.
I took the game at the end of round 6.
And now - the anticipated match against Dr. Death.
My Trick or Treaters faced down a powerhouse squad, (not yet to be mentioned until Dr. D gives the okay)
Now, lots can be said here. There has certainly been no shortage of friction and bad blood. But the bottom line was that we played a good game. I am certainly not against playing more games against him.
Some details will be vague, as I don't want to give any info away about his team.
Round 1:
No events, 1 discard apiece – A 5 energy for me and an AP 6 for him.
We each placed a load of cards, Dr. D. bet 3 and I bet 1, conceding before the battle.
Round 2:
Some more placing, Dr. D bet 2, as did I and we were off!
Ghost Rider seems to be the primary target by my opponents, and Dr. Death didn't stray from that pattern, leading off with a teamwork. I stopped the TW with Fire and Brimstone, and absorbed the follow up, a multi 2.
I retaliated with an ally against his central character (my primary target) which he took, and followed up with Morbius' blood hunger against my secondary target. This he very wisely blocked with a multi 5.
He attacked again with another TW against the Rider. This time I took it. His follow up, a level 1(+1 from the TW) str power card, I blocked with a level 2 power card.
Time for a TW of my own. Strength TW against his central guy. Defended with a special, as is my follow up multi power 5.
A crunchy level 7 attack against Ghost Rider again... stopped with Angel's avoid from the battlesite.
Ghost Rider launches his teamwork against his central character. With two follow-ups placed, Dr. D realized too late that he didn't have enough to stop the assault. He blocked the TW but the two power cards wiped out his character.
Dr. D concedes and we move on.
Round 3
We draw, we place. Dr. D has a discard from his dead character. But his cards outweigh the strength of my cards quite easily. I bet one, he bets 3. I decide not to run away quite yet so I draw. Unfortunately for Dr. D the card I get changes things for my hand and I'm no longer outweighed. It's amazing what a single negate in your hand can accomplish for you.
I decide to gauge some of his defense with Wolverine's tracking senses from the site against his reserve character (now in the front of course). He takes the hit! I fish out my A-next and drop it, which he also takes, and finish off the string and the character with Savage combat from Morbius. Interesting, I thought for sure he could block some of that.
He retaliates with a level 4 fighting AA special against Ghost Rider. I take the hit, giving GR 3 icons towards spectrum. Dr. Death points out that Ghost should be dead, but I remind him of the inherent ability at which point he swears and continues the assault. The assault is relentless and I am forced to KO Ghost Rider in the end after he lands a 4th icon. I know this is potentially bad because at that point I have only seen one Ghost Rider special.
I attack my new primary target with a level 1 intellect. He takes the hit. He retaliates with a placed card I was fearing, until I drew that negate. I stop it and continue my offensive. Morbius tosses a multi 4 against the same character. He avoids it with a special.
Another TW! This time he starts picking on Morbius. I have Polaris in hand, and use Manipulate Magnetism to stop it cold.
Retaliate with Lil Phoenix. Hit. He tosses a level 2 str at Morbius. My last action is to drop Angel's Neuro-toxin onto him, not for the kill, but for massive venture.
Dr. Death concedes again, costing him 3 missions.
Round 4
LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER
Alas, I had 3 Ghost Rider Discards. Fortunately, Dr. Death was also hurting from his two lost characters. He placed a few cards, leaving 3 cards in hand. I placed nothing.
No venture, we just started. I was hoping he was without a negate as I played Colossus, Siberian Strength from the battlesite. Success! He dropped what was left of his hand, and being unable to concede I was able to KO another character.
Round 5
His character losses are adding up now. Dr. Death has 5 discards.
I place everything and bet 3. Can't be too greedy, not yet.
We start, I toss a small attack which he blocks, then concedes.
Round 6
Miracle Worker Alive. I heal my wounded character to full health
Dr. Death has another 5 discards, I have only one. We place, I bet 5 for the win, but Dr. Death concedes the game to me before we can fight it out.
So that was our battle. He could have easily had me, but I was able to capitalize on an early miscalculation he made, and take out his key character. From there, it was a downward spiral for him. Such is the nature of the game, and what makes it so much fun.
Thanks for the match Dr. Death. Good luck with your other brackets!

Dude, just stick it out. If you want anyones respect here you've gotta stick it out. To be a good player you have to know how to win, and be able to take a loss.
yeah bios, you want in, just say the word. i'll hook you up with the contact info of anyone you don't have

RESULTS:
Oscorp and I just finished our match.
X-babies, Ghost Rider, Morbius and Spider Woman (r)
VS.
Maverick, Team X, Dazzler, Sabretooth (3 stat) (r)
It was a short and bloody 3 round game. I think Oscorp would have had me if he didn't get a little too greedy in one round to get DoW out.
Round 1
I discarded a duplicate Lil Longshot, Oscorp pitched a duplicate level 7 power card
We placed to the brim, I placed everything I could save for a single activator. As did he. But neither of us conceded. I bet one, he bet two.
The attack began with a teamwork against Ghost Rider. I used my Thunderbird activator to avoid the attack and draw a card. Got a multi 2, giving me more fuel for a placed teamwork. He followed up the TW on Ghost Rider with a level 3 str, which I took.
Retaliating, I threw a TW of my own, which he stopped with Sabretooth's government operative, followed with the multi 2, which he took.
A-next against Ghost Rider, which I let hit, followed by Combat Armor from Maverick, promptly negated with Lil longshot.
I poked at Maverick with a level 1 intellect attack. He took the hit and conceded.
Round 2
Once again, I loaded up, but Oscorp was sparing with his placed cards. But when Oscorp ventured 4, I knew something was up. Probably had DoW. I drew my two - Activators. Figures. Looking at the numbers, I knew that if I could take this round, He'd be 6 in defeated and venturing for the loss next turn. I decided to take the risk and fight it out.
I attacked Maverick with a Bat out of Hell to make him pitch his placed 7 power card. Gone.
Sure enough, Devourer of Worlds was next. Good bye activators!
Morbius, Savage combat for the kill on Maverick. Blocked with an 8 fighting power card.
TW against Ghost Rider. Rescue operation to stop that. I took the follow up power card.
TW from Ghost Rider against Maverick for the kill. The hit connects, Maverick goes down. Follow up against Dazzler, also a hit. 2nd follow up, also a hit. Dazzler's not feeling good.
He plays Legacy regression to Team X. Here's where I have to think. Do I get rid that with my negate, or risk it hurting me later if his No specials event comes up. I opt to keep my negate just in case he has something heavy up his sleeve.
I fire a teamwork at Dazzler, taking her out, and the follow up against Team X. He has that Maverick avoid/draw. But, lucky for me, his draw is Dazzler's absorb sound which is immediately pitched.
He tosses Gamma Terror at me, glad I saved that negate.
I hit the DoW with a sunfire Activator, and Oscorp concedes the round with two dead characters and no more attacks.
Round 3
He's going 1 for the loss. So I keep everything in my hand, and just bet the one.
I toss Demon Chain at Sabretooth, blocked, followed by a multi-4. Hits.
He attacks me with a Teamwork. Damn, he has a lot of those! I take it, and the subsequent follow up. I hit him with Blood Hunger. It lands, but he has no energy icons in hand, so it doesn't cost him anything. He tosses Dangerous mind at me, which I stop with A level 6 strength power card. I attack the DoW with an activator.
His last ditch effort was to use Web headed wizard, but I was hanging on to a Morbius negate, which stopped that cold. Giving me venture and the game by a point.
As always, Oscorp, it's been a blast. Hopefully we can rematch in the finals!
Cheers!

what BBH graciously leaves out of the recap is the fact that I moronically allowed blood hunger to hit me (5F) while I had Government Operative in hand. Foolishly thinking that I could only play it through Sabretooth and not through Team X to defend Sabretooth.
I was bent over a barrel at that point but it may have dragged it out another hand or two.

Belated recap. Oscorp (Dazzler, Team X, Maverick, Sabretooth) vs Breadmaster (Puppet Master, Dark Beast, Captain Mar-Vel, Dr.Strange)
I waited to long and I can't remember everything very clearly, sorry everyone. Bread kept trying to drag the game to the power pack, conceding often but using his events and Cap to reset the missions. In the long run I was able to have things go my way in the 5th or 6th hand and was able to venture 4 and win, putting me into a position to win the game. I was able to venture for the win in the next hand and pull it out just before the power pack.
Sorry for the crappy re-cap.

Yeah, Oscorp you have a very cool deck, there. Sincerely, I love where you're going with it. Dazzler's Inherent, combined with her Absorb Sound, means that she's actually a good fit on any team that's
not an Energy team.
And yes, that last hand we had was kind of a doosy. Crashed once somewhere around mid-point. we resumed with an exact replay, but then it crashed again right there toward the end :-\
Still, can't complain about crashes when a computer is letting me play a card game that died 15 years ago, with some one across the country. Thank you again, OPO creators! :)
Another Oscorp update. Bump me back above .500 with a win against Bios. 3-2 now.
A very cheesy finish. I bet one for the win. Down but not out is in play. I attack and hit with an anypower TW and any power 7 for 13 points and no more playable cards... and let it ride. Luckily Bios only had 9 points of venture worth of power cards. and a mitt full of specials
That only leaves me with Nate, Kyle and Damascus to play for the round robin... need 2 out of 3 to clinch a top four I think.
Lost 3 in a row! I suck!!! :o
Bios vs Breadmaster
One of the most exciting games I ever played. I was able to bet 4 missions in a battle and Breadmaster conceded using Fortress of Solitude. Finally I bet my last 2 missions and he was able to reset the game by playing Universal Aligment. After some rounds in power pack, he bet his last missions for the winning.
Bios vs Oscorp
Oscorp's Power Leech ripped me off. But his "no special cards" event caught me with my pants down. I had only 3 usable cards, not enough to beat his 13 venture points.
Bios vs Kyle
Nothing seemed to work for me. Got duplicates in the first two hands and lost at the 3rd round. No excuses!
At least I got some experience...
Not out of it yet Bios... Although you will probably need wins against Sean and Dr.D to advance now :o
Update on my run. I'm now 5-1.
My streak has come to a close after a lengthy and tense battle with Bios. It's 1 am and I'm beat, so no in depth report on this one... but a timely DoW and Lambs to the Slaughter worked in Bios' favour and caught me with my pants down. Lambs is certainly a double edged sword and this time I really cut myself. It cost me both Ghost Rider and Morbius. Lil Iceman was having a nap somewhere and showed up a hand later. Lazy bastard! Never around when you need him.
I also had a wonderful battle with Nate Grey, I took that one in the end, despite his coming up with just the right counter to more than a few of my attacks. <grumble>
Still it's all good. Glad to have Bios a part of this one.
Waiting on Onslaught, Ncannelora and Demacus.
Cheers all!

