Special Codes / Re: BK and activators
« on: February 23, 2019, 01:36:01 PM »
I have a quick question on Activators, which kind of ties to this topic.

Back when Monumental released and the "Use old hero cards as Activators" rule came into play for the first time, my friends and I were very confused by how to use Activators.

The rules of the time seemed to indicate that if you were making an attack from a battlesite, that you would actually target an opponent's character with the Activator Card itself, and not the attack you intended to use, until the Activator itself was either defended against or not, at which point you would swap the activator for the attack that you planned to use under the battlesite.

Is this accurate, or do you simply reveal the Activator Card from your hand, and swap the attack/defense from under the battlesite immediately, then play that card itself?

Under the implied rules at the time, cards like "No cards with a fighting icon can be used against (x) for remainder of battle" would effectively halt the Activator Card cause it would contain a fighting icon, thus stopping the incoming battlesite attack, even if the attack card in question didn't have a fighting icon on it.

In this instance, I would say no, as a level 1 Power Card augmented by a +2 to all actions special card is still a Power Card and not a special card.  The attack special flatly states that it can ONLY be defended by a defensive Special Card.

I was going to suggest Parasite for the Leech card.  As for Massive Muscles/Gamma Terror, you COULD go with Doomsday, Metallo, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, Kilowog, and I'm sure I am forgetting a few candidates.  As for the negate, Brainiac works, but what about the Anti-Monitor, just because?  :D

Deck Construction / Re: Gamma Gauntlet of Infinite Death

I've seen a similar style deck before, but it focused on Onslaught being the one you kept alive, with Scarlet Witch and New Warriors dying for venture and card draws.  Onslaught's Citadel might make for a nice battlesite, as you can then drop Cannon Fodder on a character that you don't want to die, forcing attacks to the ones you do want to kill/resurrect.  Most likely, the character with the IG.  Also, the Citadel brings Holocaust with a back-up negate which is playable by anyone, not to mention Beast's EB special.

New Fantastic Four expansion for Legendary adds some really nice stuff to the game.  Payment Powers for one thing, when you have WAY too many recruit points and no one in the HQ that really adds to the deck you are trying to build, new villain mechanics, which are interesting and unique (an not always as beneficial as they might seem,) and of course, new Masterminds, including Mole Man (whom I have not yet faced-off against) and Galactus (who my friends and I have failed to defeat 3 times already.)

The new Heroes are, obviously, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing, and the Human Torch, with a 5th hero, The Silver Surfer.  Each of these characters is fairly strong in their own right, (The Thing and Mr. Fantastic have great self synergy, if you can catch the right cards in the right hands.)  The Silver Surfer rare, is a non-attack, non-recruit card, but his affect doubles the amount of recruit points currently available, allowing for some heavy recruiting/payment power plays.

All in all, this expansion brings some nice additions to the table, and all for only $19.99 American (plus tax) which is a great cost for a 100 card expansion.

I signed up for Hearthstone a while back, but as of yet, have not been invited into the closed beta.  Post when it goes live, just in case I miss that one on the Blizzard site.

I never understood why Beast's "Analyze" is a negate, but Batman never had a similar card, by name or ability.

DR./DOCTOR OCTOPUS-Superior Foe: Opponent must discard 1 placed card of Ock's choice, and this special immediately acts identical to card chosen.  OPD  (PC)

OOooohhhh  I LIKE this!  Totally usable card for Doc Oct.

Card art that references the game, 1 would be Wizard in Top Hat and Tails, for sure.  The other would be...?

I'm using the advanced solo rules and am struggling to defeat Apocalypse. Lets just say that Apoc is nothing like his Overpower counterpart; the man is an absolute beast. His tactic that forces you to reinsert his card back into the Mastermind deck if its not the last card is lethal; I thought I had him on the ropes twice only to have to fight him again and again, which resulted in my loss.

I haven't tried to solo Apoc yet, but PREACH BROTHER!

lol  My brother and I were trying to take him down the other day and 2 games running we failed.  In the first game, which I believe was the Organized Crime Wave (drawn randomly... and a HORRIBLE combination with Apoc I might add) we were destroyed far too easily.  In the second game, (forget which scenario, but it wasn't that one, lol) we fought him to a stalemate, with me actually scoring 3 solid hits on Apoc, but again, that blasted tactic completely screwed us, as it essentially nullified one of the hits.  I was actually able to muster up a 24 point attack in a single turn and nailed him twice, but the second hit was that resetting tactic...  We did screw up a teeny bit though, as we only pulled 4 heroes randomly from the box instead of 5.  We were running Wolverine (Original set), Nick Fury, Emma Frost and Iron Fist.  My brother got totally screwed though, as with Nick Fury's rare, we finally had KO'd enough Shield agents to allow Nick to KO anyone with his rare card and Apoc KO'd the Nick Fury rare right off the top of my brother's draw pile.  Built it up for NOTHING!  He was not happy, and about 4 turns later the villain deck ran out with Apoc still grinning at us.

Still, I LOVE this game and I can't wait for November!

Potential Spoiler alert for those of you who read comics, but haven't read them in a while.  This is in reference to events from Amazing Spider-Man #700/ Superior Spider-Man #1-current.

Just a thought, based on the current "Superior Spider-Man" story that Marvel is running, how about a hero card for him.  Might slip nicely into this set.

I.A. May play any Doctor Octopus and Spider-Man Special cards.

I've been milling over that one for a couple of weeks.

And I got ya Basilisk.  I didn't re-read the entire thread before I posted that the other day.  Probably should have...

Hasn't Longshot always been drawn with only 4 fingers on each hand?  I thought that was part of his anatomy.  4 fingers per hand, two hearts, and I think there was something else...
