Title: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: breadmaster on November 14, 2011, 04:48:59 PM
here are the ground rules

each player will play every other player once.

the top seed will get a bye to the finals

seeds 2 and 3 will play to determine who plays #1.

the round robin will be open for a week (i'm aiming for friday as the start, but we can start earlier if everyone posts that they've finalized their teams)

every card in opo is allowed (except watchtower, and no homemades/DC3 cards)

we will NOT be using sum deck

you can make unlimited trades with other players up to the start of the round robin

if you don't like your team, you can ask me to choose you a new one, but you're then stuck with what you get the 2nd time

if there's any more questions, ask away

THE TEAMS

breadmaster:

poison ivy, angel: horseman, black cat (3stat), starjammers

oscorp:

thunderbird, captain marvel (dc), doc ock (3stat), storm

bios:

professor x, cyclops (3stat), havok: mutant x, apocalypse (3stat)

demacus:

white queen, storm: bloodstorm, blob, xaos

steve:

polaris, angel: horseman, beast the brute, vision

some interesting teams here...i'm suspecting one will demand a new one though ;)

Interesting team set up.  I'll see what I can do with that, but if anyone's interested in Blob, he's the only sore thumb I see, but he HAS potential.

i'd trade blob for ivy...i could use his 6s to back up angels, and you could use ivy's 6i to back up emmas

the specials are unbalanced though, so your call

it's crazy how 3 of us got teams with unifying stats

Are we allowed battlesites or do we have to use Any Characters?
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: breadmaster on November 14, 2011, 07:15:45 PM
either

also, i forgot to mention in the first post

in the event of tied records, the tiebreaker is head to head winner

if it's a multiple way tie, whoever beat players with most combined wins advances

I'll trade Blob for Poison Ivy.

Hey guys,

I've been busy these past few weeks, but count me in, I'll find the time to squeeze a few rounds in.

Hey Oscorp, looks like Storm is a major odd-man-out. Can I trade for Storm and have 2 Storms on my team?

White Queen or Poison Ivy..?
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: breadmaster on November 15, 2011, 03:28:41 PM
dem: no, you can't have 2 storms on your team

i almost went that it was ok, because when i did the random draws, someone got 3 stat and 4stat super skrull on the same team, but i decided just to redraw for that one

bbh, sure. here's your team

venom, captain america (3stat), steel, catwoman (holo)

BLAST!  lol...  Ok.  I think I have a plan anyways...  It may not be a GOOD plan, but a plan non-the-less. lol

Dem I would have switched ya storm for Blob...  but I guess I was late to the Blob dance.

Steve you really want to trade me Beast the Brute for 3 stat Doc Ock?   I would be totally up for that.

My team appears to be ready.  I will not be available tonight, however, but should be wide open in the evenings (east coast) over the next few days.  I'd like to have all my games in before Thursday if possible.

and its over

techical difficulties for me and oscorp...will try again later
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: breadmaster on November 19, 2011, 03:22:24 PM
the reason i didn't want to allow the trade, was that steve indicated to me he wasn't going to play after all

since he is, then the trade is ok

(though i'm not sure what the benefit of trading brute for ock is...)
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: Oscorp on November 19, 2011, 07:06:13 PM
Doc has some good attack specials that would be an advantage over Beast if you aren't going to use the negate.
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: Demacus on November 19, 2011, 07:24:55 PM
Doc does have some offensive tricks that could get nasty.  I used to LOVE using Doc Oct.  He was on almost every deck I build for a LONG time back in the day.

EDIT: Breadmaster and I played our game last night. He is up 1-0, and I'm 0-1. Who's next?

Lost a tight one to Bread today, made a couple of bone head moves...  but he very much deserved to win.   Watch out boys, he's going to be tough to beat with there being so few negate characters.

yep, played steve, demacus and oscorp today

Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started

I can host if you set up Hamachi. Don't know why I can't host otherwise though...

watching this one from the sidelines makes me think 2 things:
1. I'm glad I sat out, as it seems I would not have done well.
2. It's making me feel better that I've lost so much to breadmaster in the past  :-[
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: breadmaster on November 23, 2011, 12:56:44 AM
i think this is a function of the team i drew

i've never used starjammers before, so i see why they're so loved/hated

as oscorp said, i got 3 'must negate' cards, and most teams only have 1 negate
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: Oscorp on November 24, 2011, 12:02:41 AM
Played BBH tonight.  managed to squeek out a win in the power pack.   Actually the game crashed when we were both down to the bitter end...  I just had storm with the Strength boost artifact and a strength and fighting power card hit.   He had steel with 18 points of damage and Venom with an intellect and a fighting hit.

The game crashed in a battle that he had bet 3 and I had bet 1 but I was probably going to win venture, setting him back...  he chose to concede the game rather than battle it out for who knows how long  (so really I very well may not have won at all)

Thanks for playing Harve!  Hope to get another game in soon!

okay, that just leaves dem and bios to finish their matches

breadmaster 5-0
oscorp 2-1
bbh 1-2
bios 0-1
steve 0-3

though it seems unlikey all the games will get in before tomorrow night

So I need Steve, Harv, Bios and Oscorp?
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: Oscorp on November 25, 2011, 09:34:36 PM
Played Steve last night and Dem this evening.  Lucked into an awesome first hand against Steve and Bet 4..  he had to concede.   Used my placed cards and a bad draw for Steve to bet 3 in round two and won the game.

Dem and I went to the last hand before the power pack, trading hits and KOs the whole way...  but I had built up a venture advantage and took it in the end.

3-1  Just Bios left.

Let me know a good time to be online Bios and I will be sure to look for you!
Title: Re: OPO cup 4: getting started
Post by: breadmaster on November 26, 2011, 04:55:05 PM
ok, that concludes the round robin portion of the tourney

final standings

breadmaster 5-0
oscorp 3-1
bbh 1-2
bios 0-1
demacus 0-2
steve 0-3

so oscorp and bbh face off, with the winner facing breadmaster in the finals

good luck!

Late update!!!..  I played BBH a couple of nights ago and lost out to him...it was a back and forth game in which we both had chances to venture for the win, with him winning in the end.

Thanks for the game and good luck to both you and Bread in the final.

Been a while since I've logged in. Finally got back my home computer service so I should drop in more often once more. Anyway, congrats to BM for winning the OPO Cup 4.  :)