Is the Deck editor sort of 'hanging' rather than loading? If so, try running the program 'as admin' to open it. That usually does the trick.
-BBH
After I got it running in XP compatibility, it worked fine for a day, then all the sudden it would give me an error whenever I tried to open the deck editor or load a deck into the actual program. I deleted everything, and redownloaded. As of this morning everything it fine, but if it errors on me again, I'll let y'all know.

Just wondering what the best way to connect and contact with Damascus and Onslaught might be. I`m in the overpower Hamatchi group and I have MSN. oplover at hotmail.ca
More results for me. Played Kyle tonight.
Lucked out, drawing Dow and Leetch in the first hand. I ventured 3 and he bet 4. Unfortunately he had a mitt full of activators.
Kyle led off with an Ally into Deathstrike. Already having DoW in hand he pulled out my lone negate.
I played DoW next. Kyle attacked it with an activator. We traded shots but my DoW card advantage was too much and he ended up conceding after losing one of his front line.
In the second battle I drew Down but not out. I placed my one special and a power card and off we went. Kyle KO'd DoW and I attacked with a power card which was blocked. Kyle conceded.
Third hand I drew Absorb sound, to go along with my placed power Leech. I bet two for the win... Absorb sound was negated but leech hit, draining his hand of the full four cards. I held on for the win 26 to 22. to win the game on venture.
Great match Kyle. Just a heap of bad luck on that first draw for you.
Oscorp now 4-2. still waiting to play Nate Grey, Onslaught and Demacus
More results.
Ncannelora and I had our match.
4 rounds of bloody destruction it was.
My Trick or Treaters faced down against his team.... as before, secrecy until told otherwise.
Round 1:
We placed away, and each ventured only a single. Then we began.
I started with Penance stare to get rid of a few of those placed cards - avoided with a special.
He returned fire with a lockdown on Ghost Rider. Not good. I did have a negate, but he had some other stuff I was worried about more, so I saved it.
He had only 2 in hand, so I called upon Wolverine's tracking senses in the hopes of getting a nice little string. Negated.
An attack by him on the X-babies. level 4 energy special. I take it and back away with placed card advantage.
Round 2:
We place away again, and I venture 4. I've got solid firepower this time. Time to do some damage.
He attacks with a nasty special that I need to avoid. So I use Angel from the site and avoid the attack. I return fire with an Ally and Blood Hunger which he also promptly avoids. My guess is that he had energy icons in hand. ;)
Energy Ally on Morbius and an energy special on Ghost Rider. I absorb the hits. I throw a tiny level 1 intellect at him. He avoids again. Lots of defense, this guy!
Teamwork against Morbius, I take it. Follow up I use Wolverine to shift on to the babies. I retaliate with a level 4 multi which he takes. Ouch - he tosses a crunchy level 10 hit at Morbius. I take that because I can. Morbius can take a beating. I return with a level 5 energy at him. Also a hit.
At this point, despite winning venture, he realizes that I can kill at least two of his characters. He concedes, giving me four missions.
Round 3
BEST LAID PLANS.
His event comes up and I set my next hand. Knowing that if I can go first in the next hand and bet for the win, I can possibly take it. So I venture a mere 1, and stick it out. I start heavy with an ally and Morbius' Savage combat. The ally KOs his guy, but he's able to stop the Savage combat on another character.
A two hit string against Morbius flushes some of my defense. I fire a tiny little level 1 power card against his central character. Hit.
Level 8 multi at Morbius. No defense. The Vampire is dusted. Not good, but I have a lot of attack still and can really hurt him.
We trade a few more blows. He's killing me on venture, but I have the ability to KO his entire front line. He has a choice to make. He attacks me with a level 6 power card. It hits Ghost Rider. I retaliate with lil colossus, bridging the venture gap and hurting his other character as well. Now he sees that not only can I match venture, but I can kill his two remaining front line characters. He concedes. It's not a total rout, though, as my guys are severely crippled.
Round 4
MIRACLE WORKER ALIVE
Removing hits crashes us a couple of times, but we resume and get back to the brawl. He places everything he can, leaving only 4 cards in hand. Bet for the win and immediately hit him with Colossus Siberian strength, costing him 3 of his cards.
We fight it out, he hits me with a draw 3, which potentially can disrupt my plan, but thankfully I also have mine. We trade some more blows, but ultimately I have more venture and take the round and the game.
It was a fun match. Ncannelora had me worried a few times. Much of my defense didn't come up until that final hand. In fact, I got ALL of my Spider Woman avoids at once in that final hand. (You know, the one in which she came to the front line!) So, I was taking more of a beating than I usually do. Thankfully, these guys can take it...
When I left him, he was just starting his match with Kyle. Their report should be up when they're ready.
I am waiting on Demacus and Onslaught, then I am done. Looking forward to it, guys! This round Robin tournament has been a blast. Hopefully we can keep doing them. I love the variety of opponents!

quick update, 'cause I have to get those pesky kids to bed! :)
But, faced off with Kyle in a tough, tough fight. It was up and down, but I pulled it out in the end.
So, I'm 2-1
update:
okay, so here's a concise/vague rundown between me and Kyle
Round 1
We start with a pair of Events, his was useless in the first hand, mine was best-case-scenario in first hand ;)
he had a discard, I had none.
we both placed 4.
we have some back and forth, but he lands a pair of 7s on one of my characters, and I had to concede.
kyle: 2-5-0
me: 0-6-1
Round 2
No Events
No Discards for either of us. He placed 4, I placed 7.
We each went 1 and I conceded from the top.
kyle: 4-3-0
me: 0-5-2
Round 3
He had 1 discard, but I talked him into going 3 FTW. He placed 2, I placed 1.
There's some bloody back and forth, and I lose a character, but it's ok. I stick it out and win the Venture.
kyle: 4-0-3
me: 2-3-2
Round 4
I had 2 discards, he had 1. I placed 1, he placed 4.
This was a quick battle, but I started the upswing.
kyle: 3-1-3
me: 2-5-0
Round 5
Both had 3 discards. He placed 1, I placed 0, because now's my chance, I'm going 5 FTW!
It goes round and round, attacks, defenses, draws, discards. in the end, he's wining the Venture, 9-10, but I have a 1 placed and a 3 in my hand. He passes. I need to choose my targets carefully here, because I know he has defense. I poke the 1. It lands! 10-10. I play the 3, it lands! I win the Venture and the Game.
Good match, Kyle. Hats off to ya ;)
Lost to Bios.
Took him to the power pack. Went 8 hands into the power pack. The Whole time he had xbabies only. I had a 8-stat and a sidekick to go along. He won.
I played the big cheese Onslaught tonight. we ended up playing two games due to a moronic error on my part at the very end of the first game that caused us to have to start over.
Both games were very tight, with the venture bouncing back and forth and battles in which each of us ventured for the win. But in the end Onslaught gave me a sound beating. KO'ing my last two characters and winning venture all in one battle.
I don't want to give anything away about his deck so I will pass on a full write up for now. But if he would like to give a break down he can feel free to reveal anything at all about my deck.
Oscorp 4-3... needs to play Nate and Damascus

I don't mind if anyone knows my deck at this point, I was running the Beyonder chain against Oscorp's Team X/Dazzler build. I guess a recap is in order before I forget everything:
Hand One
Discards: One for me, none for him
He plays Shockwave Rocks the World, I'm not too affected by it besides an 8E powercard. He placed a 7E TW, so we were pretty even on cards. He ventures three and I keep my drawn card, I venture two and stay in and end up losing venture by three. He got Legacy Regression online during this turn too.
Me: 0-5-2
Him: 3-4-0
Turn Two
Discards: One for me, none for him
He has three cards placed and four in hand, and proceeds to bet four for the win. I was already planning to bet four myself, so I drew two (kept one, discarded the KO event. Doh). Even with that extra card extending my advantage, I was leery of betting high. Still, my hand seemed much stronger so I went ahead and bet five, giving him three extra cards (all keepers) on a turn where he was going for the win. He opened with Leech, which was stopped by Acrobatics from AoA battlesite. He had a WHW placed and I had Lil' Longshot placed, so I'm guessing he planned to try Leech/Absorb Sound/WHW for Absorb sound to punch things through. A small chain from Beyonder killed Maverick, and I started to attack Dazzler to avoid walking into Kinetic Absorption. By the time he had the extra actions to pop Webhead and use it for something, it no longer made sense for him to force through the Absorb Sound so he grabbed Legacy Regression (which I had sent away with Lil' Iceman just to burn a turn). He replayed it and I took venture, but not before he used Absorb Sound to discard one of my placed cards.
Me: 5-0-2
Him: 3-0-4
Turn Three
Discards: Neither player had any discards
This was a pretty limp hand, with some poking at Sabretooth and some high value cards used to block low value attacks to save Beyonder. White Queen went down this turn. We tied venture, and moved onto turn four.
Turn Four:
Discards: I believe neither player had any discards
He drew Down But Not Out, which left me with basically nothing for the turn. He ventured an additional one (max that he could), and I bet one and conceded.
Him: 3-3-1
Me: 2-3-2
Turn Five:
I can't recall this turn very well, other than that he placed a Kinetic Absorption and Dazzler's Avoid, while I won venture. At some point during this turn he blocked my Lil Colossus, and I killed Sabretooth after using Street Prophet from the site to block something on Magneto.
Final turn:
I ventured five for the win, and he kept all three. Morph 2f from the AoA site on Team X was blocked, followup Magneto 4M from Beyonder was blocked, followup White Queen 4E AA from Beyonder was blocked, followup White Queen 3i JW hit, followup 4m powercard kill, followup 2s powercard on Dazzler (the second additional attack from Morph's 2f) was blocked. Dazzler's 6E OPD hit Magneto, and then he killer her with his 11 anypower.
Interesting match, because I kept planning my turns around DoW. Whether or not it would affect me if he played it (i.e, if it was just a 1 for 1 trade, or if I was going first with two activators did I want to open with an activator attack, etc), whether or not he could deal with my placed Lil' Iceman, etc. Ultimately the cautious play didn't effect the overall flow, because I don't see any point where I could have ended the game ealrier than turn 6 with more aggressive betting. Much more important was the Down But Not Out turn, which prevented me from having four missions ventured for the win while not giving him any extra cards.

Congrats to all the latest winners and good luck to everyone still needing more match-ups. Looks like I missed everyone tonight when I logged in this late evening. I'm trying to be in at least by 10 pm PST for those who would like to wait up for me (normal times for me are 11 pm - 1 am PST). Will try to be in even earlier Friday evening.
Think I've finally got everything working. MSN name is kfinneg@hotmail.com

Awesome. I've added you to my list.
Onslaught - do you use MSN, or are you exclusively a Hamachi man? I added your email to my MSN in the off chance. Hamachi doesn't seem to like my computer, I've had it before but had a lot of issues.

