Yes, anything goes. I'm even willing to accept hand drawn images if you're a talented artist. Preferably modern artwork since I really had to dig deep into Marvel Comics archives to find some characters.

I can start looking for X-Men related images once the card names have been finalized as I don't fancy looking for images that don't match the text.

Bullio

What immediately came to mind for the Onslaught special, from Onslaught Unleashed #2 (large top panel).

Nothing immediately comes to mind for the rest, but I'd be happy to go image hunting once the list is finalized.  I certainly have enough comics to look through.

i like it...again it will have the red backround/red border clash...hmm

jack, do you have a version of what the card border and text will look like?

I haven't had time to mock one up, been busy adding content into the Wiki this week. I'll see if I have time tonight or this weekend to come up with one.

The one idea that keeps popping up in my mind is having the bottom-left area of the border start dripping blood, though I'm not quite sure if that's how I see "evil". Maybe skulls/crossbones tiled?

We should do purple/violet, it is the opposite of gold/yellow on the color spectrum.

I quite like the yellow on the specials but I also like Jacks dripping blood idea. What about the dripping blood over the yellow border. Lots of red at the top with blood running down the side part of the border.

eh, I don't really like the idea of drastically messing with the general aesthetic of the game's card design, which a disruption like that would cause.  Keep the solid borders like every other set and use a subtle pattern in the border like the X's in the X-Men expansion if you want to get creative with the design.  Maybe have a black border with small red blood drops randomly scattered about, or dark red border with lighter red drops, if you're feeling insistent on using that motif.  Though I think that's a little cliched, honestly.  Would rather see a more subtle, ominous tone portrayed through border design (could do something with the inner art border sort of like the Onslaught and Classic sets did) and smart art selection (though I realize the latter could prove difficult) if at all possible.

I generally agree with this. I'd be hesitant to go with a border that strays too far from a yellow tone, because you start crossing into what could/should be a color set aside for a different type of card. For example, if you went with a red tone, isn't that a little too much like a Tactic card? While there are a few other primary colors that haven't really been used in OP (Blue, Purple, Orange), it would bother me a little to introduce a new color for an existing card type.

Then again, I'm very passively interested in the final outcome of this set. I'm sure I'll use some of the cards that are for part-time x-baddies (Juggernaut, Magneto, Morlocks, etc), but that'll be sparse, relatively speaking  ;)

I think a special card is defined by the character's name on the card for the most part.  Different color borders might be a little weird, but Mission Control is brown compared to IQ and Original OverPower.  Not much of an issue.  I think whatever the majority goes for will be okay.

I agree that straying away from the general color tone would make it seem less like an OP special. Certain colors read instantly in our minds when looking at the cards played. I already hate it when somebody plays a card and than wants to take it back because they didnt see a certain card on the table. I think a completely different color would make this happen more often. Having said that, I still need 4 sets of whatever is made! :o

Jack

The closest I can probably do to stick within the yellow theme would be flames (which would in fact be orange and similar to our Marvels set). It would be using a textured border similar to that of Onslaught and Monunental so hopefully we won't run into issues with text visibility. Not sure if I have time to mock one up tonight, school is keeping me quite busy.
