Title: one of the craziest hands i've ever played
Post by: breadmaster on April 18, 2012, 07:05:48 PM
so i was playing bbh earlier

me: sanctum santorum homebase with anys.  strange in reserve, no mordo

him: brute/strong guy/vision/thunderbird(r).  outback battlesite

1st hand.  we both draw events.  no dupes

me-entropy field (no activators)
him-lambs to the slaughter (1 dazzler activator pitched)

he's pissed cause he lost a chance to play absorb sound, which oddly enough, my only energy icon was an unusable teamwork i had to place on surfer

he places ultmate sacrifice on t-bird (move all hits to tbird until ko'd)

my hand:

surfer AG (not great, but with the tw placed, maybe he'll attack surfer)
6s tw: (placed to surfer)
strange: AD (placed)
any: AA
any: leech
adam warlock: opponent discard 3 from hand
ghost rider: skeletal summoning (1 GR special from draw pile)
3s power card

i go first.  not much defense, but the only card that can really hurt me is beasts negate.  a tw might hurt warlock before i can search out GRs draw 3, but not much i can do about that

i attack strong guy with leech and declare strength.  he pitches 3 (5/7/6i tw)

bbh plays pile it on to SG.

i play warlock's discard 3.  he pitches a 4f and vision's double density (avoid 1 attack with strength icon)

ok, so he's out of cards, and i have: death from above, 3s, and skeletal summoning (and lambs to the slaughter!)

i search out the draw 3 rather than one of his spectrum hits (i figure if i'm lucky, i'll activate the tw and cripple one of his other characters)

i draw:  a 2f, AR any (7s), and 'no cards with the word negate' event

so i have 16 total points spread between 2 icons (the tw was intellect and energy bonus)

i more or less had the perfect hand for the situation, and landed 2 icons on vision and beast.

as a coda to all this, next hand he draws the remove hit any mission (heals one from vision) and i draw dow, which i can't place because of the sanctum homebase.

drawing the event with my draw 3 actually HELPED me, since dow would have been unusable that hand

that's quite the doosy!  8)

did you win, then, with such a good first hand? Also, what'd you venture off that?

it was lambs to the slaughter, so no venturing or conceding

i did win, but iirc, it was just before power pack

once dow was out, it was hard for him to recover. the dow test (discard as many activators as you want at once) is proving helpful, but that was to be expected

what we haven't been able to get a guage on, is whether it swings it too much in favour of the battlesites.  our games have mostly been blowouts one way or t'other, with sean taking the majority of the closer games

Now, now - I wouldn't say pissed... mildly perturbed perhaps.   :-\

It was an interesting game nonetheless.
