I am looking to print some custom cards but don't know what type of card I should print on.

There has been some great custom sets that have been printed and on many different card types. What type of card was used for the official sets and what card have you found works well?

All my power cards were printed on 12 Point cardstock, i'm not sure what the originals were printed on but I think power surge was printed on linen card stock and people really like that one.

Do you use a specific type? I have noticed that some of the packs of custom cards I have are printed on glossy card, they are prone to sticking to each other. I would like to see if there is a card stock that is very close to the later OP sets.

usually UV gloss is added to the paper after printing, it makes the colors pop out more but does sometimes make the cards stick to each other.

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I would just resurrect this one. I wanted to share what i was tinkering around with tonight.

I used my printer at work to print 8 cards on a full sheet label paper. Now my printer was low on ink so the colors aren't quite as bright as they should be but they came out all right. I carefully trimmed them with a nice paper cutter and affixed them to excess Original OP cards. Since the Original cards were shiny stock and slightly smaller than 3.5 x 2.5 they fit well and you can trim the tiny bit of excess off with scissors and round the corners. I think they look pretty good. It's not for big jobs though, I figure all told it probably takes about 4-5 minutes a card.

Fronts with IQ and Original for comparison.

Backs

I did however discover that every Marvel card I've made has the font too small!!!!!!!!!   I was quite irritated, thinking I am going to go back an fix them eventually.

Good job, they look amazing. I would like to rebound on what you are saying to see if there is any website with good scans of most OP cards to print and fill up decks if needed? Thank you, kind regards.

Thank you!
The best I can think of.

They are not hi resolution but they are good quality.

I haven't tried this company yet but my brother and I are going to use it in the near future to have our own designs turned into cards.

I calculate if you ordered a standard "deck" amount of 54 custom cards printed in full color on 310g linen paper with a gloss finish it would be around $15 +$6 for S&H. So that comes to about $.40 cents per card and they will be professional quality cards.

Do you already have pdfs sized to fit that will work for that site? Are you printing Spider-Man vs. Wolverine on the back? Would love to hear how this site works out for you.

I have never used that site before. I do haunt the Boardgamegeek DIY boards a lot and the top 2 choices for your own custom cards there seem to be Printerstudio and Artscow. Common consenus is that Printerstudio does a better job but artscow seems to have more sales that make big decks more feasible to print. Subscribing to the Printerstudio and Artscows mailing lists will get you notifications of when they do have a sale on custom card printing.

No not yet, still making stuff. The website has a printing template you can download here: http://www.makeplayingcards.com/pops/pc-temp-guide.html

EDIT: forgot your other question about the card backs! I don't know yet. My brother and I play with our decks in colored sleeves, so we can't see the back anyways. Probably just do something simple than spend a bunch of time on the back design.

Does anyone have the template available for making custom cards? Previous link leads to a 404 error :/
