Does anyone know how this works, and would it be possible to generate enough interest in an OverPower revival?

CoS

I'd like to donate to a Kickstarter for a Online Webbased Overpower Client.

Features I would like to see:
1. Game Hall Lobby
2. Casual, Private, and Ranked Tables (that people can join)
3. Support for multiple formats: "standard"- overpower rules, Marvels Expansion, Powerbalance, etc.
4. League play - in different formats and durations
5. A "Merchant" where you can spend your credits that you earn in ranked matches or league play (upgrading your "my card" decks by purchasing packs) the merchant should be able to buy and sell singles as well as Booster Packs/Starter Decks
6. Foil rewards for winning ranked matches or league/tournamnets
7. and ELO ranking system for those who want to participate in tournaments

I know that this is all possible as I play on a server that allows for most of this for the Decipher Lord of the Rings CCG game.  It is just a matter of being willing to pay 100 euro an hour to the programmer to code for Overpower..... thus the need for a kickstarter.

I would be GLAD to be a backer for this project!

Cheers,
CoS

Alright, that covers the online game, but is it possible to get the card game back to design, printing and distribution through kickstarter?

(How much in U.S. dollars is 100 euro per hour?)

I've been in contact with the guy that both CoS and Bios had spoken to before with regards to getting a professionally written online OverPower program. I'm am still trying to have him provide us with an estimate of the total cost of the entire project. Once we have an idea of how much it will be in full, it will be easier to see who would be interested in contributing in the project.

I have to admit, it would certainly be very exciting to get a project like this off the ground!

It would be awesome for sure!... but there's just something about shuffling and drawing and playing cards that does it for me that clicking and dragging can't do.  Maybe it's just me... I also like books instead of kindles and nooks... a guy once accused me of hating trees... am I a tree hater?

I had some good conversation with some fellas from the Buffalo event and I believe its possible to convince Marvel to resume OverPower where it left off, and fix the stuff that made it inconsistent.  My friends call me Captain Hope.

captain hope!

get rid of the blue bomber pic, we got a new blue lantern!

TheTrooper27 - Hmm, that is a very interesting idea. I was actually in contact with both Upper Deck and Wizards Of The Coast to find out wha happened with the licence. I do believe it would be VERY expensive to have a licence to reproduce Marvel characters for cards on a commercial level. Do you have any information which the community could use as leverage? Or perhaps were to go from here?

I think a kickstarter could be used to make a set using the same engine but not real comic characters.
The kickstarter could probably fund making cards that aren't hero or specific specials, but just about any other card in the game.
The easiest license to apply for would probably be image, to make Image 2.

PowerBalance

TheTrooper27 - Do you think it would be possible to convince Marvel to make more cards? Or would we need to contact a professional card making company to get this to happen?

BasiliskFang - Image 2 would be cool. And perhaps make it easier to collect the set, hey? LOL. It was damned impossible to get some of the Image characters!

Here's the thing...

If they can make money on it, they will revive it.  I don't know who owns the actual game mechanics, and that's what I'm really interested in.

I have a really sweet idea, and a friend of mine is planning to work with me on duplicating the OverPower system with just enough tweaks that it isn't OverPower, unless I can just use OverPower, which is what I would rather do.  VS blended different card games to make a new one... I just need the basics of one game, and he says as long as I change the terms and icons, I can pretty much make a new game using the OverPower system without breaking any laws.  OverPower is a great game in and of itself.  My vision is that it would be Marvel, and Capcom, and Nintendo, etc, which is what OverPower could've been... a giant dimension crossing blowout!  How about this team:

Hulk, He-man, Zangief, and Gutsman in reserve.  Or how about Ryu, Link, Batman and Solid Snake on a team!  I'm taking it to the extreme, but this is really what it could've been.  My friends made wrestling OverPower characters, for crying out loud.  Nic did Phineas and Ferb.  You can make an OverPower set in any setting.

But if it can't be that, I still believe there's a great game waiting to happen using the mechanics that people would love.  It's a matter of marketing it.  Now, create characters for teams, powers for special card inspiration, commision artists, get someone to write some neat bios or a story for your set, and make a fresh new game.  This time with a research and design team, some guys who know how to work the kinks out of the system, and polish it to a coherent, user friendly, and highly addictive blowout... which is what OverPower is.  Period.  OverPower is second only to Magic, and that's because people fixed the parts that weren't right.  The rules have changed several times, in big and small ways.  Now it's where they need it.  Everything is based off of its own laws.  OverPower needed this facelift, not a bunch of STUPID metarules.  They were lazy with their playtesting and they had no research and design team, and this, I believe is the ONLY reason why OverPower didn't make it.

I do have information which the community could use as leverage.  Here it is:

We all still play this game.  We make up cards.  Cards have been printed from Canada to Australia, and people in the US and all over are eating it up!  If any of you doubt that OverPower could resurge, then why are we still playing a game that isn't worth playing?

Because it IS worth playing.  And it isn't about superheroes alone because VS stinks, Recharge stinks, Xmen stinks... they're all horrible games.  OverPower is amazing, and even the guys that created it didn't know how awesome it really was.
