great take on Annihilus.  i've only seen him done once before (~7+ years ago), and characters do change over time.  while the grids are different, the flavor of the specials is remarkable similar.  and 1 card identical art and effect!  (Chitinous- and yours is better resolution.)
Dracula's card helps him much.  Hellfire's not so much.

I had a hard time deciding what to do with Cosmic Control Rod. Once i decided to ignore the artifact it got easier. There really wasn't much to pick for abilities with Annihilus.

I'm a fan of the DS specials. In Hellfire Club's case with the Madelyn Pryor Special allowing them to play Jean Grey Specials I would for sure pack one or two Inner Circles if they were on a team with Jean Grey.

Today's villains are......

Avalanche & Pyro      7   4   3   2   16
May make 1 followup attack to a Universe: Teamwork they play.

Avalanche   Quake
Acts as a level 10 Any-Power attack. May be used against Battlesite. If used against Battlesite, damage counts toward Venture total.

Avalanche   Shatter
Target Battlesite must discard 1 Placed card chosen at random.

Avalanche   Tectonic Control
Avoid 1 attack from a Battlesite. Avalanche may not be attacked from a Battlesite for remainder of battle.

Pyro   Living Flame
Acts as a level 9 Energy attack.

Pyro   Pyrokinetic
Acts as a level 4 Energy attack, may make 1 additional Energy attack.

Pyro   Pyromaniac
Play with any Power card attack. Pyro may make as many additional Energy or Intellect Power card attacks as possible. Opponent may defend.

An always useful card for Kingpin
Kingpin   Hired Help
Choose one Activator card from Draw Pile and place in hand. Cannot be a duplicate. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Magneto..... He didn't get terrible specials. But he didn't get a lot of great specials. I revised 3 and added 1.

I made a OPD version of the KH special. This one seemed appropriate for him.
Magneto   Evil Genius
Opponent -6 to Venture Total for this battle. If opponent has "Fatal Attractions" Mission, opponent -9 to Venture Total for this battle.

Magneto   Gravity Alteration
Opponent must immediately discard 1 placed card of Magneto's choice.

Magneto   Repel Object
Avoid 1 attack made with a Universe card. Opponent must discard 1 card from Hand. Opponent's choice.

Mutant Savior sounds like a positive thing but this card seems to fit Magneto.
Magneto   Mutant Savior
Opponent must discard 3 cards from Hand. Cards chosen by Opponent.

Here is something different. I toyed around with different versions of Dark Phoenix (and of course there is the Jean Grey: Dark Phoenix card from the X-Men set) but nothing ever seemed to work. Til I came up with this one. I like the idea of it, have never actually played it.
Somehow I think my original intent was only play OPD specials but i must have switched it.

Dark Phoenix      8   1   8   8   25
Plays as a Special of Jean Grey. Replace Jean Grey with Dark Phoenix and Immediately KO all teammates. May play any non-OPD Special.

good point on Hellfire's DS.  i hadn't thought of that one.
i'm still not comfortable with the dual-character bit, but i'll get over it.  LOVE the art on Living Flame.  i would have probably focused in more on Pyro, but the image in the flames would have been lost.
the OC is a great mechanic for Magneto.  i'm not sure that the name Mutant Savior & the chosen art really fit it, though.
Dark Phoenix is a great mechanic!  Better not place OPDs on Jean Grey.

Today we have....

Klaw      7   2   5   5   19
Klaw's Basic Universe cards count toward Damage and Venture Total.

Klaw's specials were actually pretty easy to design. Half of them were inspired directly off of the artwork. I love it when they are that easy. I knew just what i wanted disorient to be as soon as i saw the piece of art.  Sonic Blast and Sound and Fury were really easy to get an idea from the art too.
Klaw   Disorient
Opponent's characters are -2 to all actions for remainder of battle.

Klaw   Living Sound
Negates the effect of any 1 Special card played by opponent against Klaw only.

Klaw   Sonic Blast
Acts as a level 5 Energy attack. If successful, Opponent must discard all Activator cards from Hand.

