I have tried keeping my Magic cards in binders over the years at various times but it always made deck building so impossible for me, especially sorting by set.  I feel like I would have  similar problem with Overpower if I put them into binders.  It would really help me keep track of what cards I do and do not have for collecting purposes though.

I find that binders allow you to see all the character sets and lets my friends go through all the specials much quicker. I do agree it makes deck building a bit more difficult but it beats laying all the cards out and going through them one by one.

My boxes are filed by set, with Power-Universe cards first, Character cards listed alphabetically, followed by specials for every character, filed Alphabetically by character name, then by code. Sets are filed in order of release.  My binder is similar, save for my character cards in the binder are not filed alphabetically, but by high stat and cost. 3-stat characters, then 4-stat characters.

Example: Jubilee 3-stat is an energy character who costs 10 points. She is my first character.  Next to her is an 11 point energy character who's high stat is also energy, but still a 6 high, followed by 7 high 11's then 8 high 11's (I don't have my binder in front of me, so I don't remember who actually follows Jubilee using this system.)  Dual High Grids are sorted in AFTER all characters with a Single High Grid, and then THEY are followed by Triple High Grid characters.  Beyonder is the final character since he is the only Quad High Grid character, having 4 stats with the potential of 8.

Beyond the character cards are specials listed alphabetically by Character name, then by code, with Locations and Aspects bringing up the rear.  Missions and events are in their own binder.

I used to have them broken by sets, but I would forget specials for characters if they weren't right in front of me...

I guess I am more lax in my filing than most. I have all of my keepers in a binder; alphabetical by character with specials following in order of OPDs followed by the other specials (no worries about the code). All of my universe/power cards are in a long box or two. All of my extras and trades are filing alphabetically in more boxes.

Heroes and specials, and some various promo materials, are sorted alphabetically in binders across three binders.  All of each letter is contained in the same binder, so Magneto is in the same binder with Mystique and the next binder starts with "N" (whoever it is, Neron maybe).  Clones without dedicated specials are at the front followed by Any Character/Hero specials.




Character pages go 3 stat > 4 stat > variants > OPD's > specials, with spaces left for missing hero cards and OPD specials.  Specials themselves have no special sorting aside my making sure the ones with my favorite art are displayed on the main front page as opposed to the back.  An entire hero's set of cards are contained in one binder sleeve.

So, perhaps not the prettiest way to organize, but it reminds of gaps in the collection as I flip through should I feel the desire to fill them.

Everything else is sorted in long boxes.  Power cards are in one, sorted by number and subdivided by type (I think EFSIM).  Universes, doubleshots, and ally cards are in another, probably in the respective #/EFSI divisions.  Homebases, aspects, missions (paired with respective events), and whatever else I'm forgetting are in the final box in that order.

One thing I really loved about OverPower is that it was a sorter's dream.  So many ways to sort your collection, but I found that the "hero and their specials in one binder sleeve" approach seemed to be the most efficient and best looking way to sort those respective cards.  Something about the look just seems...natural.

i know this topic has been dead for a while, but i felt a desire to chime in.......
i actually use 4 different sorting methods for the different aspects of the game.
1) published cards (collector set, 2 promos missing) - in 7 2" binders with ultra-pro pages (NOT sorted by "set" - books are 5 for character & specials (3 Marvel, 1 DC, 1 Image, all alphabetical order), 1 for Missions & Events (by publisher, alphabetical), & 1 for other cards (by publisher, alphabetical).  Clones without dedicated specials are on the pages of the character that they can play specials (e.g. Beta Ray Bill is on Thor's page).  Characters without specials, or play more than 1 character's specials are up front, though some variants are on the base character's page (e.g. Storm Neutralized)
2) published cards (play set, for actually playing games) - in multiple plastic boxes - characters (2 each, with ample specials) sorted alphabetically without regard to publisher, missions & events (same sort), other cards (sorted by card type without regard to publisher).  Same sort to characters as in 1) above.
3) extra published cards (hey, you can only use so many of 1 card in a deck) - 5 large cardboard card boxes - characters & specials and Missions & events sorted alphabetically without regard to publisher, other cards sorted by card type with publisher sub-sort.
4) homemade cards (i've added an inherent ability a few times to make a homemade character playable [mostly teams and amalgam], but i've never created a homemade card myself - i have made a hobby out of collecting other people's work) - in 6 3" binders with ultra-pro pages - 5 for characters & specials (alphabetical order without regard to publisher or creator), 1 for other cards (by card type only).  Same sort to clones/variants as above.  i only keep cards that are "different" from published cards & other homemades (grid, IA, special wording/effect, etc).  a new set of power cards always looks nice, but they don't really add anything to the game.

I have a binder for each set inc promo cards (11 in total). Each have the Character cards and the specials for that set first followed by aditional Specials for Characters from earlier sets, Clones, power, Universe, Location, Aspect, Tactic, Mission, Events and finaly Odditys like miss printed cards.

I think I already responded to this one the first time around, but it's an interesting thread so I'll help keep it alive.

I have eleven binders for the ten sets and the promos. I separate the promos by anything that was not sold in a pack. So misprints like Scarlet Witch or Azrael are in with their respective sets, but Web-Headed Wizard and the placards are with the promos.

The cards in my binders are sorted in the same order as the 'standard' Overpower checklist, with the exception of moving the multipowers to after the standard power cards, rather than before.

Right now they're pretty standard binders. I'd like to upgrade to something nicer, but I've never really found anything I like, and binders are too expensive as it is.

All duplicates are in two 3200 capacity card boxes (although that capacity is for normal trading cards, they hold significantly more OP cards). These are also sorted by set, with cards in the same order as the binders.

I'm debating modifying this somewhat. I just spent three hours last weekend deconstructing some decks I had built back in March, because it took so long to put all of the cards back. I am thinking of creating a separate group of 'playing' cards. Basically a pool of power and universe cards that would be enough to build any type of deck (maybe four of each level and type) so that I don't need to search through each set to get the power cards I need.

Does anyone else do this? How does it work?

I would like to add custom made spines for my folders (hence the other thread I started). Idealy I want the name of the set and the OP logo but I'm not very good with things like that.

I change my sorting method like I change my underwear...

Currently I have it sorted in this fashion:  1 binder for all Character cards sorted alphabetically and separated into 3 stat and 4 stat.  All specials are in 3 binders 1 page per character sorted alphabetically.  I binder for Missions/events, locations, aspects and artifacts.  I binder for power cards, universe cards and tactic cards sorted by set and value.

I keep a separate box with enough power cards and universe cards to build several decks...  I have at least 8 of every power type and value power card (not including a multi 5 sadly) and several of each teamwork and ally that I may need.

But like I said..  this changes often.  My go to method has usually been to sort the characters by company and then have them arranged alphabetically  one page per character and to keep all power cards and universe cards in boxes.

marvel characters a-z with their specials behind them, same for the DC/image box. a misc box with all of the other cards. and another box where i keep 2 active decks.

I have 3 monster binders to hold my master set. All Any heroes in the front. I sort Characters in alphabetical order with their specials in the order of earliest to lastest set. If they have more than 1 card from a set I put the cards from that set in alphabetical order. I have 5-6500ct boxes, 5-4000ct boxes & around 6-1000ct boxes. My boxes are sorted in the same way as my binders. I keep buying and cant seem to part with any! I'm a OverPower hoarder!
