Captain Universe

I didn't bring this up before, at least not on the forums, but I managed to find a use for this card.

It's when you pair it up with Cyclops' Focused Force from Marvels (9 energy, cannot defend Cyc' with specials) to bring it to a 10 to creep over those cheap 1 to 9 avoids. That is probably the only logical use for the special that I can think of.

On the topic of Captain Universe, Pass the Gestalt mentioned something during our August meetup. He said it would be cool to have a +2 variant of Captain Universe, still not only allowed to pair with OPDs and the card itself is an OPD. That would help the HN 8's creep over to a 10 but that's it.

It's also possible to combine Captain Universe with Sabra/Wasp's 9 defense card to block a 10 as well as playing it with an AE (3 cards/attack is a bit of a waste).

Any other ideas?

I always liked that card. I haven't used it much, though. IRL I have 1 copy that I've kept in my "Originals" Binder (the original set, plus the 6 original Any Hero cards and Cap'U). In my earlier days of playing OP, my brother was a big fan of using it with AR's to try to nail any max-7 targets. of course, we didn't employ much of a 9-or-less-net back then, so it would still fall short of that ceiling. Still, if you're trying to keep dup's low, I think it can find a place hereandthere  ;)

(btw, I think the AE combo could still be worthwhile, if it's well timed for a Spectrum KO).

Also, I just thought of this - it could be used to hit Beast with Acrobatics in play, right?

Yes, it could be used against Beast's Acrobatics since it's made with a universe card.

breadmaster

you think the 9 or less avoids are cheap?

Jack

Indeed, especially from reserve.

Not to derail the thread, but how many characters have the ability to teammate avoid an attack from reserve?

off the top of my head 1-3

spider woman.  if you include marvels, dr strange (6 or less) and silver sable.

i personally love these cards.  without them, these 3 characters would rarely find their ways into decks

and i plan to add them to a few underused characters in the absolute evil set

but those characters are literally cheap (with exception to Dr.S, who's still cheap for a max-8). That's my feeling on them, anyway  :-\
