Title: Complete Marvels Set
Post by: Jack on March 16, 2012, 06:33:54 PM
Using an archived site that has some Marvels info, I finally took some time to figure out what made up the new Marvels expansion:

Marvels (estimated at 275-300 cards) = 304Source: http://web.archive.org/web/19991104110203/http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Fortress/8612/news.html
QuoteMarvel Interactive has released a lot of new info on The Marvels at The Official OverPower Page. Here's a condensed version:

There will be random starter decks, with twenty Characters available. All of these Characters will be reprints, except for two: Angel and Wasp. The other 18 are: Spider-Man, Silver Surfer, Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Henry Pym, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Thing, Human Torch, and Dr. Strange. These Characters will each have 3 reprinted Specials, available only in the starters.
Angel and Wasp Specials will appear in both starters and boosters, as will the Characters.
Power, Teamwork, and Basic Universe cards will appear only in starter decks.
Starters will also have a Generic Location (like Marvel Universe, Omniverse, etc.), and there is one new Mission.
Booster packs will contain 79 Characters, some of which appear in the Starters.
Most of these Characters are reprints, with a 4-stat Galactus, Beyonder with "an accurate Inherent Ablility," and non-chromium Crystal, Black King, and Team X.
The MultiPower 5 and Any-Power 5-8 will appear.
Bastion, New Universe, and Power Leech will be reprinted.
The "Hideout Discovered" Any-Mission will appear.
Classic Accidental Inserts Avengers ID Card, Xavier Protocols, and the AP Teamwork will be in the set.
In addition, some of the Hillshire Farms promos will appear.

The only thing I'm really unsure of is the amount of Basic Universes that will appear. Given that BU's are horrible cards to use in most circumstances, they might have been limited to just the +3 bonuses.

The line that's bold is also confusing, though after giving it some thought, I think there might have been 79 characters available to collect in Marvels, 2 of which are Angel/Wasp, 18 have new stats and the remaining 59 are verbatim stat copies of characters. That would make the total exceed way beyond the 275-300 estimated so I'm really not sure what to think.
Out of the 90 "Marvels" specials, 8 of them belong to Wasp/Angel and 18 of them belong to characters mention above, leaving 64 characters that received new cards but aren't included in starters. 64 is only a bit more than 59, so I'm fuzzy with the numbers here. Though, if the number was actually 89, then the math works out because:
Nick's Marvels Specials page (http://overpower.ca/archive/Ripayuheadoff/op/marvels.html) only listed 1 Hillshire special, though there are a total of 9 in the set.

There might be more homebases too, I only listed one, there's a good chance that Marvel Manhattan was included as well.

What is "Xavier Protocols"?   :o

Also a random question for you. Do you have a scan of the Astroid M aspect "Orbital Hideout"?

Could you post either/both?  :)

Combing through some chat logs I picked up..

QuoteRJP Marvel:    Galactus will be 4-Stat.
RJP is Ron Perazza. So Galactus is confirmed again.

QuoteOPMarvel:    There will be one new Special for all re-released Heroes.
Confirms my understanding of the "79" number, though 79 still doesn't make any sense.

QuoteRJP Marvel:    No, we left the X-Men OP Characters out, but they will get at least 1 new Special as well.
Bingo.

If you exclude Captain Britain, Maverick, Multiple Man, Phoenix, Polaris, Sabra, Spider-Girl, Sunfire, Wolverine, X-Man, X-Men: Original Team (which is 11), you'll have 54 specials that need characters (includes Scarlet Spider). Add the 20 that appears in Starters. Add the Beyonder, Galactus, Crystal, Team X and Black King (5) gives you 79!
