Exceeding 56 cards in a deck? Pros and Cons

Every other card game I've played has one cardinal rule: NEVER EXCEED THE MINIMUM CARD BUILD.

However, Overpower is very unique from every other card game I've played, mainly when drawing cards.

Here's an example: my current deck build is 56 cards, and I'm STRUGGLING with including 2 more cards.  Years and years of deck building has told me this is something I should abstain from, but I've never really had another perspective from another Overpower player.

2 cards doesn't seem like much at first, but it reduces the rate at which a) cards are drawn (even if very slightly) and b) reduces the rate at which your BEST cards are drawn (again, even if very slightly).

I've mentioned this before, but I often have a hard time discerning the usefulness or some cards, and I'm wondering if it's worth the slight increase in deck size to include 2 (which I have deemed, at least) fairly useful cards.

From what i've seen, the tournament winning decks usually have the minimum number of cards in them since they want to get their cards out as soon as possible. In order to achieve the minimum amount of cards in the deck i think the deck builder has to determine exactly what the focus of their deck will be.  Having a versatile team is nice but doesn't work all the time in high level play.  if you watch the videos, you'll see that the winners usually have a deck with a specific goal in mind. Having said all that, most of my decks have an extra hand in them, this is because I tend to stall alot and try to drag out the game into the power pack :D

That's an interesting point. I've watched quite a few matches from various tournaments, and while some decks make a lot of sense on paper (as you say, they have a general goal), others are lost on me.  I don't have the knowledge of the game that others do, so sometimes there's something I'm not grasping.

Onslaught mentioned in passing that one shouldNEVER use more than minimum, but a player I respect has more than the minimum  includes  8 perfect hands  instead of 7 minimum to still be drawing specials when opponent in power pack.

I (absolutely!) don't believe in absolutes - so I don't agree that you should never exceed the minimum, but it is a good guideline. Look at the needs of your deck. Throwing in a few extra cards doesn't always hurt. The trick is to find that balance.

Thanks for the input everyone!  I guess I can always play test and see whether or not I'm happy with the results.

The 57th card is always worse than the first removed duplicate except for extremely high value cards. I would cut low level power cards before ever dreaming of adding a 57th card, but I don't think there are any decks besides Team-X that can even dream of being so stocked with value that it would ever be necessary. This is why non-duping universal staples like A-Next are so valuable, and one good thing about the game ending when it did is that we stopped receiving a stream of cards like that. Even 2-3 new playable Any Heroes would make decks vastly more consistent, and it's one of the reasons I think allowing the 6 Anypower teamwork is silly even in a Marvels setting.