Klaw   Sonic Construct
For remainder of battle, any Special played by Klaw or Klaw's teammates may not be Negated until "Sonic Construct" is Negated.

Klaw   The Sound And Fury
Acts as a level 9 Energy or Strength attack.

Klaw   Sound Converter
Acts as a level 4 Energy or Fighting attack. Attack is not affected by Special cards already in play.

Also more Spider-Man foes.........

Kraven      1   7   5   6   19

I'm pretty satisfied with this set of specials too.
Kraven   Agressive Parry
Avoid 1 Attack. Opponent must discard 1 card from Hand. Opponents choice.

Kraven   Calypso
Kraven gains +1 to all actions for remainder of battle.

Kraven   The Hunter
Play on Target Character as an attack. Attacks made on Target Character, including "The Hunter", may not be moved to any of Target's teammates for remainder of game.

Kraven   Jungle Predators
Acts as a level 5 Fighting attack. Attack may not be defended with a Special card.

Kraven   Kravinoff Family
Draw 3 cards. Discard duplicates.

Kraven   Large Caliber
Acts as a level 6 Energy attack. May be used against Character in Reserve, who may defend.

Kraven   Last Hunt
Acts as a level 12 Fighting attack. May only be played if Kraven has Hits totaling 15 or more in his Permanent Record.

justa

both decent characters.  name, art, & effect are not always that easy to match up.
have to mention, though... Kravinoff Family should be coded HQ.

fennshysa

Fixed the mis-code. Thanks!

Mephisto      7   1   7   8   23

Mephisto   Corrupting Influence
Acts as a level 6 Intellect attack. If successful, Target Character must discard 2 cards of opponent's choice. Cards may be Placed or in Hand.

Mephisto   Deadly Alliances
Target Character may not attack or be attacked for remainder of battle.

Mephisto   Lord Of The Netherworld
Acts as a level 8 Energy, Fighting, Strength, or Intellect attack.

Mephisto   Ol' Nick Scratch
Choose one Tactic: Artifact card from Draw pile and place in hand. Cannot be a duplicate. Reshuffle Draw pile.

Mephisto   Prince Of Lies
Play during battle on Teammate, before Teammate is KO'd. When Target Teammate is KO'd, Mephisto is +5 to Venture Total.

Mephisto   Your Heart's Desire
Choose 1 Special card not usable by Mephisto from Draw Pile and place in hand. May not be a "One Per Deck". May be duplicate. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Manderin   Arch Villain
Acts as a level 6 Intellect attack. If successful, Opponent is -4 to Venture.

Manderin   Ten Rings
Choose one Mandarin Special from Draw Pile and place in hand. Cannot be a duplicate. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Leader   Big Brain
Acts as a level 9 Energy or Intellect attack.

justa

i looked into doing Mephisto a while back, and i never saw a lot of your art choices.  do you pull your pics direct from the comics?  or a more pertinent question - do you know of decent sites for getting pics?
for example - i get mine from A) direct from the comic, B) comic vine images pages, C) google images, or D) deviant art (fan stuff).  i'd love to search more areas for a project i'm currently working on, and would appreciate the help.

i like mephisto, but the AQ seems out of place.  he SHOULD have a high level OPD attack, but AQ seems too straight forward - not devious enough.  justa OP fan opinion....

fennshysa

Usually off the internet. I've just discovered comicvine in the last month as a source. It actually seems to be the best. Then deviantart, comicbookgallery, and google image search. Sometimes searching an artist with a name on google will get you stuff that doesn't come up normally. Also I'll try to look at artists web sites at their portfolios. Sometimes you'll find extras and larger versions.

Also Tineye is great for searching for a higher resolution version of a cool but small image you may have found.

Sometimes i'll have to dig through my back issues box and scan and if i don't have anything. Or i'll try to find what issues a character has appeared in and i'll try to find the right tpb to borrow in through my library. I had to do that with Prometheus and Impulse and Darkhawks Shield card.

