X-Men 2 Set

I am still working on my Image set and the Cosmic Overpower set but I've had a few ideas for a few untouched X-Men characters bubbling away in my head for awhile.  So, I will be working on quite a few different projects for awhile.
Some of the characters I would like to fit into this set are: Arcade, Aurroa & Northstar, Black King (Sebastian Shaw), Cameron Hodge, Exodus, Feral, Gideon, Magik, Meggan, Moonstar, New Mutants (old team), Random, Rictor, Selene, Spiral, Sunspot, Upstarts and Wolfsbane.  Maybe with some of the newer characters like Sage, X-23 etc... thrown in.

I like gimmick characters where I theme them for one particular task. Blaastar was good at making your opponent discard, Kang was about Events and Missions, Mimic about copying everything. When I got to thinking about Selene (Hellfire Club etc...) and the Necrosha story line I thought it would be neat to design a character where you benefited from your team getting KO'd. So her Specials are themed towards protecting Selene while benefiting from sacrificing her teammates. I'm not sure how usable she will actually be but I had fun making her.

Draw 1 card when Selene's teammate is KO'd.

Selene   Ascension Ritual   
Acts as a level 8 Energy attack, +1 for each Character KO'd this game.

Selene   Black Queen   
All attacks made on Selene are made on target teammate until teammate is KO'd. Teammate may defend.

Selene   Necessary Sacrifices   
Play during battle on Teammate, before Teammate is KO'd. When Target Teammate is KO'd, Selene is +5 to Venture Total.

Selene   Necrosha X   
Selene may play any KO'd teammate's Specials for remainder of battle.

Selene   Psychic Vampire   
Acts as a level 5 Energy attack. If successful remove 1 hit from Selene's Permanent Record.

Selene   Transmode Resurrection   
Play in current battle to resurrect any KO'd teammate next battle. Teammate is discarded at end next of battle.

first time i've seen her in the game.  decent grid - i might have given her an 8E for 23 total, but that's justa me.  the 8 would have made poor form of the IA, which fits your gimmick for her.  Goblyn Queen's Phoenix Lifeforce works well with this gimmick.
you could even make a Battlesite out of the back end of Necrosha, for Selene's failed resurrection.  Selene, Blink, Emma Frost, Dr Strange, Warpath, & Pixie.  the IA would have to focus on F & S ability; otherwise, Warpath would never get used.  (all the others are energy characters.)  Blindfold or Husk were excluded because i've never seen them done for OP.

Energy Power Grid Rating is 8 if The Splintered Realms is your Homebase.

Magik   Darkchilde   
Acts as a level 9 Energy attack. If successful, Magik or Magik's teammates may not defend Magik with Special cards for remainder of game.

Magik   Dual Nature   
Acts as a level 7 Any-Power card. May be used to attack or defend. May not be combined with Universe cards.

Magik   Mistress Of Limbo   
Acts as a level 5 Intellect attack. If successful, Magik may sort through Draw Pile, select any Aspect card and play it immediately. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Magik   Sorceress   
Shuffle your Power Pack. Draw cards until you have 2 cards playable by Magik. Add those 2 cards to your Venture Total for this battle.

Magik   Soulsword   
Acts as a level 7 Energy or Fighting attack. Attack not affected by Special cards already in play.

Couldn't quite find the picture i wanted for this one. Had about 4 Meh choices went with this one as the best.
Magik   Stepping Discs   
Switch your Reserve Character with any Front Line Character. OR Discard this card to Draw any 1 card playable by Magik from the Power Pack. May be a duplicate.

I've been contemplating combining two weaker or situational mechanics on one card and making them 1 or the other choice when playing the card. Neither of these is a terrible option so i made this one a OPD but if your Reserve is KO by the time you get this card then it would be pretty useless without another feature.


EDIT:
Dani Moonstar. Would have liked to represent her ability to project Psychic Illusions of a persons fears or desires in her Inherent but had no idea how to represent that power. Couldn't find a good enough looking picture to make it as a Special either.

Moonstar may play a level 5 Energy Power card in front of target character, target may not attack Moonstar's team until they attack Power card with an attack > 4.

Moonstar   Animal Rapport   
Shuffle your Power Pack and draw 3 cards from it. May keep duplicates.

