What PowerSurge would have been...

Going along side JohnL's topic, I went through a few of my magazines and noticed this little gem:

Daredevil would have received a 6 Fighting stat.
Blob would have received a 9 Strength AS.
The card borders would have been the same as Original OP.
No glow around icons.

The second card to the left, with HTM, my best guess is Scarlet Witch but the text doesn't resemble what it currently is.

There are a few others on the page, Ghost Rider and Scarlet Spider, but their texts resemble the current cards.

Yeah, what is that card? Looks like Teammate may avoid 1 energy attack.

On the first page of the first 'Monthly Venture' was the following information under '9 Really fine facts about Overpower': (Hey someone should scan and post all those 'Monthly' Ventures for old times sake, I'd volunteer but I am the touch of death to scanners. Literally. I don't think I've ever had a working scanner for more than a few days).

7. There were over 60 Heroes scheduled to appear in the first release of Overpower. Due to the odds of getting your favorite hero being low, the number was trimmed to 39 and most of the heroes later appeared in Powersurge and soon, Mission Control.

So there are probably digital files at least of almost all the Powersurge heroes and specials in the Original set format.

I would really like to get my hands on anything related to OP and scan them in. I've only seen one Monthly Venture posted on eBay in the past 4 years.

This reminds me that the original 12 characters in Mission Control were supposed to include Mephisto and some weird team...I want to say "The Justifiers" but that doesn't sound right. I think it was meant to be the team in red/blue on one of the mission sets. At any rate, it's weird to think that they were potentially going to introduce teams as hero cards long before Monumental came out.

I haven't found any of my Monthly Ventures except the one that had Beyonder in it, I'll try scanning it next time I visit my parents.

Ok I was close, it was going to be "The Jury" as the team card. Here is the newsgroup post from Steve D.

QuoteThe next Marvel expansion "Mission Control" will have 10 new heroes taken
directly off of the Mission Cards.
Nightcrawler
Morbius
Sentinels
The Jury
Morph
Mephisto (6,6,6)
The Alien Brood
Hawkeye
Quicksilver
and one other one (Doc Sampson I think)
Mission Control is an expansion set that will not contain any Power, or Universe Cards.
Just 10 new Heroes
Six Specials for each Hero
two new Missions
and Five "Event Cards" for each of the 10 Missions that will then be
available to play.

Interesting that The Jury were going to get a card! They had a cameo, of sorts, in the first Spider-Man movie, I think. When G.Goblin loses the military bid, then sabotage's the military exibition... I think that's what became The Jury.
