I'd LOVE to have a full scan of that tournament guide. I think that the specials guide would be something that would answer most card code questions.

If I ever get a working scanner again I'll do that but the specials guide was no different to the versions that are on the Web. It's just that not everyone had a laptop back then so having a paper copy was more convenient. Actually I do have a spare copy so if YOU want to scan it in and make it available to everyone it's yours. Send me a message or an e-mail with your mailing address.

I'm just curious as to what's actually in the guide. If it's anything like:

I would love to have a complete copy as I haven't been able to find the last part of it.

The only Overpower promo cards I ever had came from breakfast cereal and they were just a few cards from the original set.  I remember they came pack three and had cards like Prof X's and Magneto's AF specials.  I don't think there was anything about them that differentiated them from the actual cards in the packs though.

I was able to dig up the comic books that had the 5 Any Hero promos, all sealed. I wasn't able to find ANY of the comics with the Onslaughts promos.

I also have sealed copies of magazines with Web Headed Wizard Any Hero, Wolverine Confusion, Captain Universe, Warlock and AoA promo.

Is it just me, or does this guide say that CM-coded specials can be played defensively? ???

My friend who got me into Overpower was also a comic collector at the time so he had all these great cards and used to lord them over me.  Then I got a box of Mission Control for my birthday and all of a sudden I had the Any Heroes!  I never got a Warlock or Captain Universe until years later.  Also, what is the AoA promo?

That would be strange.

I wouldn't use that as an official guide, I just copy and pasted it without knowing how new/old it is relative to our current metas.

The AoA promo was just a pre-release of events.

Thanks Jack.

Also, that Promo EVENT is recognizable as it doesn't have copyright info on the bottom.

I still need to get my hands on the Infestation Incident one in a sealed bag.

Palatinus

It would be so fun to have this stuff coming out now.  I really think that if Overpower could have held on just a little bit longer it would have been really bolstered by the increasing use of the internet.

JohnL

I snagged these from GDMJr's site. I was never hugely into these but the comparison makes the differences very clear. Jack already posted the printing errors/oddities in a different thread. These are the misprints/variants:

Does anyone know the whereabouts of GDMJr these days?  If someone has his contact info, maybe he would like to visit this forum.

Yes, It looks like the online specials guide is exactly similar to the one included in the "Tournament Guide". There are a few other pages included in the tournament guide, but they are almost all well-known rules.

without looking at the online guide... my tournament guide copy says....

CM - (Both) This Special affects the attack or defense of your opponent's team. It does not affect the damage of their attacks, only what the Charatcter defending from those attacks needs in order to block the attack. Likewise, it does not effect the intensity of your attacks, only what the opponent needs to block those attacks. For example, with this Special in effect, your opponent would need a level 5 or greater defense in order to block a level 4 attack. Conversely, you would only need a level 4 or greater defense in order to block a level 5 attack. This special does not effect the Power Grids of the Characters, and does not affect specials that do not have an attack or defense value.

Hope that helps.

QuoteCM - Play this Special during battle on either your turn during your attack or alone without an attack, or your opponent's turn during your opponent's attack. Pretty much the same, though CM shouldn't be played defensively.

I'm guessing the copy of the guide I found was up to the Powersurge set. The latest code used for Powersurge was DS.

Fun fact: Latest code used by each set:
Original - BP
PowerSurge - DS
Mission Control - EL (Though, Hawkeye's AA was recoded as GJ)
Batman Superman - FC
Onslaught - GL
IQ - IG
JLA - JN
Monumental - LQ (Well, there's ZZ too, but that was just silly of them)
Classic - LT
Image - NF
X-Men - OD
