Well, this post might get taken down, but here goes:

Finals were Marcel (OPGOD) Vs. Garion (HOTROD)
Marcel's deck was - Invisible Woman, Scarlet Witch, Inhumans and Dr. Strange in Reserve

I wasn't actually there but I think Garion used Lex Luthor, Dark Beast, Star Jammers, Silver Sable in Reserve - this was the deck he was testing..

#46
A Dr. Strange deck in the finals of a Canadian overpower tournament..... SHOCKING!

Props to Hot Rod on the Lex Luthor deck though, I hope he won, based on originality alone.

chuu

Oh ya, Garion did win, missed that part...lol.

Marcel was 7-0 going into the finals, and Garion was 6-1 I believe.

thanks,

Pat

Thanks, Chuu.

I'm really like Marcel's deck.  I think Invisible Woman is a quite powerful character and I try to create decks that abuse her inherent ability and defensive capabilities.  I had thought of Marcel's deck.

Thank you to everyone that attended this years K2 Overpower tournament. Our numbers increased from last year and as far as I can tell, everyone had a great time.

Congratulations to Garion and Marcel for both finishing the day with 9 wins and 1 loss. Garion won the game that mattered the most and took home the victory. Great job guys.

One final thanks goes out to Keith, my cousin John and my wife Jessica for helping make this weekend possible. Thanks guys!

Photos of the event will be posted as soon as they can be processed.

Until next time, venture well.

Onslaught

Overpower is so fascinating, it is now 20 years old (and ~15 years removed from adding new stuff to the cardpool) yet there is still room for innovation. When decks reach such a finely tuned level of optimization, it makes sense that Luthor has a place in the metagame. Even just a few years ago it would have been unthinkable to justify combining Thor + 8 Stat into frontline Luthor, but he has become viable in a format that is less about a venture winning arms race and more about finding ways to eke out incremental advantages. Kudos to HotRod, and I hope everyone else had a great time!

Marcel, I have to ask..... Why the conceal? I like the deck but ide take it out and run it at 56 cards. What was your thinking behind that mr god?

Hot Rod

The final match was truly epic.  You are all in for the best Overpower game ever recorded on camera in my opinion.

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations, I look forward to more God slaying for your entertainment.

Gotta watch out for those old bald guys!

Larry plays Conceal with his FF plaza team and I found it frustrating not being able to "blow up" placed cards: confusion can't work,  speed through is neutralized, no lethal tester allowed! I look forward to his reply.

OP GOD

Conceal.

The current meta game is revolved around discards :  for example say an average deck runs one discarder.(iceman, ironman, scarlet witch and many more .) Also , star jammers with raza as well as ghost rider who has both a raza and discard. Thirdly, power leech, events (hideout discovered).  I have just named a handful of tournament cards often found in many if not all decks in a tournament. ( I may have started that meta with my ghost rider and scarlet witch combo. -Ohio 2014)

So according to marvels meta- I can play conceal defensively against ANY of those earlier suggested cards. Protecting me completely.  However, for me this was not good enough and a little to circumstantial still. However, after playing a few test games with Sean (BBH). He pointed out that should invisible woman die, conceal is still in play until negated... This advantage is too much.

So yes I understand the down side, however in the current meta it is a major protection saving my negates.

Kudos hotrod. We will meet again.

The finals will go down as one of the best.  Insane back and forth.

I put this deck out for all, to advance the learning curve for new players.

Any more questions?

i know its just a level 4 special (that force many discards upon hit) so why not put it in the already damn nice deck?

OP GOD

Gorgon.

I am not a big fan.  First negative, is that it is only a 4.  Easily blocked and I didn't need additional strength icons in the deck.  Second and biggest negative, inhumans was a known first target.  With this knowledge I thinned them out basically allowing for an early trade of characters. In the tapes you will see I often trade them in a battle with one of their characters changing many a game.  Already having released usually 3/5 specials. So, unless I was running them and crystal (which I wouldn't). Gorgon gets the day off.