I'm normally up past 11P too. Last night was strange, being on so early...
Anyway, I should be up late tonight for sure (as most Fridays), and I'll see if I can sneak in a few games. This tourney has been more fun than expected! ;D

Any chance you can convince your cadre to join in on the next one?
It might be cool to have everyone in the forums participating. Especially if we keep the round robin format where we all play everyone else.

I need MSN names from ncannelora, onslaught and nate grey.
my MSN name is ncannelora@hotmail. I'm also on FB under that same name, and I log into the Hamachi with the same name (convenient having such a rare surname; thanks Dad! :) )
And, BBH, I might convince Ranerdar to play, but I don't think the others would. My mom doesn't have a home computer (she just uses her smart phone), one of my brothers only barely likes Overpower and mostly plays to hang out (despite his massive collection, because he likes to collect stuff), and the other brother who plays (a_noble_kaz) was so turned off by his experience on The Forum that I doubt I could convince him to join :-\

I've added you to my MSN as well, just in case I don't see you on FB.
I figure it never hurts to ask. Hopefully your brother can put it behind him and join in the fun. Even if he doesn't want to participate in the forum events, he might be interested in joining our game circles to play the people he hasn't been put off by.
Cheers!

QFT! I'll definitely ask ;)
Also, I have to confess, I'm incredibly distracted at work today because of my excitement about this tournament. Friday nights are Family Nights in my house (by my own prerogative), so I actually don't know how much I'll be able to play tonight. But right now, I'm a little obsessed. LOL

It makes a difference when facing down new players, that's for sure. It's too easy to jet jaded playing the same people over again. But new players with new strategies keeps it fresh.
I have plans myself tonight, and won't be at the computer until late late. But I'll in when I get back to see if anyone's around. I still have two matches to go. I'm looking forward to facing Onslaught, his deck is my deck's bane. Lots of nasty strings and a KO event. But I love a challenge!

Tonight's results for me. Played Nate Grey tonight in a 6 round Blood Bath.
Me - Dazzler, Team X, Maverick, Sabretooth (3 stat) Nate - Heroes For Hire, Sentinels, Beast:the Brute, Thing
Round 1: We both draw 8 with no discards, I had no defense so I placed my whole hand, Nate placed 4 cards. he bet 3 and I bet 1 and conceded.
Round 2: THE BLOOD BATH!! I discard a dupe 7 power card, Nate tosses a dupe Master Mold and dupe level 1 power card. We each place 1 card and Nate digs in to do some damage, I venture 3 having leech in hand and feeling cocky and nate bets 2. Oh what damage he does, he starts off with a 7E teamwork from the sentinels on Dazzler, it hits, follows up with an 8 S, it hits, follows up with a 5 F it hits as well. Bye Bye Dazzler and the 4E and 5I ally placed to her. I retaliate with Leech on HFH, nate plays Snake Marsten through his battlesite. Damn.
Nate's up again, and it's another teamwork this one against maverick. it hits as well. The 3 multi followup is blocked by 5A. My turn to fire back. 5I ally from maverick hits the sentinels followed by Bloodlust which is blocked and dangerous mind which is also blocked. Nate fires off The Hulk from HFH on Maverick and hits him again. Dazzler gone and now Maverick with 11 points against. I remember that I too have teamworks and decided to use em. Throwing fighting TW against the Sentinels that hits and following up with a 3I against the HFH. Nate throws a 7S power card on Mav, hits again. I Gamma Terror the Sentinels into a KO. Nate has me by venture now with 38 points to 17 so tacks a 1E to Team X. Bad luck for him I still have a usable teamwork that I play against HFH, it hits as does the 2S power card for the KO. I still have a 7F placed to Team X but it's not enough for venture and Nate passes. I play Legacy on Team X and then we both pass.
Nate now has 5 missions won with 2 left in reserve and I have 4 lost and 3 in reserve.
Round 3: EVENT: Down But Not Out
We both place what we can, I bet my last 3, nate bets 1 and concedes.
Round 4: I dupe 2 level 8 power cards. (ouch)and toss a 7E Teamwork. Nate losses 2 cards. Places Clobberin time. I have Kinetic Absorption in hand and Bastion to deal with Clobberin time, so I bet 2, as does Nate. I start laying into Thing. Playing a teamwork which is blocked by Hypersenses and the followup is a 1M onto Beast which is blocked with a 4M. Nate tries to Clobber Maverick, but I negate. I attempt to New Universe my way out now that I have gotten rid of Clobberin Time. But Nate negates me. He fires a Drop Kick at Mav... avoided with Government Operative. I throw a 1I ally at beast, blocked with a 1 and follow up with Wildcat Attack also blocked. Nate throws an 8 S power card at Mav and finally takes him down. I fire A-Next at Beast which is blocked and Nate concedes.
Round 5: 2 discards each, I bet 2 Nate bets 1.
I shoot a teamwork at Thing which Nate avoids with Infiltrate. He fires a teamwork back at Team X, I Wolvie avoid it and the follow up I play Kinetic Absorption. I hit Thing with Death from Above and follow up with a multi 4 that is blocked. He attacks with Fancy Dan and I avoid with Government operative. Throw Reaction Time at Thing and it's blocked with a Ninja (stupid Ninjas).
Nate then concedes.
Round 6: EVENT: Shockwave Rocks the World
I drew a mitt full of D. Getting Gaurdian, Confusion, Kinetic Absorbtion, DoW and no energy icons. Nate has 3 discards. I bet 3 for the win. First go I hit him with DoW, locking up any defensive activators in hand. He goes for Team X with an 8S, I block with KA and draw Web Headed Wizard. I attack Beast with a Berserk Attack that lands and follow up with Combat Armour on Thing for the KO, blocked with a 5F. Nate tosses an activator on his turn... (I just realized that that may or may not be legal with Shockwave in play, a ruling from someone would be great) I web head for another KA. Nate passes, so I play my remaining attacks winning venture in the end for the battle and the game.
Thanks for the great game Nate. I thought it was all over when you took Dazzler down in round 2.
Just Demacus left to play.
Thrilling recap, Matt! Beautiful comeback on your part. I currently stand at 1-3.
pretty sure that the Activator on DoW was a no-no because of the Event, but good sportsmanship let's it go. sounded like a good game, guys. i'm heading to bed, but i'll be up early. look forward to getting some games in :)

Oops! My bad. I'm still getting used to these pesky events. Grr! Had he not been venturing for the win, I would have conceded but I tend to let my opponents rip into me on the final round just to see what goodies they unleash upon me. ;D
me too, Nate. i don't think i've ever conceded a last battle with stuff to do. gotta fight it out >:(
Got my first game in laste night. Played Nate. His Strength beat-down deck beat me down. Lol I'm running a Femme Fatale's deck consisting of Black Cat, Domino, Storm:Neut and Zealot. As far as the matches breakdown, I was more focused on re-learning what was playable when and how then I was on who did what, when. I can say that it was a fun match, and a few new tricks (new for me) were eye opening. I don't see this particular deck doing overly well this tourney, but since I have't played against anyone in 13 years, I'm just happy with this oppotunity to take a few lumps :) Thanks to everybody who helped me get rolling again.
I was able to win my tourney match with Kyle, here's a small recap:
Turn 1: Equal placing on both parts, he bet one and conceded.
Me: 2-5-0
Him:0-6-1
Turn 2: He outplaced me, I bet three and he bet one and conceded.
Me: 5-2-0
Him: 0-5-2
Turn 3: His event to move all defeated missions to the reserve came up, and he had far more cards than me due to the previous turn. I placed in a way to maximize usefulness for the KO event that was lurking, and bet one/conceded.
Me: 5-1-1
Him: 2-5-0
Turn 4: KO event killed his Dark Beast with three placed cards, putting him behind on cards. I ventured three for the win and came ahead on venture in the end.
Thanks for the game Kyle, and if anyone else is looking for a match I'll be on Hamachi for a bit longer. I've tried messaging ncannelora a few times, but no response.
Finally pulled out a win, I beat kyle in 4 hands. After declaring to him "Good Game." when it was all over, he called me a douchebag. I guess thats how the world works...
Edit: Fell victim to some of breadmasters tricks.... lost in the power pack because he removed my all 7's. 6's and 5's....

That's right, I did. Everyone calls you it, behind your back... but you know that anyway. You should thank me for at least saying it to your face.
What you didn't tell everyone is that you "accidentally" drew a card, which I don't believe for a second... funny how Entropy Field ended up on the top of your deck, huh? You also tried to make me discard 2 cards placed to OTHER characters when you played White Tiger against Dark Beast. I had nothing placed on him, and no cards in hand, so he thought he could get me to discard cards placed to BRB and Donald Pierce.
So yeah, "good game". Douche.
Dont be a sore loser, asshole. I've never said anything bad to you.

bummer about kyle. sincerely, a good game deserves credit and good sportsmanship should always be returned.
also, i had a similar experience w/Breadmaster. We had severe issues in our first game, a game i likely would've won. i agreed to start a new game, where he used his tricks in the end to eek out a smart W. then he graciously agreed to a rubber match. we'll have to work that in later.
congrats on your own W, though.