Moonstar   Archer   
Acts as a level 5 Fighting attack. May make 1 additional Fighting attack.

Moonstar   Brightwind   
Avoid 1 attack.

Moonstar   Cheyenne Warrior   
Acts as a level 3 Fighting attack. If attack is defended, Moonstar may draw 1 card from top of Draw Pile. Discard duplicates.

Moonstar   Psychic Arrows
Acts as a level 7 Energy attack. If successful, Target character may not attack for remainder of battle.

EDIT: Just decided to go with a CR for the Valkyrie Special.
Moonstar   Valkyrie
Moonstar may switch any two Power cards of equal value on any two of opponent's characters.

Magik's character card looks more like cos-play than art to me.  i like the combining of mechanics - i've done a few with "and" or "if defended", but not with "or".  something new & different to work with.

Moonstar is an OP first for me.  Psychic Illusion could work like an EB special (ala Brood or Nick Fury) if you had art for it.

I'm trying to find a way to put a mechanic like that in Moonstar's Inherent. Something like may play X (level 2 Energy or something) card in front of character, character may not attack until they discard a power card at least 2> X.  I Haven't figured it out yet. I"d like to move her current Inherent over to the New Mutants.

Another new character. I'm pretty happy with the mechanics of her Special cards. I just couldn't find much art that wan't generic pictures of her flying or sitting or a team Excalibur picture. According to the wiki page she could actually be a 7E 7S character probably, but I've never really seen her that way so i kept her at a 6-6 and gave her two above grid specials and a +2 to all actions special.

During discard phase, may swap 1 Power card from Hand with a card of equal or lesser value from Power Pack.

Meggan   Earth Elemental   
Meggan gains a +2 to all actions for remainder of battle.

Meggan   Elemental Blast   
Acts as a level 7 Energy attack.

Meggan   Empathic Broadcast   
Meggan must discard all cards with an Intellect icon currently in Hand. Opponent must discard all cards with an Intellect icon currently Placed and in Hand.

Meggan   Empathic Mirroring    
For remainder of game, if Opponent draws cards during battle, Meggan may draw an equal number from Draw Pile. Meggan must show drawn cards. May not keep duplicates.

Meggan   Metamorph   
Acts as level 6 Intellect attack. If successful, Meggan gains skill levels of target character for remainder of battle.

Meggan   Take To The Skies   
Only attacks made with Universe cards may be played against Meggan for remainder of battle.

Moonstar - looks like you've got the new IA figured out.  you just need to decide on the Power card.  maybe only specify power card of X or less for the discard, or it will limit her usage of it greatly.

Meggan - yes, another OP first (at least for me - i only see cards that people post).  i think you've got a good grid on her.  it may have been a bit more appropriate to swap the mechanics of E & S specials, because her strength gets more of a boost than energy (earth elemental, not fire).  but the art doesn't support that opinion, so forget i mentioned it.  the art you used ain't bad at all.

So if one wanted to make a Genosha location (circa X-Tinction Agenda time) who would you include on it?
Cameron Hodge, Havok, Storm, Wolfsbane probably. Warlock and the New Mutants maybe?

New Mutants seems such a "flavor of the year" sort of designation.  given the 4 you started with, i'd go with Warlock and Rictor, since he took down the city (but i have not seen him done for OP).   your Meltdown would be an acceptable alternative for "Boom-Boom" as they are both Tabitha Smith.  (and i prefer the designation Meltdown to Boom-Boom any day.)

Rictor should be coming so i'll go with that then, Warlock and Rictor.

In the meantime, I"ve been tinkering with my Character Templates to make them match up better to the Original Character cards. When I printed those cards and saw how different they were it really bugged me.

Here is the first more correctly formatted card. I'm going to revisit all the other cards eventually but I've only fixed the X-Men Characters I posted above so far.

Black King: Sebastian Shaw   2   4   6   5   17   
Black King's Energy, Fighting and Strength Power cards are +1 for each different colored icon in his Permanent Record.

Black King   Absorb Damage   
Move all hits from Black King's Hits from Current Battle into Permanent Record. Affects Venture Total.

