Hey guys, wondering if any of you guys were interested in getting it professionally done? We could use the same commissioned artists and graphics designers who did the Power Balance expansion to do the work. Sure, there would be a small fee involved, but wouldn't it be worth it to get really nice looking cards? Let me know!

Hey Bread, do you have ALL of the suggestions saved together in a file somewhere?

In the meantime, here's one I thought would be good for Taskmaster:

Taskmaster - Grand Scheme: Remove any cards from Taskmaster's draw pile and discard into the dead pile.

TGW

I like that Taskmaster special a lot. Fits his character, imo.

I'd probably like to inquire about getting the borders done for us. The artwork will be mostly sourced from comic books though I think there might be some characters that could use commissioned art if we can't find the right image.

TGW

Did we decide if we are including any 'new' characters like Thanos or Dormammu? I think it'd be cool if we added two new characters like The Marvels set did. If Thanos were used, perhaps we could incorporate his special that JohnL posted in one of the older threads.

I know location characters have been discussed and if artwork is commissioned, I'd encourage the group to use the Powerbalance characters and their single special and just add three or four more specials to flesh out each character. This might allow for allocation of funds/resources to the new specials or any new characters.

Jack, having borders done, and commissioned artwork just for character cards would be a good idea. The borders are used for every card, so you want them to be good. And with regard to character cards, there just aren't any image out there that fit the necessary style. I'd agree that specials could just make use of comic book covers, let's pick ones with the right style as well. Get in touch with me, and I can have a word with the necessary parties.

TGW, yeah, I'd certainly be happy for the community to make use the location character cards from Power Balance - will really feel like the hard work I've put in had benefit for you guys. Just forget the rules, if people want to play the standard OverPower. But yeah, as TGW said, if I can just cover costs of production, I'd be happy to expand on specials for these characters, and make them to fit the community's deemed requirements for each character to achieve balance. The cards would be made to live up to the same high standards as with the first version of Power Balance.

can anyone mock up a simple one using the gradient jack mentioned, but with a dark backround?  lighter gray like the onslaught expansion, or even a lighter brown like mission control could work

Jack

Character cards would indeed benefit from commissioned art, I had a tough time finding ones for Angel and Wasp for The Marvels we did but I think we did okay with our selection.

Our images sources will be mostly anything from comic books -- not just the covers. It does revive a common complaint that customers had about the X-Men expansion (recycled artwork) but going for a new expansion would be quite costly if everything was commissioned.

As for the idea for the border, I'm still trying to think of what evil looks like.

With regard to the border, did you guys happen to notice a pattern that the creators of OverPower were going for? Towards the last two expansions, each category of cards was colour coded, which is something I incorporated into Power Balance. Specials were yellow, Artifacts were red, DoubleShots were purple, Ally cards were blue, Aspect cards were Green. It was a clever attempt at finally having some degree of continuity. Perhaps our next expansion should follow in the same footsteps as the intentions set out by the original OverPower cast?

Thoughts?

We did take notice of the yellowness of the Special cards, not just in the last few expansions but all of them didn't deviate too far from the yellow tone. That's why I wanted to stick to an orange, orange-red type colour for the AE set but likely staying away from red because it would conflict with Artifact cards.

Optimally, the easiest solution would be to use a yellow and have the set's logo diagonally patterned as you've done with your set. While I don't want to dismiss the idea (it's probably on par with a gradient), I want to deliver a quality product and go for a textured or non-edge border similar to how Image, Classic and Onslaught Specials are.

I've been thinking about this for some time and I think I agree that if red is used on the special cards, it should be kept to a minimum.

I think Jack is right about using the set's logo and I've also been having a bit of a think about that too. Below is a list of things that could be used as the logo:

Skull
Skull and cross bones
Skull with dagger impaled in the top
Pentagram
Pentagram with goats head in the middle
Blood drops
Blood splatter
Blood smear
Death

good news!

bios will be lending his talents to the artistic portion of the design, so keep those images coming folks!

Skull is simple and effective enough.  Just casting a vote.

This is a border that I made a while ago. We already had a brick wall (monumental) and stones (onslaugh). This one is more like a stone wall... like a dungeon!
What do you think?