Got my game in against Nate Grey. It had me sweatin' for a good bit! Here's the vague recap, because I'm keeping my true identity a secret (like Spider-Man ;) )
Starts w/no discards
We place a few
He ventured 2 // I ventured 2
We have a few back and forth w/no damage, but he plays a Draw 3 from his battlesite, no discards, so I conceded.
Nate 2-5-0 // Me 0-5-2
He had 1 discard // I had 0 discards
We place a few
He ventured 2 // I ventured 1 and conceded
Nate 4-3-0 // Me 0-4-3
He had 2 discards // I had 0 discards
We place a few
He ventured 2 // I ventured 3, He drew and discarded duplicate
I get some tricky plays going and I KO Beast:The Brute and he concedes.
Nate 4-1-2 // me 3-1-3
He had 4 discards // I had 0 discards
He placed 0, I placed 3
He ventures 1 from the middle // I venture 4, He drew and kept both
I pull out lots of tricks to get me through this one, and manage to wound H4H and he concedes.
Nate 4-0-3 // me 4-3-0
I have 0 discards // He had 3 discards
I place 1 // He places 0
I venture 3 FTW // He keeps his drawn card and ventures 2 from the top
I pull every last trick I have, literally, killing H4H along the way. I go on to win the Venture.
Nate 2-2-3 // me 7-0-0
Kudos Nate, good game.
ncannelora 3-2 (bios, demacus, drdeath25, onslaught left to play)
First to play every opponent! I win something in this Tourney at least. (is there a most dedicated ribbon or something)
Played Demacus this afternoon. It was a little dicey early on for me, but I managed to pull out a venture win,
Hand 1: No discards, we each place 2 and venture 2... this could get bloody. I start off with an Ally against Domino, blocked, followed up with Wildcat attack against Black Cat which hits. Storm attacks Team X with an Emotional Outburt, negated with Bastion. Attack Black Cat with Tracking Senses, hits, attack storm with A-Next, hits also hit Storm with Dangerous Mind. He attacks Team X with a teamwork, blocked with power card, followed up with 1I, blocked with Kinetic Absorption, I drew a Dazzler avoid (useless) I throw a multi 4 at Black Cat which KO's her. I am out of cards at this point and he has 3 left... but my lead in venture is practically insurmountable so I decide to ride it out. He promptly plays a Storm special and two Domino specials to spectrum Team X. Ouch.
we each lose 1 character but I won venture.
Hand 2: Event:Down but not out
We each had 1 discard and placed a bunch of specials. He bet 4 to my 1. I drew my 2 cards and hit an 8 F power card. I used my chance to go first to KO storm with an unblockable 8. He hit Dazzler with a 6 and I conceded.
Hand 3: Event x 2 I played Shockwave Rocks the World, he plays Lambs to the Slaughter
He had 4 discards to my 2. And we were off. He played an 8 at Dazzler, avoided with Government Operative. I fire an ally at Zealot that hits and follow up with Combat Armour which is blocked with Gaurdian Angel. He hits Dazzler with a 2S. I fire a teamwork at Zealot that hits, followed up by a 5A against Domino that she avoids. He attacks Dazzler with a 5I for the KO, I avoid with Flight. Dazzler hits Domino with Death From above and the followup 6A. He hits Mav with a 7F. I close out the battle by hitting Domino with Bloodlust.
no one dies no one wins any venture... we both do some damage.
Hand 4: Event - Miracle Worker (remove 1 hit per character)
We both heal up. but he has 4 discards again to my 1. We both place whatever we can. I bet 3 to his 1. he concedes.
Hand 5: Dem has 2 discards again. (horrible luck with the discards) I get both Power leech and Absorb Sound in hand. I bet 3 for the win he bets 2.
I lead off with Focus Energy on Zealot, which is negated with Bastion. He uses Alien Symbiote to remove a hit from Domino. I attack with a teamwork that hits Dom. The followup is blocked using tripwire so I take a hit on Mav. and then I hit Dom with an 8F. Leaving her 2 away from KO. He attacks Sabretooth with a teamwork that hits and I block the followup. I play Leech and drain him of an 8F, 6F and 3 multi. He plays Web Head. I play Absorb Sound with 0 results. He attacks Dazzler with Gamma Terror, blocked with 7A. I play a teamwork on Domino that is avoided the follow up KO's her. And that's the game.. he concedes and I win venture.
Good one Dem. Good luck going forward.
Final record is now 6-3
Hope it's good enough to get through!
Congrats Oscorp! At the very least, your 6-3 record clinches a top8 spot, so you're into the brackets.
I did have 1 question about your game, tough... when you attacked Domino w/PC follow up off your Teamwork, and she played Trip Wire so her PC hit you, did she also play Fall Into Place? I'm just curious, because your TW had a bonus on it, so in order for her PC defense to match your PC offense, she needed a bonus, too...
Not that it matters too much, since you won the game :P
lol... I didn't even think about that. :-\ I just took the hit. The wording on Tripwire seems sort of ambiguous about it.
Ruling from the crowd please.
Also did we change the bracket from top 4 to top 8?

Yeah, she would have need to boost the power card. Still still must be able to block the hit.
As far as I know, it's still top 4. But Breadmaster's the one to ask, it's his show.

Oh! I didn't realize we were only doing a top 4! I need to get my game up and up, then! :-[
And, with Tripwire, the Power cards must be equal to eachother
and her Power card must defeat yours, in order to work. So, if she has Fall Into Place played, or a BG/BH for the team, or CM, something like that to boost her Power card or reduce your bonus.

In theory, it's fun.
But if you put all the little stupid rules together, it doesn't work. Allow me to illustrate another example how how useless the 'official' rules can be:
The Tripwire/Ninja trap/Rock and Roll specials specifically say that the power card used to defend hits the attacker.
However, the rules makers at the time clearly worded the 'shift' rule with an unquestionably dumb phrasing. After shifting, the attack is now considered to be coming from the character the attack
was shifted from. So if you ninja trap such an attack, you must according the letter of the rules, hit your own character with the power card.
Sound dumb? It is. But I don't doubt someone thought that a shift/ninja trap combo might be too powerful and had to find a way to nerf it.

Still waiting to see the much anticipated Dr.D vs Ncan showdown. I hope that Ncan whips him to get some mild revenge for all of the insults and taunting he has been enduring on here.
Assuming Dr.D hasn't packed it in for the duration that is. :P

It's in the tournament guide. 'The Shift Rule'
It also gives the explanation about how shifted cards are shifted 'behind' cards in play. So BJ specials (charm), EB specials (Brood Spawn) etc. aren't affected. You can't shift an attack to an EB, it passes through and hits the target.
And yes, it applies to any shift circumstance, not just specials or the event.

It doesn't actually mention the event. If just refers to shifts. The event creates a shift situation, so the same rule applies.

Was able to connect to Onslaught with some help from drdeath25. Unfortunately our game seemed to crash near the end of round 2. Couldn't contact Onslaught after that, since he is not in MSN. Hope we can resume that game soon.
Trying to get my last games out of the way. Sent invitations today to demascus and ncann when i saw them online, and got no response.
Nate, you want to play?
BBH match report: I've already forgotten the details, the two main things I remember are: First turn no conceding/venturing event, I had one dupe he had none, he played Ghost Riders draw 3 and KOed White Queen/Beyonder. Turn 2 I think he conceded before battle. Turn 3 I bet 5 for the win knowing his battlesite didn't have a negate, I had a negate, Beast activator for Acrobatics, Morph Activator to copy Acrobatics, and the "no teammate" event in play, so my plan was do Acrobatics on both of my chars and negate his offensively played Lil' Longshot. Morbius' negate numerical broke this play up, which for some reason I thought might have the word "teammate" on it. I think the next turn I drew the KO event, and then lost by KO/venture to a Penance stare.
Ncannelora match report: He accused me of cheating after the game crashed, there is a really long log that I'll save everyone from reading here. Overtime from the forums was watching our match live and if he wants to give his side of the story later he can, but uh yeah. He would like to resume the match previous to a point where I've already shown him a screenshot of my hand and told him how I would win the game from there, but that's pretty dumb. I'm also not keen on replaying a match with someone who asked if I would like to give him the win because his imaginary recap (nothing in the game log supports this) has me drawing an extra card, so I dunno.
Bios: I played BBH instead of resuming with you since his PM said you were heading off for the night, hopefully we can reconnect later.
Got a win vs Nate in a quick 2-hand game.
Only Demascus, Ncann and onslaught to finish out my horrible showing in this tournament.

I was over at Onslaught's place today picking up my printed MARVELS set(HUGE THANKS AGAIN), and stayed a while to play some games and watch him play fellow forum members in the OPO tourney.
For the Ncannelora incident; Onslaught was being nice and playing casually, and was even willing to do a rematch until Ncannelora basically called him a cheater/hacker...
The reason Domino's tripwire worked was because he fired off the any-power teamwork. +0/+0 follow ups. Clean block was all I needed to trip. I am on MSN Dr.D I've been watching my window for opponents, but have not seen any activity from you, Ncann, or Onslaught.
Okay, come on people! This is a fun online affair with no prize or stakes, I really doubt any one is cheating. Friendly rivalry is all well and good, but I think the name-calling and accusations are going a little too far. (Yes, I am not guiltless on that front either, but I think it's time we all simmered down and just had some fun.)
Final Round Robin report for Big Bad Harve - 8-1
Onslaught and I met on the field of battle for the first time, in a match where my team did what it does best. Truth be told, I was expecting a total manhandling by his team, and possibly will should we meet again in the finals. Onslaught's team is one I have faced before by other players, and has always given my Trick or Treaters a little trouble. The massive chain attacks and KO event can be troublesome to me. Thankfully, the cards were in my favour this time.
As you all know, I was running my Max 6 deck of: X-babies, Ghost Rider, Morbius and Spider Woman with Krakoa as my site.
Onslaught has: X-babies, Beyonder, White Queen, 3 Stat Magneto, with Age of Apocalypse as his site.
ROUND 1:
LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER
My key event came up right off, and the Overpower Gods granted me a murderous hand for it. One discard apiece, a lil longshot for him and a level 2 energy for me.
He leads with A-next on Ghost Rider followed by Lil Phoenix on Ghost Rider. I let both connect. Risky, but my defense this hand is minimal, but I have a wolverine activator with a snikt to shift a key attack but other than that I want to save everything for the offensive and hopefully KO a character.
I retaliate with Blood Hunger against the X-babies. I'm hoping to flush that much more defense, because he certainly cannot let this card hit. He negates it with lil longshot! Flushed his negate! Better than I could have hoped for.
He hits Ghost Rider again with a level 2 strength. I again let it hit. I play Ghost Rider's draw 3, which hopefully he can't stop with his site. Success... I take three more cards. All keepers. I have him over a barrel now.
He drops an 8 energy power card on Ghost Rider for the Kill. Snikt shifts that harmlessly to the Babies.
I launch a Teamwork at White Queen. Hits, followed by a level 2 multi which also hits. He tosses a level 6 energy at Ghost Rider, for a total of 19 cumulative. He's hurtin'.
I retaliate with another teamwork, killing White Queen but the follow up is stopped by an X-man street prophet from the site.
Onslaught is out of cards and passes, and I still have 3 cards, enough for a spectrum kill on Beyonder - an intellect ally, savage combat and lil colossus.
With that done, we move on to.
ROUND 2
Onslaught discards a White Queen special and a TW only usable by White queen. I lose a lil longshot.
We place away, and he bets 1, I bet 2. He concedes before battle.
ROUND 3
3 discards for me, only 1 for Onslaught. We place a few each, and this time I bet 1, he bets 3. I decline to draw and concede before battle
ROUND 4
NO CARDS WITH THE WORD TEAMMATE MAY BE PLAYED
and
REMOVE ONE HIT FROM EVERY CHARACTER WITH AN INHERENT ABILITY
The event heals Ghost Rider up of that AP 7 and the Babies of that 8 energy, and Onslaughts' event only locks two cards, a Rescue Operation and a Teamwork. Again we place a few, but Onslaught surprises me by going 5 for the win! Uh oh, what's he got that can hurt me? Even with 3 discards, my firepower is substantial.
I draw three from his venture - bad luck, my miracle worker Alive event and a 2nd rescue operation are pitched.
He tosses Magnetic devastation at Morbius, which I block with a 4 multi, followed by a multi 5, which I stop with Thunderbird's Keen senses, drawing another card. It's a keeper. I retaliate with a 3 fighting on Magneto. He stops it with Acrobatics, forcing all of my attacks to the babies now.
Power Flux on Morbius. I let it hit. I return fire with a Living Vampire on the babies. He calls in Morph for the Power Mimic, copying Acrobatics and thus blocking off his team. I comment on a very nice play. Fortunately, I'm holding a morbius negate and have a lil longshot placed, so I'm not worried.
He tosses a 4 multi at Morbius. I let it land, and use Undead Stamina to remove the acrobatics on Magneto. He let's it happen, then promptly concedes before I can do any damage to Magneto.
ROUND 5
HEROES AVENGE MURDER
He KO's the X-babies and I KO Morbius, costing me a lone numerical avoid. Lots of firepower this hand, and card advantage. Time to go for it. I place nothing and bet 5 for the win. He draws his cards, one of his discards is a Beast activator, which tips me off to his defense.
I lead off with Lil Rogue to flush that negate, which he does. Now hope is that he doesn't have an activator with a pure avoid, so I can take an easy win. If so, I have to slog it out. I really didn't plan to win this round, I was simply betting to prevent him from conceding so I could kill Magneto.
He hits Spider Woman with Magnetic devastation. I let it hit. No follow up. I retaliate with Demon Chain, which he takes, followed by Penance stare, costing him a placed 7 energy power card, and the ability to attack. We poke at each other for a bit, before deciding that it's over as I still have lil longshot and can remove the 4 on Spider woman any time for the win.
And that is that. Thanks for the game Onslaught! Good to meet you in battle at last. :)
On a side note, it was brought up by Onslaught during our game when I played the AP teamwork that it was not an 'officially' released card. This much is true, but for our purposes they are allowed in the tourney. Just think of the classic inserts as 'Marvels' especially since the AP teamwork was slotted for reprint in the Marvels any way.
I don't want to speak for Breadman, but if you aren't using the AP teamwork because you weren't sure, I'd say add it in (if you're inclined to). But the decision is ultimately Breadmaster's. It's important to keep things fair.
I am now done. See everyone in the finals!
-BBH
I've deleted my post about my game w/Onslaught because I realize the futility of arguing on the forum. I've given my side of the story to Breadmaster; it seems likely that Onslaught has as well. I'll be content with Breadmaster's direction.

