Onslaught

I wasn't able to catch the stream live, but it looks like Youtube streams automatically archive themselves for viewing. Awesome!

Maybe I am not seeing the teams correctly, but it looks like one of the decks was over 76 points. Were the sum deck rules not in effect?

Onslaught, Spawn, Scarlet Witch, old Spider-Woman?

chuu

definitely over the sum rule...

Congrats to Dan..

I believe his team was Mr. Fantastic, Professor X, Beast and Silver Sable in Reserve.

BlueFire

There was one deck that was over by a point.  Since he wasn't in top contention we just let him play on.  Dan and Marcel both went 7-1 and Dan won due to his head to head victory.  Myself as well as numerous others tied for 3rd.

I played Phoenix, ghost rider, marauders, Hawkeye with the citadel and infinity g.

Marcel and Dan both played any heroes.  Exact decks will be up within a few days.

We had 17 players and most importantly everyone had a great time.

Sounds like an awesome time.  Wish I coulda participated.  Oh well, maybe next time!  Congrats to everyone.

Can't wait to see all the different decks that were used.  Seems like an awesome time, wish I could have been there, even though I wouldn't have had a chance in hell at beating most of you guys.  I remember getting regularly beaten by Sean's Avengers deck....

Thanks to Bluefire for throwing this together and thanks to Jack for putting video up to watch.

As the Orange King would say:

OP LIVES!!!

Hello everyone.

This is Dan McGlynn for those that don't know. I know I haven't replied on here in a long time, but I thought now was very fitting.

I wanted to send out a big thank-you to John and Phil Keffer along with Jessica. I personally was very impressed by the venue and the generosity that was shown throughout the tournament.
A lot of appreciation was shown to the players that had come out to the first K2 Challenge Overpower Tournament, and additional appreciation to a special someone who has put in countless hours behind the scenes to keep Overpower running and expanding. Thank you Jack!!

I had a great time with Friday night's festivities. The booster draft was fun for pretty well everyone, and just a slaughter for all  :D :D .

On a side-note, I know that the other fellas and I were talking on the way home and were trying to figure out ways to make the friday night festivities just as entertaining and unique for the upcoming tournament in October that is a very strong possibility, but still working on the date, but I won't mention anymore as that is not up to me to say.

Hopefully without forgetting anyone in particular, I want to thank and say that it was great to meet new faces, and some people I have spent time talking with, but haven't met in person. Everyone was super friendly, and I was glad I had the opportunity to meet everyone.

It would be a great privilege to see every single one of you again. I can't wait to shuffle up the cards and have some more fun in the near future.

Thank you for a very enjoyable, exciting, and memorable weekend!!

Dan

BlueFire

Thanks for the kind words Dan.

We were very pleased with how things went in state college this weekend.

Thank you everyone that attended and helped make this a weekend that none of us will soon forget!

Photos and more details on decks and results to follow in the coming days as well as more video when Jack has the time.  Thanks again Jack!

BigBadHarve

I wish to repeat the sentiment - a big Thanks to Phil and John for setting up the K2 challenge. Their obvious devotion to the game, and making it fun for all participants is clear, and appreciated. The prize support was awesome, and everyone there clearly had a blast.

It was a fun weekend. I definitely hope to return next year if he repeats the event.

Between Toronto, Buffalo, and now State College - we hope to have 3 major events per year. With any luck, word of our upcoming Tournaments will reach those dormant players who have yet to learn of the OverPower resurgence!

Oh, to have a meetup with 30+ people again. Lets make it happen folks!

Up next - The Orange King's Peace Bridge tournament, part 2. That will be in Mid may - full details to be released when Larry has a location locked.

Onslaught

rucker73

Did everyone who played have to use physical copies of their Multi 5's, Beyonders and DoW's?

These cards are getting more and more rare/valuable and I wonder if it wouldn't have been wise to use proxies for some of these.

Was anyone who played handicapped by the fact that they didn't have a copy of one of these Ultra Rare cards that are all pretty well staples of competitive deck building?
"Wade! into action!"

BlueFire

Yes, all players were required to use real cards.

Being as this is a collectible card game, not collecting all the cards has always been a disadvantage.

All cards were available for purchase at the event.  Yes, a few certain cards were expensive (by overpower standards).  All packs were also available to find them the old fashion way.

If a day comes when we are unable to acquire very rare cards we may revisit the proxy idea.  I highly highly doubt that this will ever happen.  We are no where near this point.  I believe by the start of the event most if not all players had the cards they wanted.

Hope to see you at an event sometime soon.

Phil

Onslaught

Do you mind me asking the total cost of venue fees for the event? I've been looking at hotel banquet/conference rooms in SoCal (or potentially Vegas for cheaper flights) and they seem reasonably priced, just trying to peg what my out of pocket costs would be if I tried to organize a similarly large tournament.

BigBadHarve

Onslaught - if you do one in Vegas and there's enough notice, I may be able to attend. My girlfriend has been pushing me to go to Vegas for years, and fully supports my OverPower habit. A tournament in Vegas is just the right excuse. ;)

A few more with similar minded significant others, and you just might spike your numbers!
