For the second time this week, I've had a deck with a particular strategy play out exactly as I had hoped.
The scene:
For starters, this was a Partners (2 on 2) game
(for details, see: http://www.beenhereandthere.com/SMF/index.php?topic=109.0 )
One of the tricky angles of playing Partners, is that your Events might be perfect for you, but could be crippling for your partner...
My team:
THOR, CYCLOPS, CRYSTAL, MAGNETO[R]
STEP 1 in my plan: Have Viking Pyre available when you draw this event:
Quote* GEN 13 VS. THE REGULATORS... <IM> {U} Gen 13 & The Regulators
No cards with the word "Negate" may be played this battle.
HAND2 - Amazingly, I drew Thor's Viking Pyre and the Event in this same hand!
STEP 1: completed.
-------------------------------
STEP 2: play Viking Pyre in that same hand, and win that same hand.
My partner and I were able to venture a little aggressive and bait our Opponents into playing, and I was able to play Viking Pyre as well. When I was playing the card, it looked like we had the 2nd hand won, which was going to let us go FTW in HAND3, so I went all in. I burned 41 cards out of my draw pile, making my partner very... concerned... but we did win HAND2...
STEP 2: completed.
-------------------------------
STEP 3: draw the biggest hand of your life and win the game with it!
HAND3 - I still had a 7E Teamwork on Cyclops, but he also had 2 hits on him already.
I drew
Quote* WITCHBLADE ON THE SCENE... <IM> {R} Witchblade
All Power cards may be played by any Front Line Character this battle.
along with
THOR's 12F*
CYKE's 9E*
CRYSTAL's EE* (already had her 8 & 9)
Iceman & Gambit activators (access to 10E and 8A)
and Power cards 8E, 7A, 6E.
* from The Marvels setWith that, I was already determined to go FTW, but then one of my Opponents drew this Event in the same hand:
Quote* File #061906.05 {C}
No cards with the word "Avoid" may be played this battle.
And crippled his partner...
While that took away my EE (and a few of my Partner's cards, too), it hurt my opponents much more. Needless to say (but still fun to write ;)), we ventured high FTW and won the hand and game mightily, as Thor would say.
STEP 3: completed.
Objective Completed.
I may never again draw a single hand that has
60 points of Venture in it, but it was awesome when it happened.
What's the highest hand you've ever witnessed?
To be fair. MY deck only has 1 card with the word avoid on it.
I know that, but your partner didn't and was still hurt by it. By that I mean, I beat up on him. In the end, it wouldn't have mattered, since my partner was using an avoid-heavy deck. We still would have won the Venture, it just wouldn't have been so bloody.
