Title: Gambit: New Sun
Post by: gameplan.exe on February 24, 2012, 02:44:02 PM
I'm going to create another Gambit home made variant, but I want some feedback. The only thing I know for sure that I want, is for Gambit: New Sun to be an 8E. The power he demonstrates, and what is mentioned in the books, seems to validate that pretty clearly. But, I want some advice/feedback about his other stats, including his overall cost and possible Inherent Ability (I recognize that most lv.8 characters do not have one, but some still do).

here's what I have so far

Gambit: New Sun
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8E
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4F
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4S
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4I
no inherent ability

So, this would keep his cost the same as it is now, at 20, and this would follow the form of the DC Holo variants. But then, they all had some kind of Inherent Ability...

So then maybe:
Gambit: New Sun
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8E
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4F
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4S
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4I
may keep duplicate 52 Card Pick Up Specials
or
may remove 1 Special card hit during the Discard Phase
(both have some merit through the story-arc)

Then I was thinking something more along the lines of how Jean Grey: Dark Phoenix was altered and I thought maybe this fits better:

Gambit: New Sun
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8E
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6F
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3S
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4I
no inherent ability

Making him a dual-grid again, but a little more expensive...

What do you guys think? Please give opinions on both, game-balance, and canon-accuracy (if you know the arc)

Hey, loved the idea! Would be a great partner to Spawn.

You know the homemaker has the power to make whatever he wants to... but since you asked for opinions...

I would not make New Sun as a Gambit variant, but as a separate character. And to justify my opinion I am using your own statment:

There's actually a very good reason why those are separate characters and not variants. Dark Beast and X-Man escaped the AoA, the others did not. So, there have been comics where X-man & Cable are together (fighting eachother or others) and there have been comics where Dark Beast & Beast are together (again, fighting eachother or others). There have not been any comics with Colossus & Colossus:AoA together.

That being said, I would go with "New Sun" (8E/6F/3S/4I) and no inherent ability. I think inherents for level 8 characters are unnecessary, unless they are penalties!

Once again, those are my opinions. The power to decide is yours!

I think the: 8E 6F 3S 4I no inherent ability, stat looks about right given New Sun is an unconfirmed Omega level Mutant.