i looked at the documents regarding the ncannelora/onslaught match
it's a little harsh to say ncann accused onslaught of cheating/hacking. it seems he's concernded that there's a card in on's hand unaccounted for. he doesn't say how it got there. the dispute seems to be about the total pitched during the discard phase.
it seems this can be resolved by going back and resuming from the start of the previous hand. onslaught seems reluctant to do this, as he tipped his hand after the crash. from the chat logs, this seems to be an unsolicited reveal of your hand.
also, the issue about the unblockable magneto 11 for the kill (if ncann concedes) seems to be invalid. you both agree in the chat that it was already played and countered by x's 'no specials' special.
the only ruling i can see, is that you guys resume from the start of the crashed hand, play it out the same way, and resume from the crash. if ncannelora wants to concede based on the hand revealed, that's his right. it's pretty easy to argue that he'd never continue the battle anyway if the amount of cards in hand is correct. (iirc, onslaught pitched an 8 power card dupe, so ncann knew he couldn't win venture...why risk more damage to x?)
i'm going to say, if ncann is willing to resume, and onslaught is not, i'll give the win to ncann.
if anyone else has thoughts about this, i'd be glad to hear em. this decision is by no means set in stone (but time is running out on the tourney: ~1.5 days left)
Onslaught and I had a dispute in our first match. And ended up replaying the full game. I don't see why the same thing can't be done again in this case if one is concerned about the other having gained an advantage.
Alright Guys, Well I'm heading to San Diego in less than 24-hours. I have reached out to Demascus and Ncann, but couldn't find them on MSN this week, and got no responses when i saw them on Hamachi.
I wasn't going to make top 4 even if i win my last 3 games. I don't know how this is handled, but i would of really loved to play Ncann. Anyway, I guess this means i am out, unless someone contacts me tonight. Enjoy the rest of the tournament everyone, I will be back Monday with a report on the San Diego Overpower Meet-up.

@drdeath25,
How late can we play tonight?
the deadline is tommorrow at midnight (12AM Thursday morning)
or 9pm for you west coast guys
I think that we should make it 12 pm for the west coast guys as well... it's not like we're gonna play our playoff matches at 3AM eastern time.
Just to give them a little more time.

@drdeath25,
How late can we play tonight?
I am now home and ready to play anyone I still need to play. I am on MSN as kfinneg@hotmail.com
Ncann - I'll be available all night tonight until about Midnight.
Demascus - I really want to play you tonight also, I dont see you on MSN right now, though.
Demascus if you're reading this I'll be on Hamachi until 6 PM. Who else do I have to play by the deadline? I am leaving for San Diego in like 36 hours, but if I take my laptop I can get in some quick matches Wednesday night.
On a side note, when is the elimination stuff happening? I'll be out of town (for the Evolution fighting game tournament if anyone here knows what that is) the week after Comic Con, so this may all be moot. Either way, I'd still like to finish out all my matches, so PM me if we haven't played yet.

Yes, you can play an Activator against DoW with this event in play. In this case, playing the Activator is not considered an attack because the action does not cross over to the opponent's side of the table.
It's been great reading people's match reports. I really wanted to enter but all my bad experiences with OPO has really turned me off. I think the program is really showing its age and would greatly benefit from an update(even if it was just a MWS patch).
For instance over the years playing Magic online not on MTGO (apprentice/MWS/most recent incantation Cockatrice), there was never any issue trying to resolve any card effects. One effect comes to mind on OPO Best Laid Plans, it is kinda annoying to do since you have to remove each card 1 at a time, then place them back on top and even then I've had it crash on me. In those other programs it would be very easy to pull out 4 cards from your deck face down and put them back on top with no problems(there is even more effects in magic for that). I would hate trying to resolve an effect like Fateseal on OPO ;{.
Onslaught, I thought of something I wanted to ask you after watching your games last night. Since you are playing in this tournament and have a better understanding of the MARVELS than I do, which MARVELS cards have you been utilizing or cards you've seen someone play with great success?
I agree. OPOnline is not giving us fair matches. I just played Demascus and the game crashed twice during it. That on top of the cards dissapearing from powerpack/deadpile i'm not entirely sure all OPOnline games are 100% fair. Can't wait for Jack's prorgram
Win vs Demascus in a well-played game by both.
Ncann.... i want you. Catch me before midnight tonight. When will you be on tonight? I gotta play you in this... we have to ;)

QuoteI agree. OPOnline is not giving us fair matches. I just played Demascus and the game crashed twice during it. That on top of the cards dissapearing from powerpack/deadpile i'm not entirely sure all OPOnline games are 100% fair. Can't wait for Jack's prorgram
I let Beyonder get KO'ed by an invisible A-Next! Totally my fault though, he mentioned that he was placing it and I just didn't make a mental note.

I could make a MWS patch in like one day, I've just held off on it since it seems like the browser based version is pending. Aside from having less crashes/problems manipulating draw pile for stuff like Best Laid Plans, you would also never have to directly connect to an opponent again. That's the real beauty, no Hamachi or hoping someone isn't firewalled or anything, there is just a central server you join to play each other on.
I've always sorta brushed aside the faults of OP Online, but it's had so many critical impacts on various tournament matches so far. Stuff deleting itself in the powerpack, crashes, disappearing cards, disputes over how many cards are drawn (this is very easy to check in MWS since you have the whole game window log), etc. It just feels so archaic now, and pretty much all the bugs can be attributed to the fact that the game tries to have rules enforcement. Anyone still playing at this point probably doesn't need that, so something more open ended like MWS would be nice.
QuoteOnslaught, I thought of something I wanted to ask you after watching your games last night. Since you are playing in this tournament and have a better understand of the MARVELS than I do, which MARVELS cards have you been utilizing or cards you've seen someone play with great success?
I don't have any Marvels cards in this actually, I just grabbed the only deck that I had saved already in this newer version of OP Online. I had been talking to Hot Rod about Beyonder chain decks and threw a list together, so I'm just using this deck in the tournament by chance. If I had entered sooner and had time to make a deck utilizing the Marvels, it would probably be something gimmicky/exotic - just to see what is possible in the Marvels metagame. Maybe that Doppleganger deck I showed you? Anyway, I probably shouldn't have entered since it looks like I won't be able to finish all my games by the deadline. Just bad timing I guess, I've been packing, making travel arrangements for two different trips, meeting with the printer of the Marvels proxies, collating Marvels cards to make sure you and Deryl get your sets this weekend, etc.
For a tournament update, I was able to win vs. Demaucus and DRDEATH25, and now I'm off to find Bios.

Lost to Bios, very quick update before I log off and forget:
T1: no discards either player, I bet 3, use some placed cards and he Bastions, he concedes and loses 1 mission
T2: Three discards for me, I place as much as possible and concede, the following turn I have 1 (or 2?) discards, he has 16 usable cards for the turn and bets for the win, after he opens with a big chain (A-Next, Nightcrawler 3S, some powercard followups) and I let White Queen suicide, I get an Acrobatics/Power Mimic lockdown on Beyonder/X-Babies. He had a surprise teamwork in hand to play through this, but I defended both followups. He had a negate placed and so did I, I passed for the rest of the turn while he hit me with DOW, then offensively negated Acrobatics (which I defensively negated). I won by 1 venture due to Omniverse, despite being down like 5 cards at the start of the round. I was lucky to survive this
T4: I'm at 4-3-0 on missions but I only have 6 cards, he doesn't place Lil Longshot and places a ton of stuff so I think I can hit and run, we both venture 1 and he stays in, I do some chaining which he defends, and he concedes without using many placed cards after I killed DOW with Lil' Iceman.
T5: I bet 2 for the win even though he is up 3 cards, hoping to KO some characters with chains before he can use his placed stuff. I forget how this turn played out, but I did kill Spawn while he got the X-Babies. I conceded.
T6: I was counting on the KO event, but it STILL hadn't shown up. In fact, I don't think I've drawn the KO event at a relevant point this entire tournament! I was still in a good position if I could survive to the powerpack (two 8 stat chars against Ray/X-Babies/Nightcrawler). I bet one and conceded, he moved a few more up to be at 2-5-0.
T7: Ok I must have messed up on the turn recountings, because by turn 7 I would have drawn at least 56 cards and seen the KO event by now. I think Turn 4 and 5 were actually one turn? I'm misremembering something here, but this turn my no teammate event showed up, he ventured 5 for the win, and my three drawn cards were a dupe, something, and the KO event. I was a million cards behind, and he also had Guardian for Master of Magnetism and had finally drawn Ray's HQ.
Good game, and a well constructed deck by Bios: Zero discarded duplicates the entire game if I remember correctly, and just one discarded unusable (Spawn's PoI the turn after he died).
WIN vs ncann. Not only won by venture, but ALSO won by KO at the SAME TIME. And not one of my characters died. I may not have made top 4, but right now that made this entire tournament experience a good one. Well my games are gone. Good luck top 4!
4-5 not bad, but i could have easily been 6-3 if not for some bonehead mistakes. Next tournament I'll be more reaady.