Black King   Fully Charged   
Acts as a level 8 Strength attack +1 for each hit on Black King's permanent record.

Black King   Hellfire Club   
Acts as a level 3 Fighting attack. Each Front Line teammate may make 1 additional attack.

Black King   Kinetic Absorption   
Avoid 1 attack made with a Strength icon. Black King may draw 1 card from the top of the Draw Pile. Discard duplicates.

Black King   Power Channel   
Remove 1 Hit from Black King's Hits to Current Battle. Black King may make 1 attack with any card, usable by Black King and in Hand, of equal or less Value than removed Hit.

Black King   Shaw Industries   
Draw 3 cards. Discard duplicates.

Power Channel and Kinetic Absorption are direct copies of Maverick's cards, because they are perfectly appropriate. My intention would be that the Chromium Black King from the Marvel vs Wildstorm would not be able to play these specials.

I couldn't really see why he got a 7 Intellect at all so that got changed.

The intent of the Inherent is that only F-E-S-I icons (colored) count for his Inherent, not Any-Power. That way the bonus shouldn't go past +2 because with 3 Icons he would be spectrum KO'd. Since it is only a bonus and not a grid alteration i wonder if I shouldn't make Any-Power icons count. Thoughts?

The Inherent should actually give a little more usefulness to the Absorb Damage card too.

i agree the old 7I was not justified.  having no particular reason for it to be higher, 5I seems just right; a "team leader" stat similar to Cyclops or Storm.
i really like the IA - seems appropriate for him.  i probably would have gone with "in his HCB" instead of "in his PR" because his power is to absorb what happens now, not what happened last time.  but that would require also changing Absorb Damage, Fully Charged, and Power Channel, and would result in a much less effective character.  so, good job again!  (this is the first i've seen OP specials for Sebastian.)
i don't think counting AnyPower (white) as 1 of the icons would be too much.  it just makes him the character you would want to kill off all at once, or go for CKO over time.

edit:  maybe white should NOT count.  hit him with a 4-type MultiPower Power card and he's +4 without being KO'd.

Thanks! I think I will leave Sebastian Shaw as is for now.

Moonstar's first Inherent is more appropriate here I think. Nothing too Special. I tried for the most part to find younger looking pictures of all the characters for their cards.

New Mutants      6   5   4   3   18
Once per battle, New Mutants may draw 1 card from top of Draw Pile when they play a Universe: Training card. Discard duplicates.

New Mutants   Canonball   
Avoid 1 attack.

New Mutants   Karma
Target Character may not attack or play Special cards for remainder of battle.

New Mutants   Magma
Acts as a level 7 Energy attack. If successful, target hero must immediately discard 1 placed card.

New Mutants   Mirage
For remainder of battle, any Special played by New Mutants or New Mutants' teammates may not be Negated until "Mirage" is Negated.

New Mutants   Sunspot
Acts as a level 6 Energy or Strength attack.

New Mutants   Wolfsbane
Acts as a level 2 Fighting attack. May make 2 additional attacks.

Photonicide

I like the IA. It's one of the rules I play with for all characters. Makes some of those universe cards actually playable! It hurts on the inside when you draw a duplicate  :'(

Yeah, the training and basic universe cards were so cool when opening the Original Overpower set. I like to try to make them usable. House rules help too!

One more. I ended up with an odd bundle of Specials with him. Definitely works better with Magneto and the Acolytes.

Exodus      8   5   4   3   20
May be included on a team with Avalon as a Homebase.

Exodus   Crusader
Acts as a level 3 Intellect attack, +1 for each Mission card in opponent's Completed Missions Pile.

Exodus   Hand Of Magnus
Magneto's "Evil Genius" and "Mutant Savior" and The Acolytes' "Exodus" become Any Character Specials for remainder of game.

Exodus   Mental Games
Acts as a level 4 Energy, Fighting, Strength or Intellect attack. If successful, Exodus may not attack or be attacked for remainder of battle.

Exodus   Mutant Brotherhood
Target Character may follow up a Universe: Teamwork card with any Power card, regardless of Power Type.

Exodus   Psionic Blaze
Acts as a level 8 Energy, Fighting, Strength or Intellect attack.

Exodus   TK Shield
Avoid 1 attack.
