Title: so here\'s a question for those who make homemades
Post by: The Dude on July 17, 2010, 12:32:14 PM
What do you think is the best homemade hero you ever made? By best I don't mean most powerful, I mean they capture the spirit of the original source material while being both competatively playable and fun.

My favorite that I made is Scooby Doo of all things, I gave him 12 specials, yet only one is a numeric attack (because you don't see a lot of violence in a Scooby Doo cartoons) and only is a new effect; everything else I took some existing, if underused special mechanics, and applied to some of the great catch-phrases and hi-jinx of the cartoon series. And despite it all he's completely competative with the right teammates (generally Intellect Draw Decks, although hit stacking is a possible second team type for him).

So without further ado:

Scooby Doo 3-3-3-7 : Must have a minimum of 5 Hits to be KO'd (cause there's 5 members of the gang - :) ).

SPECIALS

"And I Would Have Gotten Away With It If It Wasn't Fpr You Meddling Kids" - Play with an Intellect Power card attack. If successful opponent must move a number of Mission cards from Completed Missions Pile to Defeated Missions Pile equal to value of Intellect Power card. (OPD)

Best Buds - Draw 2 Cards. Do Not Discard If Duplicate (OPD)

Big Appetite - Opponent must discard top 5 cards from Draw Pile into Dead Pile (OPD)

"It Looks Like We Have a Mystery On Our Hands" - For remainder of game, if opponent draws cards during battle, Scooby Doo may draw an equal number from Draw Pile. Scooby Doo must show drawn cards. May not keep duplicates. (OPD)

"Look a Clue" - Opponent must reveal 2 cards in hand chosen at random.

Mystery Machine - Scooby Doo may have an unlimited number of Special cards placed for remainder of the game. May not be duplicate.

Puppy Power ! - Acts as a level 5 Strength attack. Scooby Doo may play 1 additional Special card.

"Ruh Roh" - Scooby Doo may not be attacked by a card with a value of 7 or greater for remainder of the battle.

Special Guest Stars - Sort through Draw Pile and choose either a Teamwork, Doubleshot or Ally card and place in hand. May not be duplicate. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Wacky Disguise - Scooby Doo may not be attacked for remaionder of the battle. (OPD)

"Would You Do It For A Scooby Snack?" - Scooby Doo is +2 to all actions for remainder of the battle.

"Zoinks" - - Any attack made on Scooby Doo or teammate may be made on Front Line character of Scooby Doo's choice for remainder of battle. Character may defend.

Scooby Doo rules! Great ideas! My personal favorite is probably Bizarro, with his reverse powers:

Thank you! But what about your cards? What do you think is the best homemade hero you ever made?

Those Bizarro cards are really nice. Having the Power Grid rankings in reverse order on the Hero card is pure genius! I love it!

I didn't hear CCTelander opinion, but here is mine. Fin Fang Foom cards are an authentic portrait of the character. Hope to see more Fin Fang Foom cards in your next expansion sets!

Honestly? The single homemade card I'm the most proud of isn't even a character card, nor any of the Specials. The one I'm the most proud of is the Battleworld Location, since the artwork is 100% original. I did it!

If I HAD to pick a hero card, it would probably be the Nova Character, since I REALLY like the background and it's also 100% original. (The background, thjat is.)

OP LIVES!

Link 4 7 4 5
may use fighting power cards to defend any attack made on a female ally

Hyrulian Defender- attack made on teammate is made on Link

Hero's Arsenal- acts as lvl 4 e/f/s, may make add'l

Master Sword- lvl 7e attack

Mirror Shield- link may avoid 1 e/f attack

Triforce of Courage- Link gains +2 to all actions for battle

Hero of Legend- Link is +6 to venture this battle OPD

Gauntlets of Strength- lvl 9s attack OPD

Hookshot- target opponent may not attack or play specials for battle OPD

Somewhere around here I have the cards that my friend designed for me. They turned out rather well. Anyway, Link was the first character I ever made homebrew, and to this day the only character I've ever printed out and put in a deck!

All of the above are awesome!  I, too, would like to be able to read Battleword.  Scooby-Doo is masterfully done, as is Bizarro!  Wish I had something of my own to add, but I've never done more then come up with special names/mechanics and/or Character Grids/Inherants.

I would have to say my favorite is my Amalgam Universe Characters. I've completed several: Iron Lantern (favorite!), Bruce Wayne Agent of Shield, Darkclaw, Madame Cat, Green Skull, Super Soldier, Thorian, Ra's-A-Pocalypse, Mr. X, Spider-Boy.

Actually working on an Amalgam Site as we speak.  ;)