Yes, you can play an Activator against DoW with this event in play. In this case, playing the Activator is not considered an attack because the action does not cross over to the opponent's side of the table.
Are you sure about this? It was always ruled back in the day that it was not allowed. The wording is quite clear, that in order to remove DoW you must

it was a good game. I made a greedy mistake at the start of hand
here's the full recap! (since I've now played drdeath25 & Onslaught, I don't mind sharing my team. It was my Muir Island version the OPD Challenge! ;D )
vs. drdeath25
Hand 1
No Negates may be played
both drew 8 // no discards
I placed 2, he placed 5
I ventured 2 he ventured 1
I played Iron curtain on H4H, landed
he played Ultimate Potential on Shadowcat, blocked w/Guardian
I played Gamma Terror on H4H, defended w/8A

me: 2-5-0, him: 0-6-1
Hand 2

I ventured 2, he ventured 1 and conceded
me: 4-3-0, him: 0-5-2
Hand 3
both drew 8 // he discards 2
I placed New Universe, he placed nothing
I venture 3FTW - his drawn card is kept <---
my fatal flaw, shoulda bet2 & used EN! he ventures 2
I play Leech on Spawn, strength, lands, discards 1M PC, 3S, Heavy Weapons, and Gamma Terror
He plays 6E TW on Colossus, lands
followed by 8S on Colossus, lands
I play 3E Ally on Spawn, lands <------------------even here, would've been a great place to concede!
Followed by Computer Genius - drew 5F ally, BLP, and Haymaker 2 discards! ugh!
he attacks Colossus w/3I, lands KO
followed by 6F on Shadowcat, landed - discard Haymaker and Smash Object
I play 3F Ally on Spawn, lands
followed by 4E AA on H4H, blocked w/5F PC
he plays 6F TW on Shadowcat, lands,
followed by 7A on Shadowcat, lands
I play Soulsword on Spawn, blocked by Protector of Innocent
he plays 11F on Shadowcat, blocked w/Bastion
I play Mindwipe on Spawn, blocked w/Rescue Mission
He plays BQ - retrieves his card
I concede
me: 4-0-3, him: 2-3-2
Hand 4
NO Activators may be played
NO discards // He places 5, I place 4
He ventures 2 from top

followed by 7E on Prof, blocked w/BG and 8E (will this change everything?! no. :-\ )
I play Death From Above on H4H, landed
He plays Black Knight on Prof, blocked w/1I - Drawn card is shadowcat AG
followed by 5M PC, blocked w/3I - drew Prof' AV
Played Pym Particles
He plays 8E on Prof, moved to Capt and lands
I play AV on X-Man, landed
He passes
I discard Shadowcat's AG and an Ally to play S TW on Spawn, blocked w/Protector
follow up w/4I on Spawn, blocked w/EE
He passes
I concede
me 2-1-4, him 4-3-0
This is my last chance. I know I have 10 cards in my draw pile, and it has at least 3 discards. I also know I have 0 Power cards in that Draw Pile. My only hope, is to draw all 10, have him go 3FTW, and Draw a 6I Power card. I also know he hasn't played his Leech yet. He has 15 cards in his Draw Pile, so he has a 10/15 chance to my 1/8 chance...Hand 6
Drew 10 each
I discard Siberian Strength, Mighty Metal, Cat Claws, and Book Of Darkhold
He discards 0
We both place 2
He ventures 3FTW - I draw... 2INT... maybe still enough? I hope...?
I venture 2
He played INT-Leech on Capt Britain, draining my INT and my hope. But, I never concede FTL.
I played I played 3S Ally on Spawn, blocked w/4M PC
followed by Supersonic on Spawn, blocked w/Flight
He played 7E TW on Prof, landed
followed by 7F PC on prof, landed

followed by 5A on Prof, landed
I played Loki's Evil Magic, landed
He played 1S on Prof, landed KO
he wins Venture and KO
me 0-3-4, him 7-0-0

Actually you conceded Round 2 after venturing. The events above are from Round 3. I didn't tried to negate Acrobatics, actually I tried to negate a Special card hit to win venture. Negating Acrobatics would make no difference to me, couldn't attack anymore.

You discarded 3 cards this round, including a 6i TW. We had an argument about you playing Lil' Iceman as an additional attack. You were right about that one. I conceded after that.
Quote
T5: I bet 2 for the win even though he is up 3 cards, hoping to KO some characters with chains before he can use his placed stuff. I forget how this turn played out, but I did kill Spawn while he got the X-Babies. I conceded.
You played the Event "discard all placed TWs". I lost 2 TWs placed with that, but was able to keep card advantage anyway.

Actually what you described as turn 5 and 6 are the same. Game ended at Turn 6. Some additional info: You played the Event "no cards with the word teammate" and you placed an Ally and a TW. I wasn't affected by that event. I didn't need to play my "draw 3 cards", you conceded first, as you realized you couldn't win the venture so far.
I really didn't get any duplicates this time. As no ray can strike same place twice, I lost to nate grey, discarding duplicates in every hand. Its a card game after all.
I won against Nate Grey in a real bloodbath, he defended two huge Beyonder chains and KO'ed the X-Babies before H4H finally went down, then I won a a venture of 4 the following turn due to his discards, and the final turn he KOed nearly my whole team before I won venture by a few points on the final turn.
QuoteActually you conceded Round 2 after venturing. The events above are from Round 3. I didn't tried to negate Acrobatics, actually I tried to negate a Special card hit to win venture. Negating Acrobatics would make no difference to me, couldn't attack anymore.
Right, in my mind I meant I had a negate placed to use against an offensive negate to keep the double Acrobatics lock going, but ultimately you used it to remove a hit (which I negated).
QuoteI really didn't get any duplicates this time. As no ray can strike same place twice, I lost to nate grey, discarding duplicates in every hand. Its a card game after all.
It all balances out, in my game against Nate Grey just now I don't think I discarded anything the entire match.
Wow, tremendous matches for me today, but ultimately ended up 3-6. Finished up my final three matches with wins vs. Kyle and Bios, followed by a loss to Onslaught. All great games, with my Strength team taking out their frustrations as best they could against my final opponents. You all do such a great job at writing up the details so I'll leave that up to you guys if you wish.
Thanks to everyone for all the great and fun matches, good luck to those who move on to the next rounds, and a big thanks to Breadmaster for organizing the online tournament. :)

Onslaught and I have agreed to start our match over from the beginning. We'll play some time tomorrow. I'll be trying ot get out of work early to get my games in before dinner. Will post results as they come :)
If you beat me and Bios, you'll make it into top four. You're in control of your own destiny here!
Bios is hoping for you to beat me, and then if he beats you, we have some sort of weird three way tie.
and I slide into third! Amazing watching all of these results come flying in. You guys were really busy last night. Looking forward to my semi final with Bread.
(just realized if Onslaught wins against Ncan that I am actually 4th) So looking forward to playing Sean or Bread then!
Good luck in your final matches everyone!
Unfortunately, my schedule doesn't allow me the time to play today. That being said, I'm going to have to forfeit my final match.

Actually, if Onslaught beats Ncannelora, then you two will be tied for third, but since Bios has 4 losses to your 3 apiece, there'll be no need for a tiebreaker as you both will be top four. But if Onslaught loses, and Bios wins his next match, they'll be tied for 4th, and if Ncannelora wins all of his next matches, he'll be tied with you in 3rd creating the same situation.
Good luck everyone! I'm eager to see the results. This should be interesting!

So right now, ALL games have been completed except 3 games featuring ncannelora. The race for the 4th seed will be an interesting one. Seems like Ncann vs Onslaught will be the one game that will decide it, unless Ncann wins, then there are crazy scenarious that can come out of ncann's final two matches.
....
Will Ncann Finish All of His Games? Will He make Top 4 with 3 Wins in his last 3 games? What happens if he doesent play his games Tonight? Find out all of this and more in the next episode of "Tournament Results"....
Also, for those not participating in the tournament, and wanted to know what deck I was using... My deck was H4H, Spawn, Xman, Silver Sable Original, Team Overpower, Shattered Image. The lack of a negate was devastating for me some games, and some big venture winning cards that i couldn't defend, clearly was my downfall this tournament. (Although i did win a hand vs ncann where he power leeched me to discarrd 4 of my cards, and then he played a draw 3 immediately after, yet i still pulled out the win that battle.). A highlight from an otherwise disappointing showing for me this tournament. This was alot of fun, though except for the few disputes (none of which involved me, I still don't like seeing anyone accuse anyone of cheating). Looking forward to the next one, Breadmaster. Sign me up already.
Good luck to the people still alive for a shot at top 4, its been fun. On to San Diego for REAL LIFE Overpower games.... with real THE MARVELS cards.... 'CAN'T WAIT!' (Sorry, Bart Scott if you have the copyrights for that phrase)
Doc Death Out Until Monday... Enjoy your forums without me while you can. The trash talking will return....

I think he said it was 4. I think he's in Atlantic time. Anyway, I got to work as early as I could manage, so I'd be off earlier. I was hoping to get here even sooner, but what're you gonna do? ya know? Anyway, I hope he sees this and can squeeze me in, because I'd much rather play him than have him forfeit to me.
the forfeit won't help you, ncannelora, as he will take a loss, but you get a no contest.
well, if I win my last 2, that'd make me 5-3, Onslaught 5-4, and Bios 4-5.
I'd still make the top4, because Onslaught would have more losses, right?
hmmm...you'd tie, but reviewing the rules i made it gets kind of murky
i said anyone who doesn't sign up for msn, gets an auto loss. however; both you and demacus have msn accounts now. going by those rules, you both get a double loss.
it was suggested extending the deadline, but that's not fair to the people who got their games in on time.
i guess the only way for you to make it now, ncann, is to win your last 2, and then win a tiebreaker against onslaught
getting your game in against demacus somehow, seems to be your best bet. otherwise, you'll have to beat a tough onslaught team twice to make it (AND bios...his team won't lay down)
well then hopefully I can reach out to demacus and we can get a game on this afternoon/evening. Onslaught might end up being my last game tonight, since I need to conform to Bios and demacus' time zone differences. I'll be sure to post any and all progress made.
If I might weigh in here -
Since this is a fun tournament with no stakes or prizing other than bragging rights, I'd say just extend the deadline. A clear effort has been made by everyone to get the matches in. It won't hurt anyone to wait a couple of days more for final results. The time zone differences have made some matches a little challenging... but not impossible.
I'm personally more interested in full rankings and battle reports.
As an experiment I'd say it was a raging success. It seems that almost everyone has had an absolute blast, tracking one another down, playing new people etc. There have been a few hiccups, but nothing that hasn't been resolved.
Perhaps for future events hold to the deadline, but for this one, there's no harm in letting it slide a little, especially since there are only a few matches left.
Just my 2 cents.

