Worst Inherent Ability?

the two worst that come to mind are for
Gambit "May keep duplicate "Charge Object" specials.
(really? keep duplicates of a useless card?!) and

Cyclops "May play "Fearless Leader" from Reserve.
(who, in their right mind, would A. put Cyclops in Reserve or B. use his Fearless Leader instead of his other crazy-good offensive Specials?!)

I don't know, Jack, that's a weak inherent for sure, but not totally useless and he's a character who by rights shouldn't have an inherent because he has a solid grid. (Too bad his specials don't match! Maybe his inherent should be 'may play any Green Lantern' special, then he'd rock!)

I cast my vote for Psycho-Man. "May play emotion box from reserve." Emotion Box allows psycho man to have an unlimited # of specials placed to him. So, yeah, I'm going to load up with his specials, in the hopes that I get Emotion box into play early enough that I can waste my time loading up these cards on to a reserve character and not use them until he comes up to the front (which will be soon if I have to lay out too many cards on to the reserve where they can't be used!)

What about Serpent Society? Nobody would ever use them in reserve... or use tactics in a competitive deck.

Or what about Forge, Ra's Al Ghul: Swordmaster, and Martian Manhunter? those are all totally useless... nobody uses basic universe cards or trainings.

agreed - even a character like Falcon who one would argue was "designed" to use otherwise unusable universe cards is STILL UNUSABLE in any competitive play!

The Dude

I'd have to agree on either Gambit or Falcon as the worst. The problem with Gambit is even if I am inclined to stick multiple copies of "charge object" in my deck the odds of both being playable in the same hand are pretty nil since they special requires at least a power and basic universe card with it to play: so in my 8 card draw I need to get both two charge objects, two non-duplicating universe cards he can use and two powercards of 6 or less in his main skills. Oh sure you can play it with a teamwork but now the odds go up even higher since he can only play one tw in each skill so thus you need the exact two right teamworks to go with the two duplicate specials and (ideally) 4 powercards to make it work so now all of 8 cards you draw have to be exactly what you need--and even then to play both you have to give your opponent free hits since you are using your entire hand to attack. It's absurd series of situtions that will almost never naturally occur in the game, irregardless of the fact that its not all that useful an effect to begin with.

Falcon's is useless not just because most people don't use basic universe but because even without the inherant he can play level 6 fighting univere cards and gameplay wise there is no difference between the 8+3 crossbow and the 6+3 laser gun so the inherant isn't giving him the slightest advantage. (and it doesn't even make sense since when has falcon ever used weapons of any kind in the comics anyway?)

The Dude

I think we can also include Black Canary in having a truly terrible inherant ability. Strategically she can already play the 5 or less Intellect ally which is (ironically) a stronger attack than the 6 and 7 I-ally cards. Comicwise I get they wanted her to play the Oracle 7-2 Ally, which while still a terrible inherant may have been defensible except they gave her a special card for Oracle that functions exactly like an ally card thus making her inherant both useless and redundant.

Overkill in the Image set has a fairly lame inherant too.

I think Black Canary's is still useful, though. The 5/3 is good, but suppose you've put her on a team with Batman, Robin, and Huntress. I wouldn't put the 5/3 in the deck, since only she could use it, but I would probably still use the 7/2 (assuming I have Huntress in Reserve).

Anyway, the point is, I'm a Gambit fanboy and it bums me out that he got such a useless I.A.

I tend to agree. Hello? 'May keep duplicate Kinetic Detonation' specials. How's that for a kickass inherent?  :D

Or even better - 'May keep duplicate FULL HOUSE' specials! (Too much? Perhaps, but you'd be seeing Gambit on teams a lot more, I gar-on-tee.)  :P

LOL. Apparently sir, I am not in my right mind. I just played Cyclops on a team in Reserve a few weeks ago against a friend that I was teaching to play.....and fearless leader actually gave me a 2 point edge to win venture one hand  :P  sure it may never happen again, but that one time it was awesome.
