For those that have been following my posts about setting up decks for myself and some friends that want to learn to play, I finally got to teach and play one of them last night. I will not go into full detail of round by round results (mainly becuase I don't remember it all) but I thought I'd hit some highlights.

We played 2 games each using a different deck for each game.

First Game:

He had: Joker, Robin, Riddler and Flash in reserve.
I had: X-Babies, Shadowcat (w/no avoids - yeah you heard me), Black Widow, and Cyclops in reserve.

Nothing really exciting to say about this match. It was held mostly as the training and Q&A portion of what we were doing. After learning rules and playstyle he actually had very few questions and caught on quite fast.

Second Game:

He had: Cable (IQ), Deadpool (IQ), Shadow King, and Spider-Woman in Reserve +The Crossing Mission Set
I had: Darkness, Spawn, Holocaust, and Hawkeye in reserve + Seperation Anxiety Mission Set

1st Hand:
2 Events: Rebirth: For each Character KO'd this battle, that Character's Team is +3 to Venture Total.
Symbiotic Samples Taken: Do not discard any duplicates for this battle.

Out the gate, I had a great attack hand, but a horrible defense hand. I thought it was no big deal (since this was his 2nd game ever) so I did not even consider a concede. With his first 2 plays, he put Artifact: Adamantium and Shadow King's Possess Other's on Cable, essentially making a great character a tank. Becuase of the "Do not discard duplicates" he also had 2 of Shadow King's Psi-Screen. Avoid 1 attack with a Special Card, Shadow King may draw one card from top of draw pile. This made things interesting.  Essentially I had no defense for Darkness and he took 3 straight shots (Cables Bionic Eye, Shadow King's Astral Lifeform, then a small Multi) and was killed FIRST HAND. Based on Point totals from attacks, he was up on me by 5 when he was no longer able to attack, so I played my last card "Nemesis" giving him a -3 to his Venture (putting him up 2) then we added the +3 to my Venture becuase of the Rebirth Event (that we never thought would be a first hand benefit) and I won the Venture for that battle by 1 point even though he had a first hand KO of Darkness.

2nd Hand:
I drew another great attack hand, but another horrible defense hand. Essentially - I placed my butt off and conceded  ;D

3rd Hand:
I used the massive load of cards from my hand and placed (total of 15 - 8 in hand, 7 placed - no dups!) and I took out Cable, and ShadowKing and it was pretty much all downhill from that point on.

The final battle came down to Spider-Woman vs Hawkeye and Holocaust (both w/ Zero hits to their permanent or current battle records). It really wasn't fair for him, becuase he hit me with 3 attacks - 1 I used Hawkeyes Avoid 1 Fighting, 2 I let it hit then used Hawkeyes remove 1 from current battle and 3 I let it hit Holocaust and used his Move all hits from Holocaust's Hits from Current Battle into Permanent Record so he never scored a point for Venture.....and I just smacked him in the face with Hawkeye's Avenging Archer for 6 then Holocaust's Death Cannon for 8, and followed those up with a 7 fighting Power card for the win.

All-in-all it was a pretty good time. He did really well and we had a ton of fun, but most of all - I got to play OP for the first time in a long long time!

Yeah, I would love to get him more involved - but right now I'm just lucky I'm getting his interest up. He is currently playing MTG, Redakai, Warhammer, Warmachine, and Malifaux on top of learning OP. He is one of those people that just absolutely love ccgs and cmgs.