Or, let him actually forfeit, which would give me a win. He's "letting me bet7 and conceding" before we actually break out our cards.
what do you say?
i say i can't really allow it
how is that fair, supposing you make the top 4, and bump one the others out?
the only thing i can suggest, is getting approval from the top 3 (me, harv, oscorp) as well as the other players battling for the spot (onslaught, bios)
if all 5 ok it, i'll allow it. but it must be unanimous.
EDIT: based on the stuff i've read on the rules page, for the remainder of the tournament, additional attacks DO stack. i'll change it for future one's, but not this one. also, classic inserts are allowed. basically, everything in opo is allowed (except watchtower, but no one used that)
I agree with Harv about extending the deadline by a day or so. The original deadline was created with a player pool of 8 people and having to play 7 matches over 7 days. We added two more players and two more games after the deadline was created. Also it seems as though Onslaught will be gone after tonight and unable to play his playoff matches right away if he gets through anyway.
I also understand Bread's point of view about trying to keep everything fair for everyone who played all of their games on time. Bread you have been great through this. Having to play the organizer/ref/babysitter/rules judge/scheduler to everyone here and still get the 2nd best round robin record is great!
If we go with a no on extending the deadline then I would vote Yes on Dem conceding a victory to Ncan. Dem had a 0-7 record and giving Ncan an auto loss seems a hard price to pay and a crappy way to have to lose out of a chance to advance. He would still have to win out against Bios and Onslaught to get in, and if he can then he deserves to be there.
Just my 2 cents.
Great job again Bread. Thanks for doing all this.
no worries. like I said, hopeully I can connect with him relatively shortly. About to leave work in a few, then I'll be on the hunt >:( (lol, that's my game face, I guess)

I'll admit, I've been out of OP for a long time, I may be a bit rusty. But, the way I always ruled was that an "attack" was something that affected the opponent. To illustrate, I would say imagine a line is drawn between the players. There is your side of the table and there is your opponent's side of the table. An "attack" is anything that crosses that line and affects the opponent, one or more of his/her characters, the battlesite, any card in play on that side of the table, etc. This distinction was necessary to clarify other rulings and maintain some sort of consistency.
On your turn, you are allowed to make an attack against your opponent or you may play an offensive action that is not considered an attack.
The presence of the word "attack" in the game text of DoW is an unfortunate one. Perhaps this was an oversight on the Reserves as we actually came up with this card and Ron approved it for the expansion. You do not actually "attack" DoW with an Activator. That specific text was probably used only because we could not think of any other way to describe it in the limited space available. Playing an Activator against DoW should be considered an offensive action that is not an attack.
When scenarios like this came up after the cards were printed, we agreed that Activators should not be rendered completely useless if DoW and such an event or any other card are in play at the same time, whether DoW was already in play before or just came into play this battle. Additionally, one can argue that the Activator could have been used to retrieve a non-attack special, therefore the Event would not prevent its play, but because DoW is in play the Activator counts towards one of the four and the special remains unplayed.
Then there is the whole argument that the icons on Activators are completely meaningless and they should really be considered to have no icons. The only reason Activators have icons is because they created a reason for all those super common but useless character cards people had dozens of when you only needed one...

One of the great strategies is using DoW in conjunction with that event to cost your opponent a good chunk of activators. I certainly understand the flip side, but in the long run Any Heroes usually suffer against Sites without DoW.
The definition of 'attack' is nice and clear. But just out of curiosity - Does not a card with a lasting effect, that affects the 'opponent' (such as DoW) remain on the side of the table it was played on?
That's how it was explained to me when I first learned to play, and it made sense. Unlike 'targeted' attacks, which actually cross the battle line to affect characters, DoW or other cards like 'Snow Blind' or 'Lil rogue' are played from your side of the table and the actual cards do not cross, even though the effect it generates does. So, if I have one of those cards in play, my opponent wouldn't be able to pass with a negate in hand (for example) because there's something on my side of the table that can be negated, which makes the negate an attack.
This is also what led to the interpretation for DoW. I play DoW and it sits on my side of the table, creating its effect, meaning that it needs to be 'attacked' with Activators. Hence the assumption that if icons are locked down, activators can't be used.

But DoW is an attack, it crosses the line to the opponent's side of the table. It should remain in play on the opponent's side, ideally near the battlesite to remind both players that it is in play, and not returned back to the player's side of the table.
Snow Blind and Lil Rogue should both be considered attacks. The very mention of the word "Opponent" in the game text implies that it affects the opponent and is therefore an attack. They may not target a specific character of the opponent, but that does not make them any less of an attack. Your opponent is a valid target if the game text on the card reads that way. There was a big debacle in the first year or two of OP where a few cards were printed "Target Opponent" when they probably should have said "Target Character." (Scarlet Witch's AI)
To expand on Snow Blind, there is a very big difference between it and Professor X's Team is +2 to All Actions (besides the fact that one is -1 and one is +2). Essentially, they have the same kind of effect, a bonus or a penalty to the value of every numerical attack. But, Snow Blind is an attack and can only be played offensively because it affects the opponent. Telepathic Coordination may be played as an attack with another card, as an offensive action by itself, or defensively with a power card. Telepathic Coordination directly affects the player, so it does not cross the line and stays on your side of the table. The down side is of course that if you play it with an attack and any part of the attack is defended, then it is removed from play.
Yes, if you have Telepathic Coordination in play, then your opponent cannot pass with a Negate in hand.
No, if you have Snow Blind in play, your opponent is not forced to play a Negate against it and may pass if there are no other legal attacks.

Very classy, Bios 8) You're a great competitor, thanks for the exciting game.
Deets on the Onslaught match, still to come ;)

This is all good to have cleared up. Because, as I said, it was very clearly explained to me the opposite way (and even ruled on in tournaments that way) hence my interpretation of it.
It made sense too, that cards with no deliberate 'target' had nowhere to go (short of flinging them at the actual opposing player :o) so they generated their effect from my side.
The 'target opponent' wording was I believed all cleared up, every instance of it clearly means target, so there's no real confusion.
Since I have you - I am curious on your take on two other issues that have come up:
First: I am curious on another small matter regarding a 'Marvels' card and the usage of 'opponent.'
If, as you say any card that affect the 'opponent' is only usable as an attack, how come Invisible Woman's 'Conceal' is usable defensively according to lists? Was that an oversight? It does not conform to any standard of defensive actions (I know Marvels weren't 'official' but many of us use them because they're just so much fun!)
Second: Regarding BA coded specials such as Captain America's 'Super Soldier' or Red Skull's 'Evil Super Soldier' which can
only be defended by the listed specific type of card.
Meta rule #44 stipulates that : When a card specifies what cards may (or may not) be used to defend it, this includes ALL cards used in the defense.
So, if i can only defend a card with a special - I cannot use a power card boosted by a special, because the power card is not a special, even if the special is part of the defense. This is clear. Likewise, no universe, tactic etc.
Likewise with a JW or JZ (not be defended with specials) I can't use a special to shift an attack to block with a power card, because the special played in response to shift (even though a shift is not a defense) because all cards played 'in response' must meet the specifications.
Now the question - If the attack can only be defended by a special, am I allowed to use an Activator to stop it? If ALL cards played in the defense must meet the specification, that should mean the activator is not valid.
Is this true?

I apologize for missing last night's deadline. I had plans for this evening with my family, but due to a schedule shift at work, everything got moved to last night, and since I had to work early today, there was no time for a game after returning home at 11p.m. I should be floating around tonight if anyone's looking for a game.

No problem, man! In my tier list, Family > Overpower every time! 8)
Having said that, I'd like to play you. we were the last game for the round robin, I think. If I can manage a win, that will give me a winning record and a better one than drdeath25 (small consolation, since he beat me head-to-head). I'll look for you after my dinner, hopefully I can catch you ;)
Now, on to the recap w/Onslaught!hand 1
Best Laid Plans... (this was, perhaps, the worst thing for
this matchup...)
I discarded 1 // He discarded 0
He placed 3 // I placed 4 (including 2 to Colossus, should've had more foresight)
He ventured 2 // I ventured 1 and concede
me: 0-6-1, him: 2-5-0
Hand 2
KO EVENT - (I'd completely forgotten he used this Event) X-Babies and Colossus
I only discarded 1 // He discarded 1
He placed 3 // I placed 5
He ventures 2 // I venture 1 --- I def' should've conceded the hand here!
he plays 3S ally on ShadowC, landed
followed by IA from WQu, landed - So, basically, I played this hand to lose my HQ
I concede - D'oh!
me 0-5-2, him 4-3-0
Hand 3
He discarded 3 - JW, Beast, and 4M
I discard only a Colossus AC
he places 0, I place Cat Claws to ShadowC
He ventures 3FTW, I draw 5I
I venture 2
He plays 4E AA on ShadowC, blocked w/4I
followed by 4GJ on Shadowcat, landed,
followed by 3I JW on Shadowcat, blocked w/3I - and no follow up!
I played my ASPECT --- maybe I should've played her 5F first?
he plays 8E TW on Shadowcat, landed KO
followed by 4M on Cap B, landed
I play Leech-Eng on Mag, blocked w/Acrobatics --- at least I got his Beast out
he plays 6E AR on Capt'B, landed
Cap'B is 1 hit away from KO, so I play Pym Parts on ProfX
he plays 6I AN on CaptB, landed KO
I play AV on Beyonder, landed
He plays BS'6A CC on Prof, blocked w/6I - drew ShadowC AD, discarded
I play 1I PC on Beyonder, landed
He passes
I play 5I on White Queen, landed
He passes
I play New Universe --- this was a small reprieve. I should've played it sooner, and kept the 6I PC placed to Prof for the next hand.
me: 0-5-2, him: 4-3-0
Hand 4
We each draw 10
He discarded 0 // I discarded 5
He ventures 3 FTW - I didn't write down my draw, but it didn't help.
he plays A-Next on Prof, landed --- --- no follow up...?
I play BG
he plays 3F ally on Prof, landed
followed by 7A on Prof, landed
I play A-Next on Beyonder, landed
followed by 4EAA on Beyonder, landed KO ------- my only consolation
followed by 8E PC on WQueen, blocked w/BS'DY' of my placed AG - d'oh!
he plays 6E PC on ProfX, blocked w/AG
I play 7A+3BU on WQueen, landed
he plays 8E on Prof, landed KO
he wins.
It was a very quick game. My deck
needs to get to the Power Pack. I started losing people faster than my defense was coming. Since most of my defense comes from character-specific Special cards, I knew that losing characters to KO was going to hurt too much, too quickly. It was a chain reaction, from a chaining deck.
Well played, Onslaught.
---------------------------------------
My overall review of my showing in the tournament:I still need to play demacus, but if I win I'll end 5-4 and I'll very much consider my deck a success. It was a "highlander" deck, which I called OPD Challenge here: http://www.beenhereandthere.com/SMF/index.php?topic=331.0
The following are some things I learned from playing with it in such a varied field of competition:
1. About that Event... Best Laid Plans... indeed. As often as not, this backfired. It's nice to get to the Aspect and Pym Parts quicker, even the Book Of The Darkhold, but ultimately, reaching the Power Pack is my top priority with this deck. There are definitely other Events to help that more, I think.
2. Also, losing a character early can start a domino effect that devastates my deck. Again, there are other Events to help that.
3. Speaking of KOs, if I have to make a choice (as with my game w/Onslaught), I think Shadowcat must die first. She's a max-6, but more importantly, Colossus provides better defense to teammates. He has an LO, but he also has the AC/AG combination. Plus, with his Inherent Ability, there is some opportunity for him to simply take a hit, too.
4. Having Professor X alive into the Power Pack is my surest course to victory. I was a little surprised at how often he was
not targetted.
5. It was very nice to never, ever draw duplicates. It didn't always help, because my 8 cards were often still weaker than my opponent's 6, but it was still fun watching them drop card after card, while I kept my hands full.
6. Once I was in the Power Pack, this particular line up (thanks to the Inherent and Aspect), allowed me to
always have card advantage in the Power Pack. That made Pym Particles particularly important, getting there that much quicker and picking up no duplicates along the way.
7. Ultimately, it was really fun to use a deck concept that took so much flack, and succeed, even marginally. Despite losing games to both drdeath25 and Onslaught, my most common antagonists, I hope I still exceeded their expectations for a highlander deck ;)
Thanks for the tourney re-cap Ncan! I plan on writing a similar one after I'm all done as well. And it was great to see an original deck idea do so well. Better luck next time!
so since we have some time before the next round gets going, i thought i'd post the teams

