Okay, Jack, so you think you're program searches are so smart? How about telling me which character appeared on the faces of the most Overpower card sets?

It'll have to be some one from Marvel, since they had the most sets. There may be several answers, but I think I actually do know one of them. Also, everyone else is free to play  ;)

Top of my head, Wolverine is printed on more cards then any other Marvel Character, especially if you are counting the back of the card artwork.  :D

Jack

I don't think I have any database entries for who actually appear on cards.

An example would be Danger Room's location. Wolverine appears on the actual card but there's no indication that he's part of the location.

Same with Adam Warlock's Cosmic Alliance from the toys:

Wolverine makes an appearance but there's no way to tell just by the text.

this is exactly what i mean! is there a character whose likeness appears in every marvel set? or nearly every set? if we count "Promos" all as one "set" then i think i have found one.

and i wasn't counting the card backs, but wolvie probably has the most, since he's in a few different promo sets  ;D

Confusion Promo, 6F Promo, 6F Power Card, Crossbow, 8F Power Card, Jubilee - Wolvie Style, Adam Warlock - Cosmic Alliance, at least 5 teamwork cards, 4-5 locations (my count might be off) not to mention his many hero cards, and exclusive specials, which each show him... Even without the backs, Wolvie still get's my vote.  Did anyone actually look/count it out?

well, keep in mind, I'm only talking different sets not different appearances. For example, is Wolverine pictured in every Marvel card set?

Wolverine is in Original (Hero), Power Surge (Special), Mission Control (Event), IQ (Special), Monumental (Ally), X-Men (Alternate Hero), and Promo (numerous), but I can't find him in Classic...

Meanwhile, the person that came to mind for me is definitely pictured in each set. I wonder how many others are in each Marvel set (again, including all Promos as a "set" so any promo would be under that catagory).

EDIT:

So, I just thought of, and confirmed, another that appears in all these sets. So, I've found two so far...
OP, PS, MC, IQ, MN, CL, XM, Promo

er, make that three so far :)

I know Jean Grey and Cyclops are pictured in just about every set, and I think Rogue too.

Rogue is one of the characters I found! I wasn't thinking of it before this, but Cyke and Jean are good too... they seem to be in every set - except I can't find them on any promo cards... also, I can't see Jean on any Classic cards...

Rogue is on OP (hero), PS (Special), MC (AnyHero), IQ (Special), MN (Power Card), CL (DoubleShot), XM (Hero), Promo (Special) MARVELS (Special)

I thought Jean was on a Classic Double-shot or a Teamwork or something.  I might be wrong.  You are clearly correct about Cyke, he's not on any of the promo cards. So Rogue is 1 of 3...  Hmmm... Spider-Man is in most sets, minus X-Men, so he can't be one.  Hmmm....  If you count Avengers I.D. Card as a promo, Nightcrawler has been pictured in close to every marvel set, though I can't think if he was in Monumental...

yes, I'd consider the first Image Inducer as a promo card, since it's not officially part of a set (I think that's what you meant when you said Avenger's I.D.) Nightcrawler is on a Double-Shot from Monumental with Mystique, but I can't find him in Classic anywhere.
And again, about Jean, I can't find her image on any Classic cards, either.

Tying together the Original set with Classic, or X-Men, or a Promo card, is proving to be pretty elusive. It seems there are several of the original characters who have 2 of those 3 last sets, but not all 3...

EDIT:

I did just remember that Jean is on a Promo card, though. The Age Of Apocalypse Event that has no copy right on the bottom was a Promo card. It also lacks the phrase, "Affected Power cards are not discarded." - still no Classic discovery...
so, Cyclops is in every set except "Promo"
and Jean is in every set except Classic

Anyone else?

I did mean Image Inducer.  lol  Thanks for the fix Ncann.  Who were the other 2 you found that fit the bill?  Now I'm really curious.  I would guess Spider-Man, but I don't think he made an appearance in the X-Men set.

I don't think Spider-Man made an appearance in XM either, which puts him with Cyke and Jean in the "Almost" catagory.

I'll give this clue: So far, the only 3 I've found are from The X-Men (Rogue and 2 others). I'm trying to go through now and see if I can make something difinitive about this. It might very well be just the 3.

EDIT:

So, I went through the Mission Control set because it's the smallest. So, I figured, if I could check through everyone that has an appearance somewhere in that set and just do a cross-reference with MN/CL/XM sets, I'd narrow it pretty quickly.

I found several other characters that came oh-so-close, but still no more than my original 3 characters.

Some other notables:
name:             set missing:
Cyclops         - Promo (if you count Lil'Cyclops)
Hulk              - XM
Jean Grey     - CL
Nightcrawler - CL
ProfessorX    - MN
Spider-Man   - XM
Wolverine     - CL

But, the three I found appear somehwere in all Marvel Sets

storm is one of them i think

EDIT:

gambit must be one, as you didn't mention him.  i found him in all but classic, but i'm guessing he's there

also, galactus turns up in quite a few (including the hard x-men set), but i couldn't find him in power surge, so i stopped looking

Storm is one of the three!! good job there.

I wish Gambit was the third, but alas, he's never third  >:( (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Summers_brother)

Anywho- the third character has a tricky CL inclusion. Like Gambit, this last character has a pretty obvious appearance in every set - except Classic. In fact, this last one is very tricky, as the appearance is actaully not of the character, exactly, but of their image within the card image...   ;)
