Title: Insuring your Overpower?
Post by: mattkoz on February 27, 2012, 10:46:50 AM
As I was laying on the couch yesterday looking at the box of my OP cards, it got me thinking what the replacement value would be. We have some puzzles, games, a few video game consoles, etc. but the OP collection is probably one of the most expensive entertainment devices we own!

Has anyone figured their collection into their homeowners or renters insurance or even put thought at what it would cost to replace your set if the boxes/binders just spontaneously combusted?

Given the rarity of some cards and what they are priced on eBay, it easily seems like a four-figure number in my mind.

I haven't, although I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Between my video game collection, all of my books and comics and my OP the replacement value probably exceeds my blanket coverage I have. And that's ignoring all of my furniture, electronics, etc.

It's scary to think about.

I havent either (hadnt even thought about it until this post), but my insurance company actually had us video all of our collections: books, comics, games, movies, etc etc so that if/when something ever happened we would have proof of what we had instead of wriiting it all down  8)

I've been meaning to do this for awhile. I figure it's the only way to document what I have.

Thats what they told us - we've (my wife and I) got some pretty extensive collections when you add in books and games, etc Videoing makes it a 1,000 times easier - especially when/if you continually add to that specific collection.