If an Admin would like to move this side discussion to a more appropriate sub-forum, be my guest.
Invisible Woman -
I would not classify her Marvels card as an attack. It has the word Opponent in the game text, but that is only to describe what the opponent can or can not do. In this case, the opponent cannot do anything to Invisible Woman's team's placed cards. But it is not affecting the opponent, it is affecting her own team's placed cards, which then prevents the opponent from being able to manipulate them. It is not a direct attack at her opponent, it is a protection placed on her own cards. Hence, the name of the card, Conceal. From an editorial point of view, she is using her powers to conceal something from the opponent, as opposed to making her opponent blind.
This is also why it can be used defensively, but only against an attack by the opponent that would manipulate her team's placed cards. You cannot play it as a defensive action to an unrelated and unaffected attack, to save you the hassle of playing it offensively on your turn.
BA specials -
I would have to say playing an Activator would not be allowed if the card says that it can only be defended by a Special card. The Activator would be considered part of the defense and is not a special card.
This is one of the unfortunate gray areas of OP, since Activators were, as far as I know, not even a potential idea when this type of special was created for the original release. But, since these specials are not that common or powerful, perhaps they deserve that extra boost that you cannot defend with an Activator. Time it right, and it could be a well played final power type for a Spectrum KO. More power to it...

I had plans for this evening with my family, but due to a schedule shift at work, everything got moved to last night, and since I had to work early today, there was no time for a game after returning home at 11p.m. I should be floating around tonight if anyone's looking for a game.
Hey, i'd still like to get this game in if/when we can. drop me a line :)
@ Breadmaster - when are you guys gonna play out the Final Four?
oscorp and onslaught have to play a tiebreaker to determine the 4 seed (who plays bbh). onslaught is busy with comicon, so it'll be a while
once they play their game though, i'm guessing a day or 2 till it's finished...
Onslaught if you are back I would love to get our game in tonight. I am heading away from the computer for the August long weekend. Let me know. I will stay on Hamachi for most of the evening.
i had contact with onslaught earlier today
he said that the earliest he'll be available is next tuesday.
sounds fine to me. I will be back from my adventures by then as well.
I didn't want to be the cause of any further hold ups on getting this thing done is all.
Just let me know when I'm up, and I'll be here.
It bears repeating that I really liked the Round Robin format for the main rounds. Playing online certainly allows us that option where a live tournament is obviously more restricted on time.
Hopefully for the next one we can get even more players. The sheer variety was fun and interesting too - Breadman's report on the team breakdowns was great. Not as much duplication as one would have expected, especially in the reserve hero department.
On a personal note, I'm very pleased with the performance of my little team. It should be noted that despite my record, I wouldn't exactly call my matches a massive 'roll over.' Most everyone put up a good fight. Still, I'm tempted to take the Trick or Treater's into the live tournament next month. Just to see what happens. ;)
Cheers all!

he has to say "Most everyone put up a good fight." because my match was pretty hopeless from the start :-[

Hardly! You and I had quite the brawl, from what I recollect. I look forward to your revenge in the future! :)

Looking for Onslaught. I'm free all evening tonight and all morning tomorrow and most evenings this week. Let me know when a good time to get a game in is for you and I will try to be on Hamachi at that time! Looking to wrap this tourney up so that Bread can work on running another.
Apparently, I needed humbling - I lost a very, very poorly drawn game vs. Demacus, giving him his only W of the tournament :-[
I don't want to take anything away from his game - he played well - but the timing of his Events was straight ASTOUNDING! seriously, the NoVenture NoConcede, and the No OPD were truly devastating!
Anyway, good game, Demacus.
ncannelora: 4-5
Congrats to Demascus! Anyone who plays the "No OPD" event with a any-hero deck has serious balls. Glad to see him win, respect his deck alot.
I think we need to do a tie-breaker for 5th between me, bios and ncann because I really don't want to be remembered as on his level at this tournament.
World OverPower Tournament
updated results
big bad harv 8-1
breadmaster 7-2
oscorp 6-3
onslaught 6-3
ncannelora 4-5
bios 4-5
dr. death 4-5
nate grey 3-6
kyle 2-7
demacus 1-8
not that i was rooting against ncann, but i'm glad demacus got on the board. no shutouts, no clean sweeps.
next one should tighten up even more. i was thinking of doing it in september (alternating months with the toronto meetups)
any suggestions for themes are welcome. also, nothing is stopping anyone else from doing one.

Thanks Dr. D!
Just wanted to thank everybody for my first OP Tourney ever. Learned a few tricks and maybe next time just might be more interesting. :D
onslaught
oscorp has been on hamachi in the evenings (eastern) all last week and will be this week. please try to get that tie-breaker in. this thing is way overdue for some closure.
EDIT/ADDITION
onslaught, you have until monday night at midnight (eastern) to get your game in (that is, tuesday 12am). If you don't play the tie-breaker, you're out of the tournament
if that happens, oscorp, bbh and i will play each other once, with the person with the best record winning the tournament. if there's a tie, head to head record determines winner. if there's a 3way tie, i'll deal with that then
one day left Onslaught. You going to play or quit? you can pick a time and I will do my best to be online (after 6pm Eastern)
Hope you show! ;D
Uh, I'm not sure why this is such an issue. Breadmaster, didn't I specifically tell you on AIM that if you're in a hurry to get on with things to just seed me as fourth? That way at least the other half of top 4 can play and I'm only one match behind instead of two. When I brought this up earlier in the week you said that there was no rush, so I guess we have different definitions of "rush." I was out of town, and then ill, and now catching up on work, and blah blah blah I'm busy. If you had told me how important this was to you instead of making a deadline cutoff post or something I could have tried to squeeze a game in on Wednesday.
Also, lol at being DQed completely instead of having it be a game loss, aka I fall into fourth seed since this is just a tiebreaker match anyway.
Hey Oscorp let's just play our match right here. It's not an elimination game, I'll venture 7 first turn. How many did you keep from the five drawn? Trick question I concede before battle begins, drat I'm the fourth seed now. I'll get my 4 vs. 1 elimination game in before Friday.
it's an issue because this thing has been dragged out FAR too long
you've had weeks to play this game. if you can't set aside an hour to play a game, what can i do? oscorp is moving halfway across the country next week, and he's been waiting online every night to play you on hamachi. you're not responding or taking the time to set up a match.
if you want to 'concede' by betting 7, that's fine, but as i told oscorp, you have to actually play the game and do it. yeah, it's kind of pointless, but i wouldn't let dem and ncann do it earlier to protect your playoff spot.
Sounds like he's even busier than I am, I'll "bet 7" tomorrow then to save everyone time.
Thanks for playing Onslaught! We had a short and not so sweet game. Second hand I bet 5 for the win and couldn't pull it off. Third hand he bet 6 and did. Game over.
Looking forward to playing Sean in the semi finals.
Recap typing from phone so forgive the shorthand. . .
T1: He has Down But Not Out, places Leech and Absorb sound, I place out and concede
Me: 0-6-1
Him: 2-5-0
T2: Hideout Discovered doesn't effect him, I have a dupe and place Magneto 11, he bets 5 for the win, X-Babies negate Absorb Sound, Beast negate Webhead, play hand in a way that makes me not care about Leech (I had Shadowcat to avoid though), Maverick and White Queen bloody
Me: 2-4-1
Him: 2-0-5
T3: KO event, X-Babies and Maverick die, both keep 8, Magneto comes up with placed 11, he places two ally (one of which is just a 1 intellect), also places 2 strength, this is too many useless cards visible and I'm already up on cards so I bet 6 for the win, he keeps all 4 and I win venture in the end off of Master of Magnetism
ok, that makes the semis:
BBH (1) vs oscorp (4)
and
breadmaster (2) vs onslaught (3)
Someone has to post a semi-final tournament report by tonight, or else i call for a 4-way disqualification.
I believe that makes me the #1 seed.
This tournament is terrible.
nice alliteration ;)
i blame the organizer
ok, so harv and i played earlier today to determine the winner of this dang thing
since onslaught and oscorp were holding it up, i disqualified them. my little team that could managed to eke out a win
my squad did what they do best...drag it to power pack
knowing sean's team is max 6, it's not as important to get out my HBs.
we went into power pack, and he bet ftw 1st hand in, rather than dragging it out. i drew 2, with 1 keeper. it eventually crashed, but BBH condeded the game.
if anyone wants a more detailed account, i can post it.
thanks everyone for participating, and be on the lookout for the next one VERY soon
Yay for completion!
and congrats to Breadmaster!
Congratulations for winning this tournament and thanks again for all your work in organizing it. I had a blast participating in it. I got more wins than I expected. lol
