I doubt that this was ever actually printed, but if it was it would be perfect for this thread. It has an ISBN number...

The choice word of will says to me this book/guide was never published.

The same design showed up in a promotional piece aimed at retailers. I'm not sure whether this was an actual proposed design or simply something slapped together because the actual design was not complete.

And one last promo piece I have, this was a 1-sided promo that you've probably already seen in number of different formats.

OverPower had numerous promo cards in magazines but I can only think of a few times that OverPower was the cover story. Wizard 50 is an odd case because the Todd McFarlane art was the same as that used in Wizard 1 back in 1991 - just recolored and cropped closer. This art was then used for the Web-Headed Wizard card. Since OverPower wasn't even mentioned on the cover it was hardly a great promo but we did get a cool card out of it.

Anybody remember any more? Back in the day there were a number of magazines that might have CCG articles or promos - Inquest, Scrye, Wizard, Combo, Ventura...

Okay, the final part of my Friday trilogy. Here are photographs of the two OverPower folders I have. The inside is identical in both so I just included one picture. These are very cool items and are more than just a folded sheet of card since the die cut cards on the inside hold your papers. The addition of the thumbs from the Hulk and Spiderman are fun. I already posted scans of some of these cards - this is where the hero cards with the 'Hits to Knock Out' bell icon on come from. Also notice how the power and universe cards are an older design.

I think the special "JLA Edition" of Wizard at least mentioned Overpower on the cover, which was probably about as rare as Overpower getting a lead cover story. It was the one that came with the 6 anypower, but I guess they ran out of them or something since you could also just get a random card from the JLA expansion.

Regarding all the other stuff: those folders are quite cool, and I'm interested in trying to track down a few back issues of those magazines now. Are the articles in them of any interest? All I can really remember are some brief listings of who won an event, or a reworded press release about an expansion set.

That is something they really should have kept.  That would have made balancing certain characters a lot easier.  I guess it didn't really work well in play-testing, but they hadn't come up with half the different card types back then either.

I have received the Tournament Guide from JohnL and will be scanning it in tomorrow (just got a brand spanking new scanner!). Of course, it is outdated and should NOT be used as a final reference.

On a very important note, I have asked the Orange King to send me the big tournament guide that he brought with him to the April meetup. He has it in a binder and I will be scanning it and sharing it as a PDF when it's ready. Also, since I have access to a self-publishing machine at my school (Espresso Book Machine), I will try to 'publish' all (relevant) pages of the guide as a bounded book and ship it to whoever wants a copy, at cost (cost of book printing + shipping to anywhere in the world). Or if you prefer to pick it up at a meeting, you're more than welcome to pay me in person for the cost of the book. I do not plan to make money from this at all, just thought it was a good idea to use the machine.

Is anyone interested?
