Has anyone on here played Dice Masters? If so, is it good? How does it compare to Overpower?

i would also like to know the answer to this question as I recently picked up a starter pack and would like to know if I should take the time to learn the game which look complicated from the think instruction guide...lol.

I picked up a starter set and a few booster packs today. I'll let you know how it goes!

To me, it's way too complicated for what I hoped was a simple dice game I could play between rounds of Legendary. It's neat to have little collectibles, but for now, that's the only use I have for it.

Vs. is being relaunched next summer, if anyone's still interested in that.

no man, we lost overpower to recharge....the worst game ever...lol.

Vs. isn't that bad actually, i played and collected for a couple years, got to the green lantern corps set and stopped due to getting back into video games at that time.  It fizzled off a couple sets later though. I still have all my very rare cards still like savage beatdown and fizzle...i wonder if their worth anything if they've been reprinted and there are stronger cards now.

I'm always on the fringes of Vs., but it's my understanding that a lot of the early cards, especially Beatdown, are still very powerful and sought after. Fizzle might have gotten an erratum that weakened it, though.

That's another game that seems more complicated than it's worth, but I've put more effort into wrapping my head around it with the relaunch imminent, and I think I've got a better understanding now. Nu-Vs. is going to be in the style of of a living card game, so it'll be easier (and hopefully cheaper) to have what you need to effectively play.

I don't remember ReCharge popping up until 2003. Wasn't OverPower already a few years in the ground by then?

My heart just sank into my stomach hearing that VS was being rebooted, but Marvel wasn't willing to reboot Overpower because they believed it posed too much competition with the other projects they had lined up - chiefly Legendary.

Can you post a link to the announcement/news release of the VS relaunch?  I'd be interested to know when that decision was made.

From the standpoint of game design, I think VS stinks - just throwing that out there.

Did you hear this from someone official or are you speculating? If Vs. isn't competition for Legendary, I don't understand how OverPower would be.

Upper Deck announced the relaunch at GenCon this year. Well, they put a bunch of old cards in a box and sold them off as a "Preview" set, to see what interest was like. Apparently it was high enough that they claim they'll have something for a GenCon release next year.

This was direct from Marvel in February.

Do you have a link to that? I follow Marvel game stuff pretty closely but somehow missed that one.

It was via email.

To give some context, we spoke about the royalty/license requirements, and how it would be bad business to turn around and offer a competitive license to someone other than Upper Deck, without changing UD's required minimums, since the market for CCGs is so narrow (not like t-shirt companies or toy companies).

I was talking to my wife about this, and it dawned on me that if UD is doing Vs. and Legendary - they're probably able to spread the minimum between the two properties.

hope that helps.

It's a real shame...it looks like any hope of seeing Overpower back on store shelves is at least 5 years away.

I must admit, I've been slightly down since hearing this news last week.

I'll always have a soft spot for OverPower, it being the only Marvel card game through my teenage years, but I maintain a reboot would have to drastically overhaul it to be relevant. It's crazy to me that half the cards (Basic universe, doubleshot, etc.) are all but useless. There's no sense of progression, as you can play a level 8 power card on turn 1, if you're so lucky. And yeah, Battlesites were probably a bad idea.

Unpopular thoughts, to be sure! I'd love to see OP come back, but only if it's better than it was.
