As soon as i saw that cover art i used for Tactical Disengagement i knew just about what kind of card I wanted it to be. I love those ones where you see a piece of art immediately brings a type of Special to mind. I'm still thinking about Maxx ideas.

In the meantime, Rob Leifeld's Youngblood. Man, Rob really couldn't draw very well (although in the last couple years he seems to have learned some anatomy and the ability to draw feet) and really copied other characters. Shaft was Hawkeye  and looked like Shatterstar, Vogue was Black Widow that looked like Domino, Diehard was a cyborg Captain America that looked like Deadpool, and Badrock was a young Thing. Link and Chapel didn't cry out to as direct copies of anyone though.  So.... Shaft, Badrock, Vogue and Diehard are direct copies of Hawkeye, Thing, Black Widow and Captain America Specials.  ;D

Youngblood   Badrock
Acts as a level 10 Strength attack.   AS

Youngblood   Chapel
Opponent must discard 1 placed card of Youngblood's choice   AI

Youngblood   Diehard
Teammate may avoid 1 attack of 9 or less.   AD

Youngblood   Link
Acts as a level 6 Energy attack. If successful, Opponent must reveal all cards playable by Target Character and play them open handed for remainder of battle.   RB

Youngblood   Shaft
Acts as a level 2 Fighting attack. If successful, acts as a level 8 Strength Power card.   EJ

Youngblood   Vogue
Acts as a level 7 Fighting attack. If successful, target hero may not use cards with Fighting icon for remainder of battle.   EL

If I can find a better picture of Link I will switch that one out. Oddly enough, I don't think any of the pieces of art are Rob's. Unless the Diehard or Vogue cards are new drawings of his.

i'm sure you didn't mean it as the pun that it is, but when i clicked on shaft's link, that's exactly what i got.  the shaft.   ;D

also: Link is Green Goblin's Revelations with an attack value added (makes it a little easier to defend).  i think it needs to be BZ instead of a new RB code.
Vogue is Black Widow's Combat Gymnast right down to the "hero" instead of "character".  it should be EL instead of GE.

Heh-heh! Didn't mean for you to get the shaft. Fixed that, you should be able to get the Shaft now.

Nice catches on the Vogue card. I'm not sure where that GE code came from, fixed the old wording too. It should be updated now.
Link was inspired as a cross of the BZ and HY cards. I'm going to stick with the RB code since Psylocke has one in my Marvels set already.

Ballistic's Specials. Nothing particularly special here. Mutant Agility and Uncanny Accuracy as titles for a little nod of inspiration since the Cyberforce guys were definitely supposed to be Mutants.

Ballistic   Cyberforce
Target Character gains +1 to defense for remainder of game.   MW

Ballistic   Cybernetic Implants
Acts as a level 4 Energy attack. May be used against Reserve, who may defend. If successful against Reserve, Reserve must skip a battle before moving to Front Line.    MU

Ballistic   Hi-Tech Arsenal
Acts as a level 7 Energy, Fighting, Strength, or Intellect attack.   AQ

Ballistic   Mutant Agility
Ballistic may avoid any numerical attack.   AD

Ballistic   S.H.O.C. Training
Opponent must discard 3 cards from Hand. Cards chosen by Opponent.   OC

Ballistic   Uncanny Accuracy
Acts as a level 6 Intellect attack. May be used against opponent in Reserve, who may defend.   AN

justa

i thought that cat Shaft was bad motha, but i'll shut my mouth.  can ya dig it?   ::)

definitely an anti-Reserve flavor to Ballistic.

I had previously done some Brass cards. Some of these are the same I think but some have changed. Curse gets one additional card.

Brass   Brass Virus
Target teammate may play any Brass Special cards for remainder of game.   MF

Brass   Internal Infection
Choose one Brass Special from Draw Pile and place in hand. Cannot be a duplicate. Reshuffle Draw Pile.   DS

Brass   Techno-Organic Weapons
Acts as a level 4 Any-Power attack, may combine with 1 Energy, Fighting, Strength, or Intellect Power card for a single attack.   AE

Brass   Unleash Arsenal
Brass may attack with any Special cards or Power cards in Hand for remainder of battle.   JR

Curse   Minions
Acts as a level 2 Strength attack. May make 2 additional attacks.   DG

justa

Brass Virus is the only old one 1 i had of those - the new art is an improvement.

i think Internal Infection has an internal infection.   ???  link problem again.

fennshysa

Fixed the link.

What do you think of this as a Special. "Target character, opponent must reveal 3 cards playable by target. Discard 1, place 1 in Draw Pile and return 1 to Hand."

1st takes:
- beginning wording could just be "Target Character must reveal...".  obviously the opponent is doing the actual revealing.  the "target"ing is to make the attack "avoid"able.
- the choice of which cards go where should be specified.  its less damaging if the defender chooses instead of the attacker.
- the order of the actions taken would need to be established, to account for what occurs in the case where opponent has less than 3 cards that are playable by targeted character.
- you're basically making opponent discard 2 from hand, so it should be an OPD.  that becomes a weaker form of OC, so why bother.
- i don't see a viable way to make it non-OPD with the given mechanics.

all that being said, only play testing will say for sure if its worth it or not.

Thank you! I wanted to make it work but it just didn't feel right. Your comments verify that.

Which of these should i go with for the art? It was a pain trying to find a Wetworks team picture where they were spaced correctly to fit on a character card.

