How do you make character names have that gold-effect?

You know, the shading on character names that makes them look kind of golden instead of just yellow?

Anyone know how to do this or what the effect is called in GIMP/Photoshop?

It's a simple trick in GIMP, but I'm apprehensive about using it because it's tough to get it to look the same every time...

Step 1.  Go to the Layer that includes your text.

Step 2.  Use the select by color tool to select your text

Step 3.  Set the Blend (Gradient) tool as follows:
  > FG to BG (RGB)
  > Opacity 100
  > Mode: Normal
  > Repeat: Triangular Wave
  > Offset: Zero
  > Dithering: Yes (No clue what this does)
  > Adaptive Supersampling: No (Ditto...no clue)

Make a short diagonal stroke with the mouse in the middle of the text.  For reference, I acheived this effect by stroking from the left "Armpit" of the N in "Man" to the right "armpit" of the same letter.  You can mess around with it for different strokes.

The exact colors that I used for the one I emailed you are ffea00 (55/100/100/255/234/0) and dd891b (34/88/87/221/137/27)

That should make it pretty easy to replicate.
