Quotethey'll probably be different in another 3 to 5 years.
Too true! I really like him in the Avenger's Time Runs Out story. He's one of those kids from the 90's comics that really stepped up to become a player. Like Nova, who was always one of my absolute favorites. His run from Annihilation through the Thanos Imperative  is probably my favorite comic story ever.

Now's your chance to see some Sunspot Specials. Nothing spectacular here. I really wanted to have him as an option to play but just couldn't make him feel special. He is influenced some by his more current appearances. Yes i made the FG of Da Costa Industries a little better so it is worth playing.

Sunspot   Da Costa Industries
Acts as a level 3 Intellect attack. If not successful, Opponent is -3 to Venture Total.

Sunspot   Flying Fight
Opponent must discard all placed Universe cards, and is -3 to Venture total.

Sunspot   New Mutant
Target Character may follow up a Universe: Teamwork card with any Power card, regardless of Power Type.

Sunspot   Solar Absorption
Discard all cards not usable by Sunspot from hand. Replace with same number of cards from Draw Pile. May keep duplicates.

Sunspot   Solar Blast
Acts as a level 7 Energy attack.

Sunspot   Solar Powered Hero
Acts as a level 9 Energy or Strength attack.

EDIT
Thanks. Fixed the links.

Funny how ideas go. I spent hours just trying to come up with ideas for sunspot's specials. In a half an hour I just drafted up 5 cards and Wolfsbane's Character card. Should have most of them up tonight.

justa

the last 3 links are messed up.

Fixed Sunspots cards.

Finished Wolfsbane. Pretty happy with her cards. Tinkered with the functions of the NZ and OB Specials a bit.

Wolfsbane      2   6   5   3   16
May remove 1 hit of 4 or less from Permanent Record when "Shift Form" is played. May be included on a team with Fall's Edge Compound as a Homebase.

Wolfsbane   Agressive Attack
Acts as a level 5 Any-Power attack. Wolfsbane may make 1 additional Power card attack for every card in Wolfsbane's Defeated Missions Pile. Opponent may defend.

Wolfsbane   Animal Reflexes
Avoid 1 attack. Wolfsbane may make 1 attack with any card, usable by Wolfsbane and in Hand, of equal or less Value than avoided attack.

Wolfsbane   Grimfang
Acts as a level 7 Energy, Fighting, Strength or Intellect attack.

Wolfsbane   Shift Form
Wolfsbane may not attack or be attacked for remainder of battle.

Wolfsbane   Tracking Senses
Acts as a level 5 Intellect attack. If successful, Wolfsbane may sort through Draw Pile, select any Wolfsbane Special card and play it immediately. Reshuffle Draw Pile.

Wolfsbane   X-Factor Investigations
Opponent must immediately reveal any Special cards currently held in his hand.

justa

Sunspot is OK.  after all, they can't all be "special".   ;)

i like your version of Wolfsbane much more than the old (very old) version i found.  (13 total points, no 6 in grid, no codes on specials, 2 specials level 6 +2 additional attacks).  some comments (NOT intended to get you to change anything, justa my opinions):  the first part of the IA could have gone on Shift Form itself;  i'm not a big fan of the 7 Multi attack, but it seems to be well appropriate for her; and i've found cards like X-Factor Investigations to be pretty useless.  but all in all, i think she'll be usable.

That's a good point about the inherent. It would make for a more useful FA, it even works as a general theme for the mechanics, not just with Wolfsbane. Kind of a battlefield first aid card.  If i can come up with something else i want to use for her Inherent i might change it over.
I like throwing in one of the AJ Specials as long as they are the kind that "reveal all Special cards". I'll often place them til the right time.

Finally, Random Special cards. I need a better scan of the comic panel that Protoplasmic Physiology came from but this was the best I could do for now.

Random   Bio-Cannon
Acts as a level 6 Energy or Strength attack.

Random   Bounty Hunter
Acts as a level 4 Intellect attack. If Target Character is KO'd by this Hit, Random may move 1 Mission card from the Defeated Pile to the Completed Pile.

Random   Mass Increase
Random gains a +2 to all actions for remainder of battle.

Random   Protoplasmic Physiology
Remove 1 Hit from Random's Permanent Record or Hits from Current Battle.

Random   Random Counter
Negates the effect of any 1 Special card played by opponent against Random only.

Random   Self Promotion
Add 3 to Venture Total for this battle, +1 for each Mission in your Completed Missions Pile if your Mission is "Fatal Attractions".

justa

nice.
too bad a team of Magneto, Acolytes, Exodus, & Random isn't legal.  another team Colossus doesn't fit in grid-wise.

fennshysa

Random would make a nice Brotherhood addition. I am thinking that might be too much avoiding/healing power when combined with Random's Inherent ability.  Maybe if I make the Inherent may avoid 1 attack made with a Special card.

justa

whichever - i like him with the avoid/heal theme.  it makes him a little different.

Currently putting together a set of Specials for Sage. In addition to her computer like mind, one of her abilities i learned from wiki was a 'genetic jumpstart'. She could see the X-Factor gene and unleash latent powers. Immediately the HX Special (teams Specials +1 for RoB) sprang to mind, especially since I was making her as a Reserve Character anyway. I had a few extra ideas however and wanted thoughts on how these would function as Specials not just for Sage but in general.