Major bonus points if anyone knows where the second piece of art came from without consulting google.

justa

i have no idea where the art came from.

unfortunately, i don't think either card looks that great as a character card.  if i had to choose one , i guess it would be the first one for better resolution and less blockage.  this is good example of why deleting the icon names from the character card makes things easier for the card designer, and helps show off decent art better.  i won't belabor the point, because i know from previous discussion that you don't want to go that route.

so, to suggest an alternative solution:  use the DC hologram character cards as a template, and a picture like this one.  https://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/10837/5269825-wetworks+wildstorm.jpg
icons to the side with no Power type names.  IA (if there is one) on the bottom.  DC put the character name at bottom with the IA, but i've seen a similar design that put the name at the top (with no shaded strip blocking the art) and it looked quite good.
(i slid this pic into a vertical template i made in Visio (not Imgur), and the above picture fits great.  the only icon blockage is the big gun on the right, and there's enough room at the top & bottom to fit the name without losing anybody.)

hope this is of some help.

It's been a little while since I've worked on the Image cards but I've been busy lately.
I am going to do an alternative set of character cards based on justa's suggestions. Some of the art wasn't fitting to well on the regular template. But for now everything will be on the regular template.

Impact      1   5   7   3   16
May not be Spectrum KO'd with Strength Power cards.

Impact   Alien Growth Serum
Draw 3 cards. Discard duplicates

Impact   Brute Force
Opponent's team may not use cards with a Fighting icon for reminder of battle.

Impact   Cyberforce
Target Character gains +1 to defense for remainder of game.

Impact   Heavy Impact
Acts as a level 10 Any-Power attack. May be used against Battlesite. If used against Battlesite, damage counts toward Venture total.

Impact   Kruunch!
Acts as a level 5 Strength attack. If successful, target character must discard 2 cards or move into Reserve for remainder of battle. Opponents choice.

Impact   Metallic Skin Alloy
Teammate may avoid any numerical attack.

Lara Croft      3   6   3   6   18

Lara Croft   Ambush
Acts as a level 4 Fighting attack, may be played from Reserve. If successful, Lara Croft may continue to attack while in Reserve.

Lara Croft   Archaeologist
Choose one Artifact card from Draw Pile and place in hand. Cannot be a duplicate. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Lara Croft   Dodge
Lara Croft may avoid any numerical attack.

Lara Croft   Full Auto
Acts as a level 7 Energy, Fighting, Strength, or Intellect attack.

Lara Croft   Semi-Automatic Pistols
Acts as a level 4 Energy or Fighting attack. Attack is not affected by Special cards already in play.

Lara Croft   Tomb Raider
Choose one Artifact card from Dead Pile and place in hand. Cannot be a duplicate.

S.H.O.C.S      6   7   5   2   20

S.H.O.C.s   Buzzcut
Target Character must discard all Placed cards. Target Character may only have 1 card Placed to him at any time, for remainder of game.

S.H.O.C.s   Killjoy
Acts as a level 6 Fighting or Intellect attack.

S.H.O.C.s   Megawatt
Acts as a level 3 Energy attack. If attack is defended, S.H.O.C.S may draw 1 card from top of Draw Pile. Discard duplicates.

S.H.O.C.s   Misery
Acts as a level 5 Energy attack. If successful, may immediately make an additional attack against target's teammate using any card placed to target.

S.H.O.C.s   Psychotron
S.H.O.C.S may make as many Power card attacks as possible. Opponent may defend.

S.H.O.C.s   Shields
Avoid 1 attack.

Wetworks      4   7   6   4   21

Wetworks   Dane
Play during Battle. Each player may only have 1 Mission Card Ventured this battle. Move all other Mission cards back to piles Ventured from.

Wetworks   Dozer
Acts as a level 12 Strength attack. May only be played if Wetworks has Hits totaling 15 or more in their Permanent Record.

Wetworks   Grail
Acts as a level 7 Any-Power card. May be used to attack or defend. May not be combined with Universe cards.

Wetworks   Jester
Acts as a level 2 Energy attack. If successful, acts as a level 8 Any-Power Hit. Hit goes on Target Character's Permanent Record. Does not count for Venture Total.

Wetworks   Mother One
Team gains +2 to all actions.

Wetworks   Pilgrim
Opponent must immediately discard all Special cards in play that affect the "remainder of the battle" or the "remainder of the game."

justa

3 new characters to choose from - great!  i'll have to do some reading to "learn-up" on them.

best card: Lara's AQ - nice addition for her over the old set (3 were them same).  i see the IA and specials that refer to Tactic cards to really mean Artifact cards.

most questionable card: Impact's AD.  how does his skin alloy translate into protecting teammate?  i guess it could if he was sheltering another character, but the art doesn't show it.  nothing "wrong", just got me thinking.

fennshysa

Good point, i originally had a picture with bullets bouncing off of Impact but it was too small and couldn't be cleaned up enough to look well. I went with that one since it looks good and he looks like he is saving his teammate from being crushed.

Impact's bio read is interesting, a little more wild than the standard Cyberforc bio. The SHOCs were the bad guys who clashed with Cyberforce, enforcers for the evil Cyberdata corporation. In fact all the Cyberforce members used to be SHOCs at one point. I actually want to make a Cyberdata character set too. Just need to find something i can use for the Character card. I picked up the Cyberforce: Rebirth comics from a few years ago since the original collections are out of print but they were a complete re-imagining and not very useful.

Wetworks, i must confess i have never read an issue of.

I figured Lara needed some kind of bite, so the AQ.

Spartan's Strength and Intellect Ratings increase to 7 for remainder of game.

Buried Memories
On his turn, Spartan may exchange this card for any 1 card in Dead Pile and play it immediately.

Durable Android Body
For remainder of game, cards on Spartan's Hits to Current Battle with Fighting or Strength icons do not count towards Opponent's Venture Total.
