Deck Construction / Avoid 1 (power type) attack

How much use do you get out of single power type avoids like Carnage's Climb or Namor's Winged Feet? I often skip these in deck builds because 1/4 types seems like a long shot. I was wondering if my perspective was wrong.

Has anyone ever tried playing a game or tournament where you used only cards released up to a certain point?

I guess you might even try this as a deck building challenge, though if both players weren't playing that way, you'd likely be at a significant disadvantage.

In case you don't know what I mean: let's say you have a tournament where you can only use cards released in the Original and Powersurge sets. This would include any/all cards like universe, Any Character (I guess still called Any Hero), etc. No using "newer" specials even for old heroes.

I was wondering how that's turned out, if you have, and what stories you have.

We need a thread that plainly details which programs you need to download from where and which steps to take in 1, 2, 3... order (e.g., I don't know what Hamachi is). It seems there are bits and pieces here and there, but I'm asking for it all in one place. It might already exist and I've missed it, but consider this a friendly request.

I think this should also be a stickied thread once we have the instructions set.

General Discussion / Should Ally cards be Tactics?

I've thought this for a while, and I meant to post it here. I hope I haven't already brought up this discussion and forgotten about it.

It bothers me that Ally cards are universe. When there are so few tactic cards, and fewer useful ones, I don't understand why Ally cards were not designed as tactics. Given placing rules and allotted spaces, I think that would be a nice benefit.

Further more, I think involving an Ally is a tactical move. Sure it could be argued that they are in play in the universe like the materials in a basic universe card, but we already have Basic, Training, and Teamwork Universe. Why not Doubeshot, Artifacts, and Ally for tactics for balance?

Were there more tactics planned other than Artifacts and Doubleshots that never came to fruition?

General Comic Discussion / Marvel Comics app / digital subscriptions

I've been hemming and hawing about paying for some digital subscriptions on the Marvel app. I've read a few of the free comics on it, and I like it.

For me, digital has benefits because I'm not really into collecting and there's no space taken up in my closets. Also my best time to read would be when traveling and it's not convenient to carry multiple books with me.

Does anyone use this?
Is it good value?
How's the selection of material?
Is it easy to follow a story line to completion or do they only post certain issues and leave gaps?
Are current issues available? If there is a delay, how long?

It looks like several people have created frames for their custom specials. Is there a thread where they are all shared? I know Jack has scans of the actual frames, but I'm talking about the fan created ones.

If there isn't, can we get it going here?

Deck Construction / Thor and Iron Man

It makes me crazy that Iron Man's picture is on the Avengers Mansion location, but he isn't listed on the card.

I'd like to make an Iron Man/Thor team, but it seems it would require the X-Babies and a 16 character to be tournament legal. What about using 3 stat characters? Anyone have any suggestions?

It seems like a few posters here are "in the know" enough that this question might be answered.

What is the approximate production of each of the OP sets?


I see Original OP and Mission Control boxes on eBay all the time. That makes me believe that more of those boxes were produced. The original set makes sense, but MC is a little more puzzling, especially when you consider how rare it is to see Powersurge boxes. IQ is even more rare, though it was an important set for the evolution of the game. Maybe more of those were purchased and thus removed from the marketplace. I understand the rarity of Classic and X-Men since the game was in its waning years then, but how many fewer units were produced of those sets?

Does anyone have a handle on this? Even if raw numbers aren't available, what about numbers of scale for comparison? 

These are the things I wonder while spending hours in the car.

Where to Buy/Trade / Insuring your Overpower?

As I was laying on the couch yesterday looking at the box of my OP cards, it got me thinking what the replacement value would be. We have some puzzles, games, a few video game consoles, etc. but the OP collection is probably one of the most expensive entertainment devices we own!

Has anyone figured their collection into their homeowners or renters insurance or even put thought at what it would cost to replace your set if the boxes/binders just spontaneously combusted?

Given the rarity of some cards and what they are priced on eBay, it easily seems like a four-figure number in my mind.

When playing this card, since it effects two characters, can it be a avoided by either target?  I can't think of another card that requires two targets. It seems to me that you play it against one character and your opponent can use an avoid. If not then you can proceed.

Example: I play the CR in front of Iron Man. My opponent has no negate or Radar Warning available. But when I declare that I want to switch cards with Vision, he attempts to play Phase Form Avoid 1 attack. Is the CR now discarded, turn over? Or should I just attempt to switch power cards between Iron Man and 3rd front line hero?

Specific Cards / Spider-Girl Clever Fighter LY

I'm looking to put a Spider family team together.

Let's say I play the LY with a 6F and it's successful. I can now keep 6F duplicates in my hand, and even place a 6F to Spider-Girl and keep any duplicates in hand. It seems as though maybe I couldn't place more than 1 6F elsewhere, or at least more than one of them to my other front line heroes.

A 6F placed to Spider-Man would mean any duplicates could still be considered Spider-Girl playable. But placing to Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider would mean that the duplicates are a Man or Scarlet problem, not playable by Spider-Girl.

Does this make sense? Is my thinking logical?

Also, because of the wording on the card, once Spider-Girl were KOed, this card would be discarded. The 6Fs already placed or in hand would now become duplicate and need to be discarded immediately, no?

Deck Construction / Beginners tips for Battlesites

I've pretty much only played Any Heroes decks. What are a few basic tips you would have for a beginner battlesite player? I know the possibilities are nearly infinite and it depends on the location used, but I would appreciate some thoughts on:
  • How many activators do you recommend overall (on average)?
  • How many activators do you recommend for one character (to avoid dupes)?
  • How do you manage which specials are under there (i.e., what to play early, what to hold)
  • Since you only get one OPD, which OPDs are most useful?
  • Are there certain battlesites that are more offensive or defensive?

Can an Any Hero/Character be used as a follow up to an ally, or does it have to be a teammate specific special?