Right now I've got the Specials for the Mutant Liberation Front finished but i'm going to have to look through back issues for a decent picture of the team.

Got any suggestions for the Mephisto special? I can see your point on that one.

justa

thanks for the info!
i usually justa make do with what i can find as best i can.  i don't have the polish (short o) that you and many others have, and that's ok by me.  i don't make many cards.  my goals are to have fun with it - add in characters i've never seen done, play around with new twists in existing mechanics, maybe spark a few ideas in other (and better) card creators.

MLF?  what a unique idea!  i never would have thought of them.  besides Polaris (legacy character), Stryfe is the only one i've ever seen anyone take a try at.  team grids are tough - good luck.

as for Lord Of The Netherworld:  well, i refuse to suggest any mechanic that i've seen used for him before, so that probably skews my point of view.  but the title of the card screams "Dead Pile" to me.  my first thought was an 8 AnyPower OA OPD (see Maggot's Intestinal Fortitude).  or maybe that's just the desire to tweak mechanics talking... ::)

I like your stuff. And when i started i was trying to keep mostly just using cards that had been done before but in the last month I've found myself wanting to put a twist on things and use more new mechanics too.  I like adding in characters that haven't been done before but I'm trying to make some more locations to tie them to the old ones.

Stryfe will probably come in this batch of cards eventually too. I do have an awesome new mechanic for one of his special cards.

In the meantime couldn't find a good page to scan so I had to hack together my own team pic from various single shots. It's not terrible but not my best effort either. It doesn't look to bad printed on screen its so-so. Also, they might end up with one or two more specials.

MLF      7   5   5   2   19

MLF   Forearm
Acts as a level 7 Strength attack.

MLF   Locus
Avoid 1 attack. May not be attacked for remainder of battle.

MLF   Reaper
Acts as a level 4 Fighting attack. If successful, Opponent must discard 1 card of Opponent's choice from Hand.

MLF   Reignfire
M.L.F. may Place and play any Sunspot Special cards for remainder of game.

MLF   Tempo
Play when Opponent concedes battle. Opponent may not concede battle.

MLF   Wildside
Acts as a level 5 Energy attack. If successful, Target Character loses Inherent Ability and is considered to have no Inherent Ability for remainder of battle.

I wish i could have kept some of the pictures i had used previously for Nightmare as Sam Kieth's art for him was amazing. But the scans of early 90's comics just don't look that good.
Nightmare      8   1   4   7   20

Nightmare   Astral Realm
For remainder of game, cards on Nightmare's Hits to Current Battle with Fighting or Strength icons do not count towards Opponent's Venture Total.

Nightmare   Dreamstalker
Play during battle. At end of battle, Opponent may not move any Mission cards from the Defeated Missions Pile.

Nightmare   Psychotic Sociopath
Acts as a level 9 Energy or Intellect attack.

Nightmare   Terror!
Acts as a level 7 Intellect attack. If successful, opponent must move  1 Mission card from the Completed Missions Pile to the Reserve Missions Pile.

Nightmare   Warp Reality
Negates the effect of any 1 Special card played by opponent.

Nightmare   Your Worst Fears
Acts as a level 4 Energy, Strength, Fighting, or Intellect attack. May make 1 additional attack.

Mole Man   Really Big Monster
Acts as a level 10 Strength attack.

Mr Sinister   Genetic Engineering
Mr Sinister or target Teammate's Energy or Strength Rating increases to 7 for remainder of game.

Mr Sinister   Hidden Agenda
For remainder of battle, any Special played by Mr Sinister or Mr Sinister's teammates may not be negated until "Hidden Agenda" is negated.

Mystique   Lethal Operative
Acts as a level 4 Any-Power attack. If successful, Target Character may be KO'd using normal KO rules, regardless of Inherent Abilities or other Special cards, for remainder of battle.

Mystique   Infiltration
Target Battlesite must discard 1 Placed card chosen at random.

feedback has been pretty rare, so thanks.
i'd love to do a few locations, but i can't do the 3-D text for the title.  they just don't look right without it.

