If HQs weren't errated to OPDs

So up until a this week I had not read the errata becuase I had difficulty getting it open (Thanks to Jack for passing it on to me) and I had an outstanding HQ team constructed. Even though HQs are now considered OPDs my friend that I just taught to play wants me to use my HQ team against him in at least one of our games next week and see if it works out as well playtesting as it looks on paper.

I just wanted to know what you guys thought about this:

Hazard
Mr. Fantastic (IQ)
Shadowcat
Kingpin - reserve

*All starters with a minimum of 3 HQs. The concept is that even if you have duplicates to discard you should be able to redraw enough in each hand that you can either overpower your opponent or cause him to concede - I'm sure this is one reason that the HQs were put to a OPD. Oh well, playtesting will be next week!

A few of us actually (supposedly) met the person who forced the big wigs at OverPower to make HQ's OPD. We met him last June during our meetup by chance at our venue, his name is Jason (he played a very mean all 8S deck against BBH's trick-or-treaters).

From what I can remember, he said he exploited the heck out of the non-OPD-ness of the card and made a similar deck to the above and brought it to a tournament. By the first battle, he had taken out an opponent's front line and still had more cards (and more HQ's) waiting. This was all done just after IQ was released and they "temporarily" made it OPD until they got a better game mechanic for it -- it never happened.

I figured it could potentially be an easy victory - but I never even considered the possibilty of a domination like that.

I do wish they would have finished out the 'mechanic' for it however. I dont think having just one character with a non OPD HQ is too dominant of a force.

i like that team regardless

as in even with just 1 HQ each? Honestly I hadn't even thought about just going that route, lol. I may need to though.

this game isnt suppose to be easy :)

true true true - and i think that is one of the good things about it

Now don't get me wrong, I was dissappointed when I read that the HQs were supposed to be OPDs but I was always a little glad-ish  ::) I know other games that I've played like MTG have a series of cards that when you put them together are flat out 'broken' and can make it impossible and completely not fun for your opponent to even play (I've been on both sides of this). I do think, love 'em or hate 'em, that most of the eratta are good because they bring that small piece of balance for the cards that could be exploited (like the HQ that I want to exploit  :D).

Don't forget that this was an era that only had 3 AO specials around (Mojo, Beast, Scarlet Witch) so there really wasn't much of a counter to this type of deck. There were only 3 character with HQ at the time too.

That's true. I did consider ensuring that he had at a minimum 1 good AO character + AC Bastion if I run this deck to attempt a tiny bit of balance.

why put kingpin in reserve

i think hazard should be there

his only 2 good specials

I agree about Hazard with his 2 specials and I had considered it, but I prefer Kingpin for his Inherent and his HX special. They just give him that little something extra from the bench - but I may test both ways and see how it turns out.

im sure it will be full of glory

Probably not. I have spent most of my trade time focusing on getting cards that I needed, not extras of character cards for activators. That's one of the reasons I havent done much with battlesites yet - most of the activators would need to be proxys  :P