1. HX version where 1 character's Specials are +1 for RoG.
2. Non OPD grid altering Special "Target character's grid of 5 or 6 increases by 1 for RoG."
3. More powerful, non OPD grid altering Special "Adds 1 to target characters grid for RoG."

Unlike Absorbing Man's special no Universe cards needed so 2 and 3 could have negative effect of -2 to KO or something.

justa

thoughts.....

#1.  seems like it would need to be OPD like legacy HX (Kingpin's Crime Magnate), which doesn't seem to be what you are looking for.  maybe making it 1 character ROG might knock it down to non-OPD territory, with the added restriction below.

#2&3.  maybe start with legacy JO (Baron Mordo's Bargain Lifeforce).  that's already non-OPD and ROG, and moving it from (SELF) to Teammate shouldn't affect that.  then you need to balance out the +1 gain in one power type with the penalty to something more reasonable, recognizing the fact that indiscriminately increasing a power type to 7 ROG (AY) is considered OPD.  what you suggested for #2 might be too hard to use, limiting it to only types of 5 or 6.  legacy FF (X-Man's Sinister Creation) is another possible starting point, but its a bonus ROB, not a ROG grid increase.  but its food for thought.  my question would be who takes the hits to KO penalty?  Sage or Target Teammate?

added restriction - if you do make it ROG and non-OPD, you should probably have a restriction on playing more than 1 on a single character.  once Sage "opens them up" so to speak, they are what they are; she can't to it again to the same character.

hope something in here proves to be of some help.

I decided to go with the  number 1 option as a OPD. She is my Marvel Oracle character but a bit more reasonable. Some of the art is a bit 'posey' but couldn't be helped.

Sage      5   6   2   7   20

Sage   Combat Analysis
Acts as a level 4 Intellect attack, may be played from Reserve. If successful, Sage may continue to attack while in Reserve.

Sage   Genetic Jumpstart
Target Character is +1 to all numeric Special cards for remainder of game. Bonus not applied to damage or Venture total. May be played from Reserve.

Sage   Information Control
Opponent must discard 1 Placed card of Sage's choice. May be played from Reserve.

Sage   Pinpoint Weakness
Acts as a level 5 Intellect attack. If successful, Target Character loses Inherent Ability and is considered to have no Inherent Ability for remainder of battle.

Sage   Probability Assessment
Look at top 8 cards of Opponent's Draw Pile and choose any 4 cards. Reshuffle Draw Pile. Put four chosen cards on top of Draw Pile.

Sage   Undercover Operative
Sort through opponent's Draw Pile. Choose any 1 card and remove it from the game. Reshuffle the Draw Pile.

An unrelated location.
Astral Plane
Dr Strange
Jean Grey
Onslaught
Professor X
Shadow King
White Queen
Strength Power Card attacks by both teams count only half (rounded down) to Venture Total.

Almost any team on here can be made within grid point totals so I went with this Inherent as its beneficial and slightly hurtful curbing you a bit if you build the overgrid team with JG: Dark Phoenix and Onslaught.  Plus it's quite thematic.

justa

Sage - i've seen 2 character cards for her, but no Specials before this.  your 6F and total grid are the highest i've seen for her.  your array of Specials is quite nice for her, and i absolutely love the Reserve capability.

Astral Plane - the word "count" appears twice in the IA.  i suggest replacing the first "count" with "by both teams" to clarify your stated intent.

I went in to her design thinking she would be a 3-3-3-7 from what i remembered from reading some X-Treme X-Men issues. Wiki said she is a telepath trained by Xavier and her mind/memory allows her abilities like Taskmaster so that's where i got the 5-6-2-7 grid from.

Thanks for catching that crappy wording and mistype on Astral Plane. I fixed it like you suggested and updated the link.

One more that would have fit better in the Villain set.

Splintered Realms
Amanda Sefton
Dormammu
Goblin Queen
Magik
Mephisto
Nightmare
Splintered Realms Team may not play Teamwork cards.

EDIT: Added...

The Future
Ahab
Bishop
Cable
Nimrod
Phoenix
Stryfe
The Future team may not draw cards to replace played Events.

Astral Plane   Metaphysical Combat
Play during battle. At end of battle, no Hits with a Strength icon are added to any Character's Permanent Record. Discard at end of battle. Does not affect Venture total.

I wanted the Aspect for the lighthouse to be Widget but I just couldn't find a good enough piece of art
Excalibur's Lighthouse   Roma
Remove all Hits from any of Excalibur's Lighthouse's Front Line Character's Permanent Record and Current Battle, and switch places with the Excalibur's Lighthouse's Reserve.

Help!!
Genosha, I need a positive Inherent that works thematically but I'm drawing a blank. With Warlock and Bloodstorm you could build a slightly overgird team but that is the only way.

Here is the lineup:
Genosha
Cameron Hodge
Havok
Rictor
Storm
Warlock
Wolfsbane

justa

sorry fennshysa.  i've got nothing off the top of my head for Genosha.  (location IAs are hard for me.)  but i'll keep thinking about it.
looks like there will be a few more characters coming.  i've never seen Amanda Sefton, Ahab, or Rictor done for the game.  i've only seen character cards for Nimrod & Cameron Hodge.  Dormammu has a character card & 3 Specials in the Emporium, plus i've seen a few character cards for him that play other specials (1 Baron Mordu, 1 the Baron & Dr Strange non-OPDs).  i'm looking forward to seeing your versions.