MLF - pretty generic, but a workable group of specials.  could provide some interesting team-ups.  you may call that character card a "hack job", but its infinitely better than anything i am capable of (see Planetary).

Nightmare - fantastic!  truly evil.  and totally unique as well (so far).

the Genetic Engineering link points to the Mole Man card.

fennshysa

Fixed the link.

MODOK      7   1   1   7   16

M.O.D.O.K.   A.I.M.
Discard one Intellect Power card usable by M.O.D.O.K. to draw 4 cards from top of the Draw Pile. May keep duplicates.

M.O.D.O.K.   Doomsday Chair
Avoid 1 attack with a Fighting or Strength icon. M.O.D.O.K. may draw 1 card from the top of the Draw Pile. Discard duplicates.

M.O.D.O.K.   Mental Domination
Acts as a level 7 Intellect attack. If successful, Target Character may not attack for remainder of battle.

M.O.D.O.K.   M.O.D.O.K.'s 11
Choose one Activator card from Draw Pile and place in hand. Cannot be a duplicate. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

M.O.D.O.K.   Psionic Blast
Acts as a level 6 Energy attack. If successful, Target Character must discard 2 cards of opponent's choice. Cards may be Placed or in Hand.

M.O.D.O.K.   Tactical Clairvoyance
Look at top 8 cards of Draw Pile and choose any 1 card. Put chosen card in Hand. Put "Tactical Clairvoyance" on top of Draw Pile. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Morbius   Swoop Down
Acts as a level 0 Fighting or Intellect attack. May only be defended by a Special card.

Omega Red   Carbonadium Synthesizer
Omega Red's Strength Rating increases to 7 for remainder of game.

Omega Red   Death Factor
Target character's Hits to KO number is decreased by 5 points for remainder of game.

Omega Red  Sacrificial Lamb
Omega Red may switch entire permanent record with any front line teammate.

Onslaught   Psionic Onslaught
Acts as a level 11 Energy, Strength or Intellect attack. Onslaught's team may not attack for remainder of battle.

justa

great art on modok!  a killer version, well worth the 16 pts.
Onslaught didn't really need that good a card, but it fits him.  (better art than your older version, too.)

fennshysa

Yeah, he came out pretty cheap. But the grid fit.

I got a little carried away today. With 2 Characters and 9 Specials for one guy.

Ultron      6   3   7   7   23

Ultron 6.0      5   2   6   6   19
May play "Self Enhancement" from Reserve.

Ultron   Adamantium Body
Ultron may avoid any numerical attack.

Ultron   Avengers Foe
Avoids all attacks from 1 Teamwork card, or target hero must discard 1 Placed Teamwork card.

Ultron   Daddy Issues
Ultron is +2 to all attacks against target character and +2 to defense from attacks made by target character for remainder of battle.

Ultron   Mechanized Might
Acts as a level 5 Strength attack. If successful, Target Character -2 to defense for remainder of battle.

Ultron   Plasma Bolt
Acts as a level 5 Energy or Fighting attack. May not be defended by a card from a Battlesite.

Ultron   Robot Army
Acts as a level 9 Fighting or Strength attack.

Ultron   Self Enhancement
Play with any Basic Universe card. Ultron's Power Grid gets Bonus in that Power Type for remainder of game.

Ultron   Ultron 1.0
Acts as a level 4 Intellect attack. May make 1 additional attack.

Ultron   Ultron Imperative
Play during battle. On your turn, after Ultron is KO'd, discard this Special to move Ultron from Defeated Characters Pile to Reserve. Play as normal.

i can definitely relate to that!

nice array of specials.  i like the lower cost character version - opens up a lot of possibilities (like Ultron 6.0, Absorbing Man, Forge{R}, and [pick one]).  you don't necessarily need to build around him.  it would be a shame to hide him in Reserve with all that nastiness.  and only 2 OPDs in the bunch.
